  1. On the other hand, if your child had been molested, and then you find a convicted child abuser living in your street, what would you do? The Police are powerless to move them, the council can't help. The abuser won't take subtle hints to move.. I suspect that someone was driven to desperate measures, probably born out of unjustified paranoia. I'm not trying to defend their actions, just showing how these things happen. And no, I wouldn't be overly forthcoming with the name of the culprit either. Reminds me of the case of a drug dealer that was beaten to death by the father of a girl the dealer had helped to kill... Right? Probably not. But then neither was the dealer only serving a few years in jail....
  2. OK, being doing some maths... For ulimate to be worth the extra 4p/litre, you need to be getting an extra 5.3% on your mpg. So, break-even point for a 50mpg car is 52.7... Gets worse if the local Tesco's/Asda is a couple of p cheaper than the normal BP stuff - you then need an extra 11%, so 55.5 mpg becomes the break even point. And that doesn't take into account any detour required to find the 'Ultimate' in the first place. Oh, and Supermarket fuel is just main-brand stuff anyway...
  3. ..Who has owned a MINI Cooper & sent it back 'cos they couldn't make it run properly. (btw - The 3 Fiat's I have owned have been 100% reliable, with zero faults in the 70k miles covered between them...)
  4. ...but yet another newspaper reviewer writing about a car he obviously hasn't driven. All good publicity, but doesn't tell me anythink that wasn't in the press pack....
  5. Post your comments on the Superb. Am interested in the PD130 version. Have found one for similar money to a Fabia vRS. That space is tempting, but so is the performance/fun of the Furby. Decisions, decisions.. (Oops - sorry for being off topic, but couldn't resist...)
  6. Only just found this. Looks like I've missed out on all the fun 2k may not be much money to some people, but its
  7. If pumping them brings them back, then I'd say air is quite likely. The other bet is a leaky master or slave cylinder. Either way, get it to your dealer yesterday, and get it sorted, before you end up with no brakes...
  8. Don't quite see how this Audi is 'bucking the trend'. It has 50bhp MORE than my '94 Rover, drives all 4 wheels, and can't match it to 60mph. Bet my old car would trounce it from 30=>70 mph, and the A3 wouldn't get another look in until over 130mph, when the weight becomes less important, and aerodynamics take over...
  9. The rider on this vid is a bit of a wuss.... I have vid of a similar turbo'ed 'busa. The front wheel leaves the ground at 60mph, touches down again at 140, then the rider opens the throttle. The speedo hits the end-stop at 220mph, but the bike pulls another 1,000 rpm (it then hits the limiter!), so I'd say that is an indicated 240mph. Oh, and 60=>220 took approx. 16 seconds. This is what happens when you put in excess of 300bhp in a bike weighing 180kg.... (Oh, and the price for all this performance? Yours for under
  10. I would imagine he will be prosecuted for dangerous driving, driving without road tax, insurance, etc. For this, he should get a prison sentence. I would use the legal cover on my insurance (you did take this out?) to take a private prosecution against him for recovery of your losses. A nice sized CCJ should stop him getting a life... Alternatively, if all the above fails, I know someone that knows someone (if you know what I mean) that will make him see the error of his ways....
  11. No witnessed are needed in this one. He should have not been overtaking by a junction. And as he hit the driver's side door, I assume he was overtaking you. Therefore he is liable, full stop. An overtaking driver tends to have a tough case proving his innocence, no matter what else happens. The fact that the accident happened by a junction only strengthens your case.
  12. I was like that while I was waiting for my MINI. Wasn't such a good idea, tho, as I changed the order 3 times....
  13. I'm tending to go off the Octy at the moment. 3 main reasons: - Don't seem to be able to find one at the right price - Don't like the idea of buying a nearly new car that is about to be replaced - I'm sure the Fabia has more space in the back than the Octy - it's certainly more comfortable.
  14. Shame you didn't have a rocket launcher tucked under your desk. That would have made a mockery of the huge security operation....
  15. Well, it bought out the hooligan in me when I drove it - had to overtake everything in site, just to feel that huge torrent of torque :drive:
  16. This guy has committed an offence - at least 2 (other than flashing his lights at you). One - he followed you home, flashing his lights at you. The Police would treat this as road rage. Two - He assaulted you. Verbal assault is still assault. I had a bloke chase me (and I mean chase!) to work for the heinous crime of sounding my horn at him when he practically took me out at a roundabout. He then was threatening me with everything, and saying he was calling the police for dangerous driving. He left VERY quietly when our transport manager pointed out to him that following someone to their destination & giving them grief is a crime, and that this had all been captured on tape.... So, if you are worried, go to Argos & buy a CCTV system for the front of your house. About 60 quid for one that can activate your video....(If you insurer is sensible, you may get a discount on your house insurance for this...)
  17. Kentish - what is the fuel consumption like on yours? Combined is 48mpg - do you get close to this?
  18. Opening the rear doors will not be a problem. I am used to the Multipla - this thing is so wide that the wheels tend to touch both white lines in supermarket car parks. I was looking at the Classic. I've seen one at a main agents with alloys, 5,000 miles, on an 03 plate, for
  19. The car is replacing a Fiat Multipla, and will be my Wife's means of getting to work (unless I nick it for the day). Yes, there is a little one to move as well. But for 95% of the time, the Furby would be big enough. But the temptation of having a 'posher' car for the same money is big. And I did like sitting in the superb... I like wafting along, but I also enjoy a good drive down twisty border roads. What is the Superb like at this? As for modding, the Suspension/body would stay standard, but the engine may get Jabba'd!
  20. OK, so I've decided that I want a Skoda. I've also picked the engine - the 130 PD-TDi. But which car? A brand-new Fabia vRS (the hooligans choice) A slightly-used Octavia (Huge boot!) A nearly-new Superb Comfort (Very stylish, loads of kit) Any help would be much appreciated!
  21. Most kids are flattened outside their own home. So, we need speed cameras on every road with a house on it in the country. That should make Gatso a few quid... Oh, and speed cameras actualy RAISE the speed of traffic on a given stretch of road. People slow down for the cameras, then speed up again afterwards. But because they have been delayed, they need to make up for this by going faster... Oh, and how likely is it for a happy chappy to be there with a radar gun on a stretch of road with cameras in it??? Cameras are great at slowing traffic at individual points (outside schools, dangerous junctions, etc) but do not help raise driving standards. Some police authorities that have invested heavily in cameras have found their accident rates rising. Why? Because they have taken traffic police off the roads - they are not needed with all the cameras keeping everyone safe....
