  1. Whoops, Orange is your ISP, better ignore that bit!!
  2. I have free Orange email on my WAP phone, I've never given the email address to anyone, and have only accessed it to test. I get 100% junk mail every day, and currently I have over 250 junk mails sitting there. On my regular webmail provider (Tiscali) I rarely get junk. Either ditch the Orange email in favour of your ISP email or other webmail providers, or get some very fancy junk mail filters!
  3. Well the saga continues. Parcelfarce tried to deliver today (proving they lied about trying yesterday). I wasn't in so they took it back to depot and left me a card. Since my son was near the depot later on, he dropped in to collect. Oops! "not this depot mate, that driver is always leaving the wrong card". Now hoping to get delivery (from the right depot) to local post office. So that's at least four premium rate phone calls, plus two car trips, to collect something which should have been delivered yesterday. Watch this (so far, empty) space!
  4. Ordered goods Friday, sent via Parcelfarce. Tracking data said out for delivery at midnight Friday. No delivery Saturday (that was expected). Waited (wasted!) all Monday, no doorbell, no "missed you" card. Tracking data says delivery attempted at 15.30, parcel back in depot at 16.00. Called depot at 17.05 (premium rate), auto options don't work, no alternative to speak to human. Call head office, they say it's out for re-delivery tomorrow (to where?). I say I can't stay at home another day, they say they'll schedule it for collection at my local Post Office, but how do I know if/when it's there if no missed delivery card tomorrow, plus I'll have to collect it during PO hours and it will cost me a "counter fee". Am I angry? Am I annoyed? Am I breathing fire and smoke? Is the Pope a Catholic? Grrrrr!!!!!!
  5. It's been manufactured before week 22. I got told the same thing (mp3's would play) but it ain't true! Still using my trusty Audia-X FM transmitter with my mp3 player.
  6. Must agree with others about the pills. Very easy to get dependent on them, much better to have dependable, unbiased friends who can listen, and also to establish cause. Diet & exercise have been known to be factors, make sure he/she gets regular, healthy meals (no excessive junk food, sugar-rich, or alcohol) and does some exercise if possible. Can recommend a book "I'm OK, You're OK", bit out of date but still relevant. Things CAN get better - but he/she has to WANT it to. Just keep being positive and supportive - and don't feel guilty yourself if things don't change quickly enough.
  7. Born in Burton and grandad worked for the company - I guess I'm biased!
  8. Happened to me about 5 years ago, someone just backed into my car, but no-one in the car and culprit just drove off. 3rd party witnessed but didn't get reg. Result was a very large repair bill, loss of NCD and tied in to insurance company until full discount regained. Hope you have better luck - bring back public flogging, I say!
  9. Had a similar problem with the old VW Golf, started reading either nothing or max. Turned out to be a broken plastic impeller in the water pump, needed a partial engine strip to replace, but if it hadn't been found the bits could have caused terminal damage.
  10. Use a Poorboys waffle myself (dry), wash & dry it after use then keep it in a plastic bag. Great product!
  11. Not creaking, but it sounds as if I have a canary trapped in the back somewhere behind the drivers seat, occasional squeaking which I can't tie down to anything in particular. Looks like I need a passenger to crawl around in the back for a few miles!
  12. Wonderful stuff, the post race press interviews were interesting, riders said how much they enjoyed it! The Championship is wide open, even if Rossi manages to win it again it won't spoil the fun. Much, much more entertaining than F1.
  13. I have one, I changed from a 1.6 VW Golf. The Octy has the 115bhp engine, the Golf had the 105bhp. Early days yet, but overall I can't detect much difference between them. I think the Octy is a bit higher geared so although it's about 10-15% more frugal with the petrol, and high-speed cruising is quieter, it seems a bit less torquey on hills. As has been said, it depends on what you're comparing it with!
  14. Another vote for T'bird, the inbuilt spam learning filter, plus your own definable message filters, achieve about 99% accuracy spam detection.
  15. At the end of the day it's their blood pressure and heart attack, not yours. Better to know you're in the right and live to enjoy another day thah risk getting rammed (or worse). People don't realise they're in charge of a potential lethal weapon, and it's always the inncoecnts that get hurt the most.
  16. Easy peasy to fit yourself, and definitely worth getting. The decorative ones look good but I think the standard black ones cover a bit more sill. Dealer threw the standard ones in for free. The eBay ones look good value if you want the posher ones.

  18. Just for interest, where is the audible alarm situated (on an Octy), is it a horn or a siren, and how do I test it without breaking something? (please )
  19. Try going down it on a push bike! The view from the top is frigyhtening, and the top few hairpins (47 in all) are pretty scary, there's hardly any time to let the brakes off between bends, and they (used to) have corrugated corners to aid car wheel traction.
  20. It's mostly all been said already, but : Never use plastic rim tape, use correct width cotton tape, and change it when you replace worn tyres. Always use fingers to check carefully inside the tyres after any puncture. Never inflate beyond recommended pressures. Patches are very likely to lift in hot weather, tubes are so cheap these days you can almost afford to throw 'em away when they puncture. OK I'm talking particularly about a road bike, but basically it's not worth playing with your safety, whether you're descending tarmac at 40mph or relying on knobblys to get you round tree stumps on singletrack.
  21. I'm running my (6 week old) 1.6 FSI Octy on Tesco or Morrisons super-unleaded, and have noted some slight pinking when accelerating under load e.g. uphill (yes I am using the correct gear ratio!). Never had any problems using the same stuff with my (ex-)Golf, and normally I'd have blamed weak mixture/retarded ignition timing, but would changing to 99 RON or even Esso/BP 97 cure it in the Octy?
  22. Having just swapped my 01 Golf 1.6 for an 06 Octy 1.6 I can say categorically that, for similar models, the Octy is a) roomier all round, about 20% more fuel efficient, c) similar in performance (old Golf was 105bhp, Octy is 115bhp), d) better equipped, e) generally quieter and f) cheaper!
  23. 8.5 weeks for me, order to delivery/pickup
  24. Tough luck m8. Someone did the same to my (ex-)Golf in my gym car park. Whatever happened to honesty, integrity and good old-fashioned neighbourliness? Or failing that, a good kick in the radiator of the culprit? And on another subject, why should this affect the NCD on my motorbike????
  25. Got my Talex Lite update kit today, couple of false starts getting the thing to connect but everything worked eventually and, contrary to Pete's statement, no problem with McAfee firewall. I don't have the Privacy option iinstalled, so maybe that's the key issue.
