"Sound System" and doorcards at the dealer

Hi

I think a managed to make them accept the fact that the "Sound System" and the normal doorcards are not matched with each other and is there by a factory error.

With that in mind they are to repair this error, but what should they do?

I would be more satisfied with skoda if they sent it to an caraudio specialist to fix it, but i guess i will have to manage with the mechanics.

Does any have a proven way of fixing the issue with rattling doorcards that i can relay to the skoda dealer?

There are many owners with the same problem. My supplying dealer suggested replacing the speakers as a solution. I declined since the problem is to do with the door card vibrating during certain bass frequencies and not the units themselves. there has been talk on the forum about a "fix" being issued by Skoda to the dealers but it has gone quiet on that front meantime. A good car audio specialist should have a way to prevent the resonances but who is prepared to be a "pioneer"?

Do the newer MY11(?) models suffer from the same problem?

I get mine delivered in a couple of weeks and I'm intrigued.

I have a MY11 with sound system and I have no problems with vibrating doorcards, and I think that the system sounds better than the upgraded sound in my old Audi A4 MY09.

Shure if you crank up the volume really high things may start vibrating, but you will not hear it because of the high volume. ;)

There are several fixes for problems with vibration/rattling sounds in the sound system in the skoda workshop Information service called erwin. Most problems are due to loose plastic details I think. But maybe this is not the same problems people here are having...

Mine is also MY2011.

Also has a annoying rattle sound which is repeatedly initiated by the Bass speaker.

My car has the 10 speaker Soundsystem.

The dealer where I bought the car, has tried once to eliminate the problem, but not with success.

Friday (18 feb) I have another appointment with another Skoda workshop. I will be there and watch what they do. If any success I will be happy to post here whatever they did. I will be back ...

Hi,

Today I was a the Skoda Workshop.

Indeed there was a Service bulletin on the problem. It has number 2021846/2, dated 20 oct 2010.

They dismantled the whole door. According to the Service bulletin, they had to use a lot of glue and foam material.

But in the end it was a success, so I am happy now - I just wonder how long time there is until one of the other doors will have the same problem ...

I asked them to do the other doors, but from a Service point where Skoda is paying the bill, they are only allowed to repair if a fault is confirmed to be present.

I could see that the service bulletin described 4 problem area's in the door:

1. Wires going to the "Safe-lock" LED.

2. The plastic of the door-card vibrating against the door frame.

3. The metal wires inside the door that lifts the window.

4. Foam on bag of the speaker.

On mine they did 1, 2 and 3 with sealing cord. No 4 was not done. They found some rattling from the doorhandle, which also was solved with sealing cord.

Took 2½ hours for the mechanic to do it.

I now just cross my fingers ... hope I never hear that rattling again.

I'll stand up for Skoda here and say that the sound system in my current Superb (2011 model) is much better than the last Superb hatch I had (which was one of the 1st of the current shape) It's certainly not perfect, but much less vibration. I'm glad I paid for this option (and I'd say so if I wasn't).

Mark.

All of the plastic connectors behind the door card are covered with a piece of foam but I noticed one of the connectors was protruding from the foam jacket.

I'll be checking things very carefully when I fit my speakers. Might invest in some foam sheeting to pack out bits of the door. I already have spray adhesive.

Can you explain what "sealing cord" is please, this might be easier to DIY

Hi, sure.

It's sticky and quite thick. Black in color and you can form it with your fingers to whatever shape you want. The guys in the workshop called it "Butyl-tape". If thats the same in England I can not say. In fact I took a picture with my phone of it in the workshop. See attached. You should be able to see the VW/AUDI/SKODA sparepart number for the "sealing cord" (AKD 497 010 04R10). Hope this helps.
