Symphony Head Unit Removal

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Wonder whether you could shed some light on this? I recently bought a head unit removal tool (shown in the picture below) direct from Skoda for the Symphony head unit in my Octy vrs. I'm planning to a get Connects2 Ipod connector put in but I can't get the head unit out using the tool. The part number of the tool is T10057. There were four identical ones in the pack.

Am I missing a trick here or some special technique or have Skoda just given me the the wrong tool?! Only the very end of the tool actually fits into the removel slots, the rest of the tool is too wide.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

T1008 IIRC is the one that I have for the Skoda units.

It isn't difficult to remove them and I think the tool you have will work but there is a knack. Push the tools in until you feel them grip into the latch, don't push them right in. Sometimes you'll need to gently lever out the HU.

i tried the 'correct' tool for VAG cars from halfords which had a similar profile to the one you have, and it was too wide. so i tried all the ones halfords had to offer before i bought!

turns out the removal tool for a Kenwood unit works a treat! the others were all too wide.

I bought a couple of stereo keys off ebay for my Fabia symphony single cd player and they were way too wide for the slots ! I just kept filing them down until they fit, ended up 5-6mm wide and went straight in and out poped the HU.

You may also want to lift the keys up a little when they engage so that the little indentation can grip and allow you to pull the HU out. If that fails, try popping out a blanking plate or two from above it!

I snapped a hacksaw blade in half, grips well and pulls out.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I went to Halfords in the end and picked up a Kenwood HU removal tool. Works a treat and cost a less than the official skoda ones.

I really find it hard to believe that Skoda don't have the correct tools for the job!

I'm trying to remove my Symphony unit from my Fabia VRS. Going to pop down Halfords later to buy the removal keys. Exactly which ones will I need? I've noticed that on their website they sell 2 types of Kenwood tool. :confuse:

Can't you get to a dealer? They'll usually do it for free...

Kenwood ones used today and the sterio was out in about 10 seconds! I tried the 'correct' tool for VAG cars from Halfords yesterday and it was useless. Thanks for the good advice.

just done this using the metal clip off the outside of an old mechanical pencil - worked first time and much cheaper than halfrauds!
