  1. Had exactly the same thing last November on the M5 at 70mph. Always better to check than assume it is a rogue message!
  2. There seem to be more of these 'Service Centres' cropping up. This happened with my local dealer who stopped selling Skodas but continued with selling VWs. Same technicians and lets face it the cars are very similar underneath. Just don't believe every bit of 'advice' they offer!
  3. Overall I am getting 41 mpg which includes a daily 44 mile commute on dual carriageway plus weekend fun. A great car!
  4. Having the car set up on a Hunter rig makes a world of difference - it certainly did with my Mk2 FL vRS. My latest vRS (bought with 5,500 miles on the clock) was checked and one of the rear wheels was outside tolerance. Had all four wheels set up correctly for peace of mind as much as anything. It makes things quieter and saves the tyres - well worth doing.
  5. I carry (and have used) the 18" Zenith spare from my Mk2 FL. It fits no problem.
  6. The Skoda OEM boot liner is very robust and is a perfect fit.
  7. I went from a Mk2 FL petrol vRS to the Mk3 version and have not regretted it a day since. It is a much better car all round, except for the start/stop which annoys me and gets switched off as soon as the engine is started!
  8. As above - getting the car set up properly makes a world of difference.
  9. I use a Neptune as the spare on my vRS and am glad it's a perfect fit after getting a puncture a fortnight ago!
  10. The salesman activated it on mine and by the time I had got home (33 miles) I was determined to deactivate it. I find the 'corrections', no matter how gentle, quite annoying. Perhaps that is the idea - if it is annoying you then you are less likely to nod off!
  11. I think my consumption figures are due to early years spent on small-engined motorcycles - on those you had to keep up the momentum. If you slowed down too much it took an age to get back up to speed! I haven't checked the consumption on the days I decide to give it an 'Italian tune-up'!
  12. Article on BBC News website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-34712435
  13. When the salesman was talking me through the features on the car even he got confused!
  14. On the radio this morning they said it was likely to be those vehicles with small engines and low outputs. At the moment that doesn't concern me!
  15. My first experience of DSG was on my previous Mk2 vRS TSi. Having put 30k miles on it in 20 months I absolutely loved it and wondered why I had been changing gears manually all these years. Therefore I went for DSG in my Mk3 vRS TSi. If I am in 'enthusiastic' mode I use the paddles - the best of both worlds! As far as fuel consumption goes, on my 20 miles each way commute I am regularly getting 42 mpg and when driven for fun about 36 mpg.
  16. Mine came with Potenzas but after one was damaged by road debris last week I have started the change over to Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics - much better and quieter!
  17. To the best of my knowledge the estate one is a different shape.
  18. I had all the kit, but was I prepared to take the personal risk to change it in that location? No. When I phoned the AA I advised them of the location and hazard and suggested it may need to be moved it to a place of safety. They obviously decided not to so it was their call.
  19. When I changed to my Mk3 I contemplated selling my old Neptune 18" spare from my Mk2. I decided to keep it for the new one, bought the jack etc. and put it in the boot last weekend. Long story short, on the M5 yesterday afternoon the TPMS warned me of an o/s/r deflation so I slowed down and parked up on the hard shoulder and as I did so the tyre blew. Sure enough a flat tyre with the sort of damage that the standard 'foam and pump' wouldn't fix. Coincidentally, there was a Royal Mail lorry with a o/s/f puncture also on the hard shoulder so I used him as 'cover' whilst waiting for the AA. Must have been something on the road surface. Lessons learned: 1) Get a spare wheel even if it's a space saver; 2) Set up the TPMS properly and take notice of it when it alerts; and 3) Quality roadside assistance is worthwhile - the AA man was a hero, there's no way I would have risked changing a tyre where he did! New tyre needed which is a pain as there was 6mm of tread on the Potenza but the process of changing to Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics has started.
  20. Having changed to a Mk3 Octavia (and tidied up the garage) I now have the following items surplus to requirements and thought I would give fellow Briskodians first refusal before they go on ebay: Genuine Skoda dog guard for MK2 Octavia hatch, hardly used - £60; Genuine Skoda rubber boot liner for Mk2 Octavia hatch, good condition - £30; Genuine Skoda tool kit, jack etc. & foam insert for spare wheel well, unused - £30; Genuine VW Golf front rubber mats which are a perfect fit for the Mk2 Octavia - £15; ......and for anyone who can make use of them, a pair of 15 inch BBS alloys from a BMW E30 which will fit other BMs of 1980s vintage. In need of a refurb but otherwise okay - £50 for the pair. IMPORTANT: Buyer(s) to collect as the above items are either large or heavy and the cost of postage or courier is ridiculous these days!
  21. Bought my vRS (ex-Skoda UK) with 5.5k miles on the Bridgestone Potenzas. I had a Hunter alignment check and all wheels were within tolerance. I had them matched in the middle of the range just for peace of mind. To be honest, this is something that I have done as soon as I have bought my last few cars - Skoda or otherwise. I just look on it as part of the cost of getting the car. On two occasions I have got the dealer to pay for the alignment as a 'sweetener' for the deal!
  22. Mine came fitted with the Potenzas (2 weeks ago). Not had a chance to try them in the rain yet but I think they are noisier than the Goodyear EGPs on my Mk2 FL vRS. When they are due for replacement I will get Goodyear Eagle F1s.
