changing springs?

Featured Replies

How difficult is it to change the springs over on the vrs? I've got the springs and fancy doing it this weekend. I've got some spring compressors but what else am i going to need?

A Hub splitter will come in usefull to get the front struts out of the hub.

you'll also need some large torx bits to loosen it, but I cant remember what size.

Other than that, its no different from any other car.

The back is a piece of **** :)

Its a M14 spline tool you need not torx mate

Done mine last night for eibach pro kit. Rears done in about 15minutes, fronts take longer.

Thanks for the correction! :) I couldn't remember the correct name!

Cheers guys

Get plenty of Wd40 on that spline nut. I managed to snap mine clean off.

Wd40 EVERYTHING!

Strange thing is that the VAG parts cat calls it "cap head torx" - but they are spline, and the next size up from where most spline kits stop!

Regarding the hub splitter thing, can get from ECP I think

Although before I do myself I'm tempted to see if I have something around - its similar to a square drive that you you pry thru 90 degrees correct?

I'm sure I have got some kind of square type of drive somewhere, I think on my piston ring compressor uses something very similar (as a key) to lock the tool tighter. Perhaps not but its just a thought (being resourceful)

Does anyone know of a how to, or something along those lines?

You don't need to take the drive shaft out

just lookup an archive of the old site for tech info on the eibach fit

Sadly the pictures are lost, I googled them myself and so have most of them on my pc. If you look at the source and just google the original images a lot of them show up in the image search

would you need to geom the car after you've changed the springs over?

would you need to geom the car after you've changed the springs over?

Yes, after fitting springs I suggest waiting a week or so until they have settled and then get it set up, preferably on a hunter laser alignment system
