Josh's Forged Big Turbo Build - long term project

Featured Replies

This one is going to take quite a while so don't expect lots of regular updates :p

But anyway, I started this thread mainly for myself and info for others of how much a forged engine build will cost. I'm keen to hear thoughts on decisions/ideas I have so feel free to spam away and get some discussions going :)

This is going to be as close to being on a shoe string budget as possible. I'd like to do some things myself but the important bits will go to the professionals to do. So there'll be no pics of me dremeling the ports out etc!

So far I have...one main block with a crank and oil pump and a pd cylinder head. And a head full of crazy ideas!

No picture of the block, a few will have seen if dumped on the grass at castle Combe though, but here's a picture of the cylinder head...

I believe it's a pd 105 or something, but that's not important as the cam is coming out anyway.

I'm aiming for 300bhp with this project, with no NOS.

There's a serious amount of decisions to be made, clearly I need head work done, porting/polishing, a high lift cam, do I run oversized valves? Do I bore to 2.0?

The likelihood is yes ill bore it to 2.0.

Turbo choice, I think my current plan is a 2260vklr, a water cooled blower.

So my costs currently stand at:

Block - £40

Head - £16 eBay bargain

It's a slippery slope from here I'm afraid!

Interesting, will keep an eye on this dude! Sorry but I can't offer any ideas though as I know naff all about what you're doing in all honesty but may learn something :D

Paint it all red you know it will be good for 300 then.

Will be following this with interest. Any idea what cams you can use?

Darkside sell one along with a company over in Europe mate.

Plan to strip the block and head down over the week or so and have a nose and clean stuff up...playing really lol

Subscribed!

Fancy building two engines? Economies of scale and all that... :giggle:

AFAIK the 2260vklr is a ballbearing turbo normally fitted to the likes of Merc E/S350 CDI's...

Sounds good to me! :D
