Handbrake not releasing new caliper causing warm wheel

Recommended Posts

Hi

Recently I have changed all the brakes, disks, caliper (only both rear one) of my Octavia 1.9 TDI. But now the handbrakes behaves strangely. Sometimes the handbrakes lever becomes hard & sometime it is soft to pull. This cause intermittent brakes. The brakes works good all the time but when I release the lever it sometime does not release the calliper fully which cause my rear right wheel to get warm if I drive :(.

Can you help me troubleshooting the failure in my car...

If you have done the calliper's, discs etc and you still have a problem with the brakes grabbing intermittently, then I would be looking at changing the handbrake cables as well. Sounds to me like one is grabbing the internal sleeve and binding.

Also check the alloy guide tubes for the cables as I had a simikar problem and the o/s tube had split.

Not expensive but a bit of a pain to change.

Sorry only just popped back on.

The guides that the cable runs through to the lever.

Hi

I think you are spot on.

After letting the problem live with me for couple of weeks in order to diagnose. I think I have something similar to what you explain.

As I said the problem is intermittent. I pulled the handbrak yesterday to park my car and this morning the wheel was again jammed and handbrake was soft. Than I press the paddle brake and I heard the sound "DIK" from the handbrake and vilolla the wheel get release immediately and handbrake gets normal again. Do you see something similar, clue ?
