  1. The mk2 is good, but it wouldn't have taken much to make it great, I'm yet to do it but in round figures a thousand pounds sorts them out to be great, and remember that's a thousand retail pounds to replace parts, if the parts were manufacturered in bulk and fitted at the assembly line it may have cost VAG as little as 200 euro more to produce the car in the first instance but that would have paid for itself simply from the extra sales that would have been generated by it being the 'THE' hot hatch to have of its day. That in turn would roll on a natural number of mk3 buyers like me from mk1 to mk2 but if mk3 does happen, it needs to be great or I'll be off to another manufacture.
  2. Ooo.... good question! I've owned both mk1 and mk2 and to sum up the mk1 was an outstanding value for money fast hatch with good mpg, the mk2 is a cracking engine and gearbox that leaves me asking every time I drive it, how good could this be with a good chassis and brake setup?! #disappointed A mk3 vrs could benefit from a couple of choice engine options, a petrol/7speed dsg - 180-200bhp and diesel/6 speed manual - 160/170bhp then a few basic boxes need ticking, firstly the vrs needs to be the clear cut flagship of the fabia range, other details like HID headlights and led lights across the board are small things that just leave you that bit disappointed with the mk2. The chassis and brakes need to be of a higher standard, a fast engine in a shopping trolley wont cut it for me next time I'm looking to part with hard earned pennies. An CUP type chassis/brake option I would spec but the basic vrs needs to be a VRS first and for most, not just a 180bhp monte carlo (no disrespect intended) Wrighty
  3. Had the opposite problem with my classic mini back in my younger days, that ran koni sport dampers and they were so easy to compress but near on impossible to extend, the resulting effect was the car sucked its self to the floor after a few hundred miles. My interpretation of the attachment is explaining how to mount the rear beam ensuring there is no pretension in the mounting/pivot bushes. i.e. Drive it over a pit, undo the rear beam mounting bolts a few turns (bush inner/outer goes ping, neutral) do bolts back up, job done, if still sits high its the nature of the dampers and should settle a bit with miles. *Edit* hopefully!
  4. I'll buy some on work and use them for research and development, i need a project to save me from the crap tv swmbo watches every night. Good fluid is also very important as you say and braided lines are a must have on my list as well.
  5. A firm pedal with feel is very important, my standard brakes are possibly good enough for a car with 100bhp but not the vrs.
  6. Reading abit in the combe and the awesome gti rolling road threads, you seemed really pleased with the stoping power, do they give you a good pedal feel though and have you left the rears as standard?
  7. I took delivery of mine 100% standard intentionally so I had time to feel the standard car and way up the options, also I like to fit the stuff myself. I'm wanting to go tad lower with H&R 40mm, B8's, and powerflex black series bush kit, then way up the rarb and currently undecided what to do with the brakes. Anyway i must apologize for derailing this thread, back on topic, i feel like Tesco momentum does have the edge over the other fuels available, the bark from the engine between 5000rpm to 6500 on the momentum does feel that bit more racy!
  8. err... Suspension and brakes to compliment the beaut under the bonnet maybe. I think as most are finding out that over the counter bolt on parts transform the chassis to be better in all areas so it is possible to have a hot hatch with good handling and retain or possibly even improved ride quality, ashame that there is no recognised bolt on brake package (please correct if I'm wrong) Imo vag should offer an rs/cup type option, with 5/10 extra BHP, propper brakes, suspension and an esp off button, the engine deserves it!
  9. It's a cracking engine/gearbox combo (assuming its all working as intended) it really does deserve a better chassis and brake setup to complement though. For road use it is plenty fast enough, just needs the chassis sorting. Good BHP that!
  10. That will be the salesman wanting commission for the sale and fitting imo, everything you do to the car is something they can't make money out of. It much depends on the individual at the dealer and the dealers sales logic they are encouraged to follow, it could potentially be a grey area if say they caused a paint perforation warranty claim in a couple years because the rub though the paint and rust started spreading and they could then turn round and say they weren't fitted by an authorized skoda technician etc, etc.... I personally would buy them online or from another dealer an fit myself, if genuine skoda parts they will never bat an eyelid when it goes in for service.
  11. Am I reading and understanding correctly that you can't find anyone to fit a bush kit to your car i.e. Powerflex bush kit?! I did everything to my mk1 myself, that included front bottom arm bushes, engine mounts, springs and dampers, discs and pads, tracked it after a reputable local company did it and it scrubed out the inside sholder of the front tyres in next to no time, so i did it and while i was at it got the steering wheel straight at same time, car felt better to drive and tyre wear was spot on after that. Hard to believe that you can't find anyone to fit bushes after all the other mods that you've had fitted.Front bottom arm bushes are easy to fit and will sharpen up the steering nicely with everything else you have done, thoes will probably make the biggest feelable difference to the car on top of all other mods imo, all else will make the package that bit sweater/sharper all round. Wrighty
  12. Hope all you guys any gals have an awesome day and the weather is good for you, was going to try make it there to meet some of you face to face but work commitments have pulled rank last minute. Have a good one and stay safe! Wrighty
  13. Tiff would say 'the electronic stability program can't be switched off, soooo frustrating!!! I drive mine quite hard I think and i think some of the understeer is induced by the esp, the transfer from understeer-neutral-oversteer when you play on throttle/brake in a corner doesn't feel like just a bad chassis and brake setup to me, there is electronic intervention going on in there quite alot and i personally don't like it, it's far to nannying and spoils the car somewhat when driving with spirit of da vrs. Such a shame when engine and gearbox combo is exceptionally good!
  14. It has loads of extra padding and a harness for when then they are smaller, in the pic you see it has all been taken out as I said she tall for her age. We had the rear facing maxi cosi fron new born through to about nine months, can't remember exactly now but she was far to big for that at the age recommendations I seem to remember and plenty strong enough to hold her head up, I think most of us have a good sense of what our kids need and when so we went with bit of seat manufacturers recommendations and what we as parents felt was right for our child. Guidlines are exactly that, guidelines.
  15. Agreed with running the running in, don't baby it, I just shied away from max full throttle and max rpm for the first 600 miles but was still using plenty of rev's up to 5500/6000 ish and lots of early down changes with the paddles in manual mode to use engine braking. Handling wise you did the right thing getting the eibach's bolted on at pdi by all accounts on here, mine handles like a stoned Tesco shopping trolley, slow to respond and paranoid about crashing. In all seriousness though, I am probably over critical of the handling because I used to race karts, I will be modifying soon to get it more to my liking though. Anyway, congrats on the new purchase, the colour choice is cool and ENJOY!!!!
  16. The Recaro we have is a good seat, it supports my daughter much better than the cheap one my parents bought for incidental use, i.e. when she falls asleep her head looks far more comfortable and she doesn't keep slumping forward and someone having to constantly prop her up again. It fits nice in the front of the vrs, in the back you need to lift the head rest up for it to sit in the car properly and ideally move the front seat forward a couple notches for leg room depending on how old, my daughter is 5 in a couple months and tall of her age though. I bought it when she was 9 months old because it's got RECARO written on, everything else has just ended up a bonus
  17. Have these things been put to work yet??!! Waiting like a dog for his dinner on your thoughts of these!!!
  18. As a rule when in manual mode, I down change to 2nd and let the car decide if it requires 1st or not, as if I change down to first when still rolling it doesn't always seem to know what to do when reapplying the throttle, I get a big hesitation etc. Worth noting again that even in manual it will up/down change by it's self if needed.
  19. Do I remember correctly that you went for 215/40/17R on those? how do they fit the rim width wise?
