Garage fixed p2015 - Incorrect?

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon all,

Since I've had the

008213 - Intake Manifold Flap Position Sensor (Bank 1)
               P2015 - 000 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent - MIL ON

error pop up a handful of times post VCDS clearing, I booked the car into the local garage.

Advised them it's p2015 and the Skoda fix is a new intake manifold. Quoted the going £450 for the job, all booked in a sorted in a hour.

I did query how it only took an hour and they said it was the easier model for the work to be done.

Got into the car and engine light was still on, they stated it must not have been cleared. On clearing it, an hour later it came back on, quick scan and it's p2015 again.

Transpired that Trade Parts Specialist told the garage that p2015 fix required a new inlet manifold actuator (throttle body) and so that's what they fitted, not the actual inlet manifold I'd asked to be done.

They hadn't reset the TB so they claim that's what's thrown the engine light the second time.

Now all done.

What are the chances that this is totally the wrong fix? I'm not able to drive the car until tomorrow night so can't have a drive about to check currently.

They asked the parts supplier how to fix the car?!!!!!

I was there when they called them the second time, and yep they asked about the p2015 error and quoted the Intake Manifold Flap Position Sensor fault, and that's how they came to fit a throttle body. It seemed that neither TPS or the garage had ever heard of replacing the intake manifold, although I showed them dozen of threads from VW/Audi/Skoda boards showing that it's the intake manifold all the dealer change under warranty.

They stated they didn't fault code check the car as I'd asked for p2105 to be fixed. I'm a little gobsmacked at the moment as they've been fine with family cars over the years, it's the first time the Skoda's been out of warranty for me to take it there.

The big issue will now be if the code comes back, and they claim they 'fixed' something by fitting a new throttle body (£350 +vat!!) and charge me full whack for a replacement intake manifold. I was under the impression the £350 part was the intake manifold and had no reason to query it.

If the inlet manifold does require replacement then it wouldn't be unreasonable for them to refund to you (via a reduced price on the new work):

a) the labour on the original job.

B) the profit margin on the parts already fitted

c) the profit margin on the parts that still have to be fitted

That's how I would have done it when I was running a workshop.  Sure I'd take a bit of a bath but it wouldn't be a dead loss.

If you've got the inlet off then get them to clean the valves while they are there.

Looks like I'm going to have to take my car in for this fault as well:

P2015

Intake manifold runner position sensor/switch circuit range. Performance Bank 1

Got the error, cleared it, drove for 3 weeks until it came back. Been getting more and more frequent. Today cleared it, pickled wife up from work, light back on.

Outside of warranty but just inside goodwill range if the price is silly money.

As I well expected the light came back on yesterday.

I'll head to the garage Monday with mild anger in my blood.

Since I specifically told them I wanted a new Intake Manifold, never mentioned the likes of a throttle body, I'll be aiming for only paying labour on their cockup at worse, as far as I'm concerned they've gone against what I've asked and simply asked TPS for a part to fix p2015.

Does anyone know what TPS or Skoda charge for a throttle body, as they've charge me £350 +vat, which seems around £120 more than the most expensive I've found online?

I'll be dammed if I end up with a £1000 bill for this, it would have been cheaper to go direct to Skoda and have £200 to waste afterwards.
