cruise control

Featured Replies

How good is this mod for a vrs octavia 2005?

If you'd use it it's good. Got mine from factory (still a rip off at £180 for a feckin switch) and I use it a lot.

If you're not near motorways or quiet roads it might not be worth doing.

Its fantastic and I wouldn't buy a car without it again. Eyes on the road fulltime and not having to think about speed especially through roadworks is excellent.

Like Mike, got it as standard but rarely use it. Don't think I would bother with if as a retro-fit.

Sarge.

A 2005 vRS would be a MK1 wouldn't it?

Early mk II vRS's came out on the 55 plate.

Having had cruise control on all three vRS's (as standard on the last two) I really miss it on my R. I do a fair bit of motorway driving and I find it really useful. I do 300-400 miles a week in hire cars and they all have it and I always use it.

I use mind on the Motorway when there are speed limits for Roadworks.

I use mine all the time.

If you do most of your miles in town I wouldn't bother. If not, go for it!

I had it retrofitted the other week. People say you don't need it in the UK and granted, the M62 at rush hour isn't the time or place to have it but on a clear run down the M6 and back the other weekend it just made the drive so much more pleasureable. My right foot tends to rest on the 'go' pedal nicely at 80 but its so much more relaxing (and economic) to set the cruise to 70 and do just that, cruise...

France in a few weeks time and I suspect I'll be using it a fair bit then on some nice dead straight autoroutes!

Couldn't live without it.

Oh, and a recommendation for Only Charged Dubs near Doncaster if anyone wants this doing. Loads cheaper than the likes of Awesome, PSI etc.

I retrofited it myself last year but admittedly only use it on the motorway when I get the chance. I paid £25 for the stick off ebay and got it activated by a very kind Briskodian who has VCDS and lives locally to me. I bought him a crate of beer for his time so we were both happy. So easy to do just make sure you have an M12 spline socket for the centre nut to get the wheel off and be very gentle with the surrounding plastic clips as they feel brittle and easily breakable.

I'd recommend it if you want it and haven't got it from standard as its a nice option to have for cruising when the rest of the world around you is in a rush.

i use it all tgw time on all roads! great

i have never owned a car with cruise, but last late last year my octavia was in the garage getting a new radiator (bit of ice had went right through it and burst it) i had a doctor appointment in Clyde bank and no car to get there. my sister offerd me her 60 plate 1.6 tdi polo, so i took it and while driving into Glasgow i noticed it had cruise so i set it at 65MPH, i found it made me lack in concentration so i took control of the throttle again and never used it again.

I find it frustrating to use simply because of traffic on todays generally crowded roads meaning it needs constant adjustment to make allowances. I'd much rather anticipate amending my speed and using my trusty right boot which also proves more economical. Its handy once in a while but I could happily live without it.

My Fabia vRs came with cruise fitted and I had this option retrofitted to my Octavia I then Octavia II. I use it as much as circumstances allow and wouldn't be without it. Perhaps I am lucky in driving on quietish roads a lot of the time.

Cruise is great, wouldn't have a car without it now

very handy when you drive through roadworks with average speed checks

Its fun using it in normal traffic you have to anticipate a lot more in advance, it's ike paying a little game!

I retro fitted a used stalk and thought I use it a bit, but use it a lot.

Cost £25 and about an hour of my time to fit and code in.

Very easy and (IMO) very worth the money and effort.

I'm a big fan of cruise control and I use it a lot. Mostly on motorways, but it does get use elsewhere! I do use it on average speed camera zones - have enough points on my license and want it to work down to clean......

Had it on by Fabia and miss it on the Octy..we have a few roads where I live where there are more speed cameras than lampposts  in a 30 limit, which are busy roads, loads of parked cars etc...with the Fabia just set it to 30 and was able to concentrate on driving safely..same applies in roadworks etc..I know there is a case for and against but on balance I think it aids safety and I sure do miss it

Had it on a couple of company Golfs I had over past few years and a little while back took on my wifes Fabia vRS without it and have to say even though the car was a DSG and so much less effort to drive than a manual i missed it far more than I thought I would.

Traded the Fabia for a Octavia Blackline DSG recently and v glad to have cruise again; there are definitely times on UK roads (particularly long quiet sections of average speed limit controlled carriageways and motorways) where its v useful.

My only real complaints are its lack of ability to retard the ignition enough when going downhill; car ends up speeding up at which point it becomes a little pointless; also something i miss from my mk6 Golf is the ability to see exactly to the mph what speed has been set in the computer; with cruise on whilst on the move this info used to show constantly in place of the odo which was a neat feature; Octy although largely based on Mk6 doesnt have this, just the green light to indicate its active.

The MkII Octavia is actually largely based on the Mk5 Golf, which probably explains the lack of set speed display. Must have been one of the improvements in the Mk6. On early MkII Octavia's you don't even get a green light to confirm if cruise is on.......my 2006 doesn't anyway!

My 2008 has a yellow one.

Do most of my mileage on cruise; would not go back to a car sans CC. Whole style of driving has changed, use it to accelerate and decelerate as well.

Combined with DSG great, just keep my feet on the footrests most of the time and can concentrate on the road/traffic etc. Would make less sense on a manual, do manual Skodas get fitted with CC? My last car (manual Jag) had it and I used it much less then.

v true but mechanically the FL car inherreted alot of the MK6 GTi changes.....cruise etc perhaps not one of them! Still my golf didnt have some of the options the Octy has in the maxidot (DRLs on off, alarm bleep and rear wiper on with reverse on off beibg a few) on the whole its better!
