Track Tyres

Featured Replies

Ok upto now I have been using R888's on the octy, and they were great until the first warm(ish) trackday I did, where a pair of virtually new R888's became borderline legal lol.

So R888's although they give great grip there too soft for a lardy octy vRS (I had been warned but it was too late as I had already bought them).

I know the Kuhmo v70a's in K90 compound are a favourite on here, but are there any others worth trying ?

I have heard some ok things about Maxsport RB5's, and again also heard ok things about the federal 595 RS-R's, anyone on here had any experience with these ?

Kuhmo all day long ;-)

Kuhmo for me. I used them at Combe, but they struggle to warm up as hard compound, so they are a bit dodgy to start, then come good. :)

The full trackday on 3rd June should see me actually start to get some heat into them.

I'm struggling to find the v70a in K90 compound for sensible money, I can get them in K60 for ok money but not K90 :(

I bought mine used on the rims - The tread doesn't seem to have gone down at all despite one half day trackday, and session at Combe. Hoping the trackday on the 3rd finally wipes them out.

My R888's were like that, I bought 2 used for the rears and 2 new for the fronts.

I did 2 or 3 trackdays (cold days) on them and they were all as good as the day I fitted them.

The monday before the action day I did a full day at combe, and it was warm(ish) that day, and by the end of the day (only did 5 or 6 sessions of which 2 were under 8 mins due to red flags), the fronts were gone on the insides.

I did get them swapped over for the action day, so that the worn tread was on the outside, but there not going to take another full day so need to replace the fronts.

On the plus side the 2 used rears are still good :D

What about Hankook ventus z209's anyone have any experience with those (supposed to be very similar to the Dunlop CR311)

I need tyres for my Fab vRS MK2 as Dunlops nearly fell apart after cool'ish HowFast? session this Saturday at Bedford ...

I can highly recommend Federal 595 RSR's. Ive used many different brand of track tyre now and whilst the federals might not be the best of them all in the dry, they are by far the best in the wet and also the best value for money IMO.

Id say in the dry they are about 90% as good as an R888 trackday tyre, but on a wet day they are MUCH MUCH better than an R888. And they are about £50/corner cheaper and have a higher trearware rating so will also last longer.

Im gutted i never found out about them sooner, as they could have saved me so much money over the years.

What is the best website to buy track tyres from? I looked at Camskill and DeamonTweaks so far.

What prices are good prices for Khumos, Federals and others? I am asking as you've bought quite a few sets along the way :)

I have also been looking at the Federal 595's, they get a good write up and a few have even said they are as good as 888's

I have no experience of either, nor have I driven slicks but on Saturday the Avon ZZ3's performed really well on the Fabia, they had 3mm on them at the start of the day so almost a semi slick!!

Tweeks and or Camskill were good for 595's at about £120 each for 215-40-17"

I would be looking, but my wheels didn't sell :(

I told you at Castle Coombe the Dunplops were poo! Literally made of poo and melt like poo, I know as I had the same issue with Dunplops there.

I am going to keep an eye out for Avon's again, difficult to find part worns but if that is what we need that is what we get.

I will have 595's on the Golf and these should switch back and too on to the Fabtastic.

What wheels are you selling?

Ahem, we noticed :D

They are still on the car as I didn't get around to swapping everything back yet. I did loose a wheel centre though, front right.
