Gear lever vibrations

Recommended Posts

If I carefully and lightly rest my hand on on the gear lever while in gear and driving, I can notice a very discernible vibration when in 5th gear is selected vibrations (or lack thereof) from all other gears seem to be normal and well isolated from the gearbox mechanism.

The vibrations only occur while accelerating and stop as soon as I lift the foot off the pedal.

The car is a Yeti 1.2 TSi 110bhp 6-speed manual with little more than 3 months and just over 2500km driven so can't put it down to wear and tear.

Has anyone else noticed the same or can suggest what would be causing it?

Regards,

Paul

It's a Bank Holiday weekend for the majority of us, so i suggest patience.

Fair point - I had forgotten about that.

Enjoy the long weekend everybody!

If its what it sounds like, The simple answer is that its normal and stop resting your hand on the gear lever.

What your doing by applying light pressure to the lever while driving is putting a load on the selector fork and balk rings and syncros so doing it puts additional wear on these parts. Given enough time something will wear out and be expensive.

Youl most likely be able to replicate it in other gears by applying more pressure but i wouldn't recommend it.
