  1. I made a similar enquiry myself and was advised that 17" was the minimum. Luckily I still have the full size alloy from my previous vRS, although apparently the jack has changed (improved?) between the Mk2 and Mk3. I ordered the foam, tools etc from my local dealer for £41.00 and will be selling the unused jack, foam etc. from the Mk2.
  2. I used to transport a Greyhound in my Mk2 FL vRS hatch with no problems. She was used to a Mk6 Golf and loved the amount of space! Unfortunately she won't get to travel in the Mk3 as we lost her in March. :S The hatch seems at a slightly flatter angle but you should be okay. I can recommend the genuine Skoda dog guard - easy to install/remove and robustly made.
  3. Whilst I have the deepest sympathy for those who have suffered this problem it is important to remember that the failure is not inevitable and not all cars will be affected. I bought a Mk2 FL vRS in January 2014 with 36,000 miles on the clock and have just traded it in at 66,000 for a Mk3 vRS, so 30,000 in 20 months. I didn't get the 'death rattle' at any point and although mindful of the problem it didn't stop me enjoying the car or cause me to lose sleep. Don't get me wrong, I am not playing down the situation but a balance needs to be struck and sensible measures (as shown in previous posts) taken to reduce the chances of it happening.
  4. Thanks for the responses, it looks like I'll be re-using the spare and ordering a new jack.
  5. I have just changed from a Mk2 FL vRS to a Mk3 vRS and have an 18" Neptune from my previous car and the tool kit with jack etc. I have two questions for those 'in the know'. Am I correct in thinking that the PCD is the same? I'm not worried about the wheel matching as it would be only a spare; and Is the jack the same for the Mark 2 and Mark 3 Octavia? I have the foam and tools etc. (unused) from the old car and would prefer not to have to buy another set. Thanking you in anticipation,
  6. I have just changed my Mk2 FL vRS for a Mk3 vRS. Not liking the pump & gunge idea I went to the trouble of getting a full size alloy spare for the old car and had it refurbished. It is an 18" Neptune in sliver and is shod with a Goodyear EGP with 6mm of even tread remaining. I am in need of an 18" Gemini in anthracite, preferably with a good tyre on it. I also have the foam insert with jack and brace (unused) and would like to swap it for the Mk3 version.
  7. I went to the hatch again - the boot is big enough as it is. My wife refers to it as the Tardis - a blue box that is bigger on the inside than the outside!
  8. Today I traded in my faithful Mark 2 FL vRS TSI hatch for a Mark 3 vRS TSI. Sorry to see it go but a new job means lots of miles and it was the right time whilst still a viable trade in. The car has gone to Murray Skoda at Plymouth and should be for sale soon. If anybody needs any background on the car please let me know. I left the Briskoda stickers in to entice the new owner to join. I'll be putting some genuine accessories up for sale in the next few days including a refurbished Neptune alloy & tyre, dog guard, foam insert & jack and rubber boot mat so keep an eye on the for sale section. Many thanks to all those on the forum for advice guidance and humour. I'll be on the Mark 3 forum from now on.
  9. Picked up my 15 plate Race Blue vRS DSG petrol hatchback today and loving it!
  10. With a mixture of urban and dual carriageway work, I regularly get 40mpg on the commute. Less at weekends.............................................
  11. Following a change of job and now getting a car allowance I am looking to change my 2010 Mk2 FL petrol VRS DSG for something a bit younger and lower mileage. My question to those of you who have done it - is the extra cost of an early Mk3 VRS worth it over the last of the Mk2 FLs? Thanking you in anticipation,
  12. In past threads there have been some reports of leakage from the rear washer supply.
  13. I've just had pair of Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance fitted to the front. Excellent in wet and dry conditions and very quiet! Bought for less than £100 each (fitted) via Black Circles.
  14. The petrol VRS definitely works as a 'daily user' in my experience. My daily commute is a 66 mile round trip and I have put 20k miles on the clock in 14months. Consumption averages 39 mpg in winter and 40 mpg in summer. It even makes the journey to work enjoyable! Yes I could have something 'ordinary' but spending two hours a day in the car, it needs to be fun.
  15. I bought my petrol DSG version in January 2014 with 37,000 miles on the clock. It has now done 56,000. Would I have saved money on fuel with the diesel version - yes. Would I have enjoyed it as much - no. As it is I get between 39 and 40 mpg on the daily commute.
  16. Has anyone come up with a successful solution to sealing the 'regular' gap? I can't believe the gap has been left for cooling purposes. VWs have seals everywhere which in my experience quiten things down considerably and my last Golf suffered no ingress of water into the engine bay.
  17. I don't live in Plymouth, but I do work there! Daily commuting from Newton Abbot in a Black Magic FL Octavia VRS.
  18. On Saturday I had a pair of Goodyear EGPs fitted - less that £100 each from Black Circles. Can't comment on the dry grip levels yet as I am still scrubbing them in but they are significantly quieter than the Chinese Ditch-hunters the car came fitted with! Living in 'sunny' Devon I can also vouch for their water-clearing abilities!
  19. My VRS 'steams' when it is cold, or more precisely when the outside air is cold. It is definitely not smoke and does it until it is up to temperature. There have been a number of posts on the forum on this subject in the past. You will be able to tell whether yours is actually producing smoke by the way it dissipates into the air and most of all the smell.
  20. Welcome to the wonderful world of the TSi VRS. Tomorrow I will have had mine a year and have never had a day that I regretted buying it. You will find this forum to be the source of much useful information.
  21. I have a 60-plate petrol VRS and it starts to generate some heat within a couple of minutes! The demisting problem may be down to the amount of damp already present in the vehicle. There is a thread on the site regarding damp which has some good tips. It's not a problem I experience, but then the car is a bit spoiled by being in a heated garage most nights.
  22. If you go on the Hunters website, there is a list of dealers that have their rigs.
  23. That sort of budget should get you a nice 3-year old Petrol VRS DSG from a dealer with a few extra toys fitted. That's what I did last year and there has never been a day I have regretted it. I never thought I would like a car with DSG but I am now a convert! it has made me wonder why I have been using a manual box for so many years. Go for it - you know it makes sense!
  24. I had my compressor relaced at 3.5 years old and 42,000 miles. Luckily it was covered by warranty. Having bought the car last January, I didn't notice the lack of air-con until I needed it in July! Needless to say I have taken up the offer of another year of Skoda warranty. £399 for the year but it doesn't take much to fail to get up to that amount on labour alone.
