  1. Hi, when you put Econ on if Auto is still showing it will alter fan speed itself it will try and reach desired temperature just without using AC in econ mode. You need to turn the fan speed knob as well as putting it in econ so that auto disappears from screen then it should be in manual mode thats how all climate control systems I've used seem to work and certainly on Face lift model but sure it was the same on roomster with old stile climate control that I used once.
  2. Hi you can order all the parts separately did it with my last mk2 Fabia. You need the frame, foam, cover to match your interior, and guide tubes can't remember exact cost but it was about the same as ordering it from factory (£40 ish). Just need to be careful cutting holes in top of seat as the holes for the tubes should already be there if you feel along top of seat with your hand. Should be obvious which tube fits in which side. Will try and find old receipt with part numbers.
  3. Thanks for checking . Thats a shame, still looks good on the mirror control may have to buy one for the fabia will match the one I fitted to the switch for the lights.
  4. Looks good , I'd also like to know if it fits the tweeters on the other door would look really smart
  5. Agree I think they should scrap VED and put a couple of pence per litre on fuel plus ring fence money for transport. Straight away every vehicle in the country has paid VED, no need to waste money sending out reminders, fines, tax discs etc. Also could free up police time and budgets by not chasing untaxed cars. Would be fair as some one who does a 1000 miles a year would pay a lot less that someone who does 100,000 miles where as under current system they could pay the same or less. Plus spending the money on the roads surely increases construction and jobs plus improves transport infrastructure = benefits for whole economy and smooth roads . However they will probably never do it because it would mean a loss of jobs in some areas :S.
  6. Had the same issue not long ago and had the shim fitted which touch wood has cured it. I don't think there will be too much of a wait mine went in on wed morning and had it back by friday. Skoda also provided me with a brand new seat ibiza 1.6 sport rider. Seems like it may be early versions affected mines Oct 2010 with 15,000 miles. Not entirely sure about the new part but having a good look around the engine it just looks like a small piece of metal near the rod where the turbo is.
  7. Well car has now been in and had new shim fitted they didn't say if any software update has been done but it seemed really quiet and refined more than usual and the dsg box seems to hold gears for longer on hills rather than changing down to about 4th when 5th or 6th would be fine. All credit to Skoda after a brief argument regarding stored codes when the ecp light came on they took the car wed morning provided me with a brand new 1.6 tdi Ibiza (which was nice, though felt a bit heavy and didn't feel that quick) within 2 hours and then called me this morning to advise all ready to collect . Fingers crossed that its all fixed now it also returned the same economy as the ibiza of 54mpg on the way back.
  8. Sounds like there could be an update needed for the earlier 1.2 tsi's will call dealer on monday see when they can have a look, agreed if the computer says no then that is pretty much it :S.
  9. Doesn't sound right I know when cold the TSI sounds a bit rough and without air con on idles about 750rpm but not had it like that before. SJRT thats interesting mine had EPC light come on and limp mode on Friday afternoon having driven and stopped at bank setting off again after heavy rain. That limp home mode is so dangerous the car beeped EPC came up and workshop it did this pulling on to a roundabout and wouldn't go above 200rpm no acceleration at all. Had to stop turn engine off and back on and it went away, keep me updated on what they say as looks like will need to take mine in at some point. Can I ask how long you have had yours? Got mine in Oct last year and now on 14k miles just wondered if it was age/ mileage related.
  10. The 1.2 TSI is a fab engine even if it does have a taste for oil at times lol, Just to prove that 53.3 combined is achievable: This was done on a journey with a mix of motorway and small villages including stop for petrol and several sets of traffic lights just driven normally, was showing 55mpg but was a very steep hill all done with ac on. Best I've had was coming back from sheffield mostly down hill and motorway where I got 58mpg with ac on. Overall managing around 45 - 48 mpg day to day and around 52+ on a run. Which is a bit better than the 1.2 hpt I used to have which averaged 45 mpg over 30k miles considering this is an auto, weighs more and has another 35bhp I think its pretty good. I think the tests should be done at a higher speed with all electrical components on e.g. air con heated screen lights etc which would perhaps give a more accurate result. I think no matter what they seem to do the maximum mpg for a petrol is around the 50mpg mark and around 60mpg for diesel. My mums yaris is the same for kidding about fuel economy thats supposed to manage 64.2 extra urban not a chance in hell that it can do that :S it gets similar economy to the 1.2 tsi both day to day and on a run. Only car we have which beats the combined mpg is cayenne which gets 18.9 compares to combined of 17.9 rofl.
  11. Yeah I have changed over to winter alloys on the fabia and yaris and got the other fabia some Hankook optimo 4s which seem to be rated highly for snow as an all weather tyre plus stocked up on rock salt, de-icer and some snow shovels. Agree that winter tyres are brilliant when the cold weather arrives fitted mine last year for first time before all the bad weather arrived and only issue I then had was ground clearance as they got me places that others couldn't get. The skinny wheels should be good, surprising how much difference they make to ride and noise my Fabia has gone from the 205/45 16's to 195/55 15's for winter and that has made a noticeable difference.
  12. Is it just me that quite likes this car and the new Skoda badge. I think it needs to be in a darker colour like midnight blue or black and will look pretty classy.
  13. About the platform but I think the facelift Fabia actually runs the new platform if you compare to the pre-facelift the dimensions including wheelbase are different the entire front end looks to be off the polo including the suspension, engine mounts and front bumper in order to fit the new engines in. Even the rear seats are different and look to be from polo/ ibiza. Will be interesting to see still think they should do a 4 wheel drive scout hatch and estate would buy one of those if they bought it out, this still sounds like a complicated project.
  14. Yeah forgot about the Chrysler hemi engines not sure they were all that clean or economical though. Your right about combining it with ever sophisticated auto boxes maybe it would be most economical on a 3cylinder engine which reduces the friction and would be balanced when running on 2 cylinders but allow for better acceleration when on all cylinders could combine it with direct injection and turbo charging?
  15. Looks like a lot of VAG engines will get this the new S6, 7 and 8 all feature a V8 which can switch to 4 cylinder mode maybe as a test bed but does sound very interesting. Think Mercedes will be annoyed as I read somewhere they planned to be the first to have this technology in mainstream car ranges starting with s-class. Wonder if the Bugatti's will get this technology lol. Also could they put it onto diesel engines?
  16. Indeed think he has had enough of Skoda he has been on the Toyota owners forum
  17. I had the same when I first got mine last year, was going to mention it to the dealer but seemed to sort itself after a weekly wash when I used a detailing brush to clean around the base of the light there seems to be some small gaps in the seals to allow water out and air in which must have been blocked previously.
  18. Can't say I've had the same only thing is the revs sometimes rise to about 1500 rpm for about 30 secs before moving back to the usual 700 - 800 rpm idling range, but as you say yours isn't revs related only strange noise I seem to have is taking the key out the engine seems to click loudly a few times like a computer resetting. Sounds like it could be related wonder if it is similar to the 1.4 tsi misfire at start up some topics have mentioned? What fuel are you using?
  19. Well car had its first service today which went ok and my glove box light has been fixed needed a new bulb and the switch reattaching as the light had been staying on all the time. However annoyingly I now no longer have oil temp display on maxidot which I really liked having :( hoping it can be re-enabled. Also asked them to look at windows from remote key fob they work pressing and holding lock they wind up no problems however holding unlock they intermittently decide to roll down which is really annoying sometimes it takes several attempts or just wont work from unlock button at all. Courtesy car I had worked perfectly in this respect and the 1.6 TDi engine was really good managed 63mpg out of it but to me at least didn't seem that much quieter than a PD engine. Anyone else had anything similar?
  20. Can I ask is the car under finance? Only reason is that if you are having issues with SUK and the dealer your finance company can often have some influence. Hopefully you will get some better news soon regarding the car.
  21. Sorry to hear bout your issues but like others have said I would allow them to fix it keep the courtesy car and then hopefully that will be the only issue you have. Also it saves putting miles on your car and you can put the miles on the courtesy car. Plus if you sell you will prob be a lot out of pocket. Keep us updated I would hope the Skoda UK would at very least let you have the courtesy car as long as you need.
  22. I'm surprised at the issues your having I've had 4 Fabia's now 2 mk1's which had a number of niggles and 2 mk2's have to say the mk2's have been a lot better. My brother now has my 1.2 level 2 57 plate Fabia and no matter how hard driven (and believe me he has 0 mechanical sympathy) gives 40mpg and if your careful 50+ mpg is pretty achievable never had any issues above 50mph either pulls fine and thats comparing to a 1.2 tsi. Yes its no ball of fire but more that adequate. I do agree about the tyre noise and wind noise can be pretty loud though I do wonder if there is less sound proofing on th 2/ se models as the elegance models seem a lot quieter. Also the bridgestone tyres are very noisy and give a poor ride compared to others plus they are not designed for optimum performance on snow and ice. I'm really surprised at your trade in prices when I came to trade mine in last year was offered between £4,250 - £5000 and that was for a 3 year old car with 40000 miles only paid 9k to start with, however trade is normally always a lower value that selling private and can depend on the dealer/ time of the month for bonuses etc. Also regarding your freezing doors putting some rubber care liquid on the seals and the felt part normally stops this but can affect any car my mums Yaris and dad's Cayenne had the same issue with the extreme weather we had last winter just needed a bit of tepid water if they did freeze or a fairly firm tug. Then again it may be a Friday afternoon car.
  23. I've not had this issue yet however do have different issues with the central locking. One is that after driving and getting out of the car even if all doors are unlocked the boot remains locked and I have to use the remote or button on console to unlock. Also the windows holding down the unlock button refuse to operate sometimes it won't wind them all down no matter how many times I try holding down unlock which can be really annoying. Once I tried for about 5 mins still wouldn't work so got in car turn ignition and attempted to put all windows down using buttons on drivers door all worked except passenger rear window which refused to go up or down until i removed key and started car again very strange. Even holding key in unlock and lock to reset windows doesn't cure issues.
  24. The TSI DSG combo is great and gives 40-50 mpg + very easily. However as you say the price difference is huge and would buy a lot of petrol. The 1.6 auto I have only driven in the Roomster it is very smooth I found or at low speeds where there is not the hesitation as with dsg including parking. However the 1.6 feels slow and underpowered I realise the Roomster is bigger and slightly heavier but it felt slower the the 1.2htp 70bhp I had. When on the motorway I was constantly having to use the kick down function to make any progress, cruising at 60 - 70 mph and a hill arrives the box was constantly swapping ratios due to the low torque levels where as dsg will stay in 7th with no issues. Also the kick-down in the auto was slow had to leave a big gap as you press pedal down and nothing for a few seconds then would surge forward where as dsg will instantly give you the power and change down several ratios, when I used the 1.6 auto I really struggled to get 40mpg though the car only has a 1000 miles on the clock I would say average economy would be 30 - 40 mpg. I would say given the price difference the 1.6 is not all bad and the extra money would buy extra fuel if you do a lot of town work the auto may be better suited however if you can afford the extra the tsi is light years ahead in terms of power and economy provided you can forgive the dsg some hesitation around town in return for a better box for overtaking and country drives. Hope it helps.
  25. From what I understand the Tesco 99ron uses extra bio fuel to increase the octane plus other additives where as Shell refines and just uses additives. The bio fuel may be why the engine hesitates?
