1.2tsi 105 petrol Monte Carlo 2014 - Video of engine noise - can you guess what it is?

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Before I take the car in on Wednesday to get the noise looked at - can any Fabia owners help with identifying the noise?

It sounds similar to a wet finger being ran around a glass rim.

https://youtu.be/mlu_F0d-YXQ

Happening when the engine is warm.

The car is a Monte Carlo 1.2tsi petrol - 14 plate with 6145 miles on the clock and recently serviced by Skoda.

Have owned it around 2 weeks and still under warranty.

Just like some thoughts from other forum users about this noise.

Regards

Ryan.

Welcome to the forum.

Are you sure that is the correct video you are sharing???

Anyway, not a clue, so when does it happen, and has it anything to do with the car being a turbo.

Have you looked at the air cleaner yet and seen what like it is.

Look at the pollen filter, see it is in right.

Hopefully a trained mechanic will know what it is when they hear, or if you are lucky a Skoda technician might.

Remember that many are called Tommy though.

You can't hear that grinding noise?

Yes. Right video. Sorry it's a bit short.

Yes it does sound like metal on metal.

I does sound like it's coming from the engine bay though - although I know it's always difficult to locate a sound.

Any other Fabia owners ideas appreciated.

My car does this intermittently, (if I am hearing it correctly that is). I would describe it as a few nuts or similar being left in a brake drum and tumbling around. It's definitely not that though! I can not locate it when the bonnet is open and engine running and as it is only occasionally there not been able to get the techies to hear it either. Hope you can get a diagnosis.

I hope they can diagnose too but I've been through Fords warranty diagnostic with little answers.

It's blooming annoying.

Ill play them the video and see what they say.....

If it was the brakes - would this be a sign of a fault with the brakes catching on the disc -

Are warped discs an issues on Fabia??

A little frustrating - although a used car it wasn't doing it for for the first 2 weeks of ownership.

Any other ideas from forum users??

After doing a little more driving - I notice the noise when it's warm.

If I press the clutch down the noise goes away??

This to me would rule out discs catching and wheel bearing.

I'm not sure what this leaves as possibles -

I'd be guessing at some part of the clutch but that's the extent of my knowledge.

Any advice?

Alternator, air con pump or water pump bearings, or something rubbing near the aux belt or one of the pulleys maybe? Would be consistant with stationary engine noise, but not if it only happens when the clutch is engaged. Clutch release bearing?

Will have to see what Skoda say - taking it to nearest dealer - Leicester sandicliffe.

Just curious, Did you ever get a diagnosis for this noise?

Happened to my car again yesterday so any feedback would be welcome as it is annoying when you can not locate the source.

Never made the noise when I took into Skoda. I played them the recording but unable to identify what caused it.

Still does it occasionally and in no particular circumstances other than when the engines warmed up- dip the clutch and the noise goes.

Please keep me updated of you find a fix or diagnosis for yours!!
