  1. Thanks to SlavishSpace for the PM and link of the how to guide: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/169744-not-so-big-brake-kit-porsche-brembo-4-pot-callipers-on-vrs/
  2. I have heard a few people mention that a good upgrade is to fit Brembo callipers to the front. I've seen on the electronic bay that numerous folks mention VAG when listing Porsche boxster calipers etc. Can someone please advise me what to look for and what involved in fitting the callipers? Ideally I'd like to keep the standard diameter of disc on the front. Are these Boxster front or rear calipers size? Cheers
  3. I can 100% definitively confirm not all FLs come with sensors. Mine didn't, my mates hasn't, none of the three at work have!!!
  4. Having had both, those vredesteins are better all round, and cheaper.
  5. I bought these a couple of months ago to fit to my motor (the car that is, not genuinely the motor!!) and before I got chance to fit them I purchased a pair of bi-xenon light units. So, these are no for sale. 1 pair of 4300k H7 kit, metal base bulbs with mini ballasts - £25 including p&p. These were £28.99 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H7-Xenon-Conversion-Kit-metal-base-bulbs-mini-ballasts-/270591725356?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f00860f2c 1 pair of 4300k H1 kit, with super mini ballasts - £26 including p&p. These were £29.99 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H1-Xenon-HID-Conversion-Kit-Super-Mini-Ballasts-UK-/330380921630?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4cec3ccb1e Payment via paypal sent as gift / family etc, or you pay the fees. I'll do both for £50 posted.
  6. I've got Ultrac Vortis on mine and have had them on for around 4000 miles now. Although I'm not in the habit of curbing it on a regular basis I did curb it the other day exiting a roundabout with a 6" curb at around 40mph. On inspection there is no damage to the tyre or the wheel at all. Very impressed. I'm also extremely impressed with the Vortis. I driven over 20,000 miles on Eagle F1 Assy 1's and 2's and can honestly say these Vortis are better in every aspect of driving and price. They are outstanding. Here's some pics. Please excuse the state of my wheels, I've just returned from a 300 miles round trip!!!!
  7. Standby. Back in a min with some pics!!
  8. IMHO the CR is the better car and certainly more modern engine. Good / Bad points; Not too sure really, not found anything particularly bad with either. What did they have standard on the vrs I've seen some say they have aux plug but on some pics I can't see it?! - The Aux plug is in the central console on my FL. And did most the vrs come with parking sensors or xenon lamps? - No. From what I've seen very few came with parking or xenon. You can retrofit parking sensors for under £100 and it's quite a simple and neat job. Xenons are a whole can of worms. Genuine xenon projectors will cost you a good few pounds to retro-fit so it's well worth trying to find one with them fitted as standard. Can satnav be fittind if they don't have one? And did the vrs come with Bluetooth? - Sat Nav can be fitted through the Columbus stereo unit. you can get hold of a good unit for between £300 and £500 used. Quite simple to fit and you can always sell the bolero stereo for about £200. The vRS Bluetooth was an optional extra and there are a good few cars out there fitted with it. The other cheaper option would be to fit a Bury or Parrot Bluetooth handsfree system. Both are neat and tidy and available for around £150 fitted. To retro-fit the genuine Bluetooth is an expensive job. Also some I have looked at have different setups of climate control!!?! Some have the knobs u turn and the others looks like little green lights any one know the difference, - Knobs are for Air-conditioning, buttons / green lights are for climate control. The FL generally came with climate whereas the AC / knobs are usually found on older models (I think)
  9. Edited re code - I have found it so no problems at all. Cheers.
  10. I've just upgraded to a Columbus system so am selling the original bolero from my Octavia. It has been removed from a 2010 vRS and is in great condition. The screen has no dead pixels and is free from any scratches etc. Also includes the original instruction book. Including the code for unlocking. £180 including p&p. Payment via paypal sent as family or you pay the fees. Part number SK-1Z0 035 156 F
  11. No I can't say I've ever heard of that. The offence would have been exceeding the national speed limit on a dual carriageway. It doesn't really matter as to what speed you are doing, it is still the same offence no matter what. However, the severity of the punishment will change the faster you are going. It is highly unlikely that the panda car was fitted with a speed detection device such as VASCAR or Provida but not unheard of. We used to have a camera and distance over time device in one of our pandas. I've certainly never heard of a punishment being more severe or lighter due to a single occupant of the vehicle. Obviously if there are 7 people in a 5 seater then things will change but never for one. And as for the speed I can only assume that the panda was showing between 90 and 99 on their speedo and probably a lot less on yours. Nearly all "traffic" cars have calibrated speedos but no pandas do that I know of. Usual procedure would be that after the two bobbies have reported you they would go and time the car over a measured mile, at a constant speed using a calibrated stop-watch. This would be to prove that the speedo was accurate within a certain tolerance. However, not many bobbies would be bothered. In fact, not many bobbies would be bothered to pull you over in the first place. They're usually too busy or too afraid of traffic law.
  12. If Scotland leave the UK and go independent will there be a new Union Jack?
  13. What tyres did you put on? When I bought my 330d BMW a few years back it came with some brand new Fullrun hp199 on the rear. After 20 miles of driving I took the car back to the dealer as I was convinced the diff was shot. It sounded like a straight cut gearbox from a 1990's BTCC car. They checked the diff and nothing wrong with that but still a terrible whining noise. To cut the story short, it was the tyres.
  14. As a rough idea, stick your car in top gear and then take it to 50% of the redline, check the speed and it should be half of what it would be on the redline.
  15. It was nowhere near the redline in top, only pulling around 4000rpm and it revs out at 5000. I'm under no illusions that it'll not pull through the the redline as that would be around 175mph!!!! In theory a remap will give it 40hp or so extra but at 140mph 40hp won't go very far at all, maybe an extra 5mph or so.
  16. My old M3 came with a cherished transfer on it that was H16 ABE. It meant nothing to me and a guy bought it for £1700 and turned it into "HI BABE"! The best two I've ever seen have both been in Nottingham though, M5 BMW on an M5 and D14 BLO on a blue Lamborghini Diablo
  17. I've just returned from the French Alps and as I was travelling through the night I took a slight detour through Germany. On a stretch between Stuttgart and Karlsruhe I had my 2010 Octvia vRS tdi CR absolutely flat out. There was only me in it and one suitcase and on a full throttle run for around 10 miles it max'd out at 142mph on the dial, showing 139mph on the sat nav. I'm intrigued as to what it would do with a remap. What's yours good for? Incidently, even at 142mph I was getting overtaken by almost everything on the road!!!!
  18. Answered my own question with a bit of searching. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/185452-satnav-antenna/
  19. I am currently looking at removing my Bolero unit and fitting a Columbus. Out of interest where is the best place to mount a GPS antenna? Where is the factory fit one fitted? Cheers
  20. OK then, I've glanced over the thread and there are loads of urban myths running wild here. Firstly, to the OP I assume your "friend" realises the only reason he got stopped is because he was exceeding the national speed limit, which in the UK is 70mph for a car on a motorway. If the officer told him that he was doing 104mph then chances are the speedo was well past 110mph as they "usually" read high. Anyway, as the powers of the officer are dictated by the crown, he/she will have formed the opinion that your "friend" was exceeding the speed limit and then he will have used the hand held laser device to corroborate his opinion. Contrary to popular belief the officer doesn't need to be double crewed, he also doesn't need to have the opinion corroborated by evidence, it can purely be on the officers honest belief that your friend was exceeding that speed limit (England and Wales) I believe in Scotland opinion must be corroborated by another. Anyway, also contrary to belief the police DO NOT prosecute people. Police gather evidence for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and they then decide if there is enough evidence to gain a successful prosecution. Officers no longer issue tickets, they issue Traffic Offence Reports (TORs). If you get stopped doing 40 in a 30, the officer will report you and the Central ticket office will decide whether to summons you to the court, issue a fine (with the option of going to court if you genuinely think you are not guilty / fancy your chances), offer you a speed seminar or other similar seminar or verbal / written advice. The association of chief police officers (ACPO) have set out certain guidelines relating to what the officer should do at certain speeds but the officer will always have discretion. 10% + 2mph used to be the guidelines for issuing a ticket. ie 79mph on a motorway, in a car. Those guidelines dictated that the officer "could" issue a ticket for anything up to 96mph, 97mph and above meant you were reported for summons to court. It is true that the officer is required to give you a notice of intended prosecution. If for argument sake you had been caught by a camera then the NIP must be sent to the registered keeper within 14 days from the day of the offense, it doesn't have to reach you in that time. As in this case the officer has stopped your "friend" he will have given your friend a verbal NIP. There is wording for that but stated cases have proved that it does not need to be verbatim, the fact he has told your friend he will be reported is enough for your friend to realise that something is likely to happen with it. To quash a HUGE urban myth, the officer does not have to show you when the device was calibrated or when it is next due. If you don't believe him then he will produce that evidence in court, not at the roadside. However, rest assured, the officer will have checked that device for range and alignment at the start of his shift, and he WILL check it again at the end of the shift. But remember, the machine is only corroborating his opinion that you were speeding, he is not using it solely as evidence. As there were two of them they could both attend court and give evidence on their opinion that your friend was speeding. Also remember that they do that for a living and are pretty bloody good a judging speeds!!!! So, back to your friend. The best advice I can give is: If you friend was genuinely speeding then plead guilty at the first available opportunity. write a letter to accompany the guilty plea stating what he does for a job and how much he needs his licence. The courts aren't in the trade of taking away folk's licences knowing it'll also lose their job. The downside for him is the lack of time he has had his licence. So, chances are they will give him a min of 5 points and a big fine. The worst thing you can possibly do with any speeding ticket is try to fabricate a story, likewise for the majority of traffic offences. If you ever get an NIP from a speed camera NEVER reply saying someone else was driving. If they have photographic evidence of the driver and prove you wrong then you are not looking at a non criminal speeding fine anymore, you will be looking at a charge of perverting the course of justice and that is a criminal record and potentially a stretch in prison. There are sneaky coppers out there, there are jobsworth coppers out there (the same as any trade or business), but most I have ever met are just everyday guys and girls with common sense. A few will probably guess what I do for a living but if you need any further just PM me.
  21. Vredestein Ultrac Vorti on a vrs. Tyres are all about personal choice but I've driven over 40,000 miles in vRS's on eagle f1 assy 1's and 2's, I didn't think a tyre could get any better for doing everything very well, but I can honestly say the vorti's are a better tyre in every aspect. Have a look at tyrereviews.co.uk and see for yourself.
  22. Changed my xenons back to 5000k 35w from 5000k 55w Changed fuel filter Changed the timing on the leaving / coming home lights.
  23. I know it's an old thread but PM sent
  24. I bought a spare key form Westgate earlier in the week. Very reasonably priced and the service I got was exceptional. When I took the car in for coding the service receptionist greeted me by may name, even though it was a week since I booked it in. Got a decent coffee and they were spot on. Got a call the next day to ask if everything was ok etc. I cannot fault them at all. I usually do all my own servicing but am seriously considering using them in the future.
