Ipod to the MDI interface fault.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have just recently purchased a Skoda Rapid Elegance 1.6 Tdi Greentech. I am having problems in connecting the ipod to MDI interface. After plugging the ipod, radio screen showing MDI intializing, then MDI failed.

I have spoken to my local skoda dealer and skoda uk, but no luck.

Has anybody having the same problems, connecting a Ipod to MDI interface, any ideas ?

Same problem here.

The MDI works as I have tried reading music off a USB stick and that is fine (unless they were tracks bought on iTunes)

I understand the problem is that Apple products are fussy about what can read them; with certain iPhones e.t.c. it is possible to get an app to 'jailbreak' them so that they should work.

Bloody annoying as being able to control my ipod from the stereo was a feature I was looking forward to having.

Hoping to find a satisfactory solution and will keep you updated.

Have you tried updating the MDI firmware?

Worth a shot since it costs nothing but a few minutes & a free download.

Kb do you know how to check the mdi firmware version??

Adam

VCDS scan for sure.

Possibly on 'hidden' menu, but not sure.

I upgraded mine and the first one I tried it told me was 'older' than the current one. The second one went through no problem.

I went for 0240 as the one newer than that wasn't for my older MDI.

Oops double post

Thanks mate going to check mine I think

Do they have mdi USB cables now then? Will have to check with dealer if my fabia iPod one fits.

Gent's,

The Rapid MDI interface, is completely different version fitted to the Fabia's. I had it fitted in my last Fabia Scout, no problems at all.

Tried the update, no luck.

That's worth knowing. Thanks.

That means I can't help you though...

I will double check when I go in next week to change cars...

Yes, you need a cable for each application.

To use a USB stick or USB powered hard drive, you need a MDI to USB cable, it has an MDI connector on one end, and a standard USB jack like you get on a laptop on the other.

To use an iPod/iPhone/iPad you need a MDI to iPhone cable , it basically has the MDI connector on one end and a standard iPhone charging connector on the other. in addition, if you want to use an iPad 4 or iPhone 5 then you need the apple convertor.

You can also get MDI to Aux, for devices that only have a headphone socket.

The MDI to USB cable has been available for a number of years.

I have an mdi to iPod from my fabia but the general consensus is I will need a new cable...

This won't work in the Rapid though - it just has a USB-in socket and aux-in.

Yes that should do the trick as the Rapid has the seperate USB/ AUX sockets like you'd normally find in a SEAT rather than the VW/ Skoda MDI

Gent's,

Checkout the following link, thanks to Seat & J400UK

Page 11, to see the cable and price. Worth checkout eBay, from J400UK link.

If someone tries this can you let us know whether it works?

Bump!

Anyone had any luck yet?

Currently got a rapid 1.6 TDI as a courtesy car. What a fabulous car!

Dont want to give it back! lol

Good stuff

Would recommend it.

The actual mileage is more like 5K

Hi s0niX,

You should try Fish Brothers Skoda (Swindon), they're selling Rapids at a good discount. They brought around 10 Rapids, all new stock. Worth giving then a call.

I brought a Rapid 1.6 TDI (105) Elegance Greentech, around £14995, compared to £17995.
