  1. mmmm.... Okay so whilst on the subject, whats the best scotch guard, glass shinerupper and bodywork wax/polish/whatever.....preferably that I can get from Halfords
  2. Because it can be 2-3 k cheaper, dont have to run it in, has probably had any teething niggles sorted and you can generally find one that has the extras you want (unless you want a built in kettle) - not all are ragged at all. Plus spend your extra cash on a 5star break in New York - like I did
  3. ahaaa.. ! the secret! Yes - What a shock to go to a diesel! I went from a 200bhp rover turbo to a diesel ocravia and couldnt understand how to get any performance in the first week. My advice though (after 4 years of ownership) is as follows: Keep your drivers window down an inch or so whilst getting used to it, that way youll hear your turbo whizzing in. 1. Get out of first ASAP - 2. Get out of second ASAP 3. Utilise 3rd and 4th by keeping foot gradually pressing as the turbo spins (you'll hear the thing whizzing) As you get used to it you will feel the torque band through your foot and can feel when it seems to drop off - this is where you want to change up... I dont recommend planting your foot like you do in a petrol as you will just get lag - - much better to press foot gradually - like I say you can feel the power through your foot....This will get your economy up! Basically the more your foot is planted, the more fuel you use... but with diesels you dont need your foot planted to get lots of power and torque.. So a gradual press is good advice.feeling the power band. 4. Have a play with your car and recognize which revs are better for which gears...I was using 3rd to overtake and revving it lots but one day I realised a 4th seemed as quick as I didnt need change up... 4. Keep tyre pressures up to spec to reduce resistance. When your not in a fuel economy mood: 5., try a powershift which is basically keeping your foot on the throttle as you release the clutch - it will pelt you forward and keep on the power. (at your own risk - but dont hold me responsible when your clutch goes!) Ok thats my advice - good luck !
  4. Why dont you get a used one? There are some cracking ones on SkodaUK Used Cars... There are many VRS's which will have all that kit and much more for 2 or 3K cheaper with maybe 3-4000 miles on the clock. Just an idea! . A friend bought one from buyacar.com and got a grand or so off the dealer price too. I just ordered my nearly new one from a dealer with lots of extras - sunroof xenons maxidot jumbo pack bluetooth phone and got a good deal.... My dealer tried to get me to take skoda finance hire purchase - they make a lot of commission on that which is why im guessing you got the hard sell - it sucks. So I got the trusty bank loan.. Its a shame they dont make this one though: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_6QDgIabT-gQ/Rg_CE1xYfeI/AAAAAAAAAbs/tdlj1W61FRE/s1600-h/skoda.1.jpg
  5. Anyone driven one? I'm thinking it has a lot less torque than a 170PD Octy but the figures are impressive but wouldnt have to put up with spanners in a bag when I turn the key syndrome.
  6. Well Ive searched the forum for at least 3 seconds and cant find any other FAMOUS SKODA OWNERS threads so here goes..... Robert Kubica Buys Jan Kopecky's Skoda Fabia Rally Car - autoevolution Number 1: Robert Kubica! (please provide evidence where possible!)
  7. Couple of good ones Few in Bath area BI9 TOY was the best on nice Range Rover Also DC 10 on a Merc SL - and M12 BEN. not sure about this but it was something very similar on a Yellow TT "V12OOM" SKO4 VRS was a good one on a red fabia I nearly bought - someone on here probably owns it now! and also "JO 77" came my way once on a car I was offered - would be quite expensive now I guess.... Good luck
  8. Sounds like Kwik fit territory of old....Went in there and got a similar answer - never been back since....
  9. yeah me too! Thanks for all your replies, £200 quid is a lot of money for something out of a bottle that you cant drink. The way the dealer tried to sell it eg "Will protect your paintwork guaranteed for 4 years" , I thought it was something almost like a hardener that would prevent stone chips etc which would have been a very worthwhile investment. I think like yourself I will give it a miss and go for scotchguard and high gloss polish from chavlfords. Incidentally - did your dealer give you the hard sell on gap insurance, metal mate and Tyre insurance... mine was like a stuck record..... Im thinking of getting gap insurance from Car2Cover.co.uk which was more than half what dealer quoted. :P
  10. Yes your right, did start 2 identical threads.... Reason.... Needed a quick answer.... because the garage im buying my new Octavia from want to know by tomorrow morning if I want Smart guard! Then it will be ready to pick up on Thursday evening..... Unfortunately I still am not clear about what Smart guard is as the info is not clear! The car is an ex demo and I have a feeling it already has some stone protection as I remember seeing a film on the rear dog leg area .....either way, still debating whether its worth 200 quideroonies.
  11. Isnt it amazing how people used to think Skodas were unreliable crappy cars that broke down a lot.... Growing up, my Dad had 4 Estelles....120L, 105S, 120LSE,120L 5..... I was on a forum the day when some guy wrote "Skodas are volkswagen these days - much more reliable than the heeps of **** they were in the 80's....." Welll what a load of Tosh..... I remember the 120LSE letting us down once when it stalled and wouldnt start in about 89 but apart from that we had 20 years of reliable motoring..... Shame people are hung up on image rather than the facts.
  12. White - has been good as its kinda retro RS escortish (they were always white in my eyes)........ I think its had its day now, reached popularity on GTI's Audi TT's sciroccos for past 2 years and now somehow doesnt look "as cool" anymore..... I think Black always looks devilish especially with neptune alloys - Race Blue is a bit sheepy....ie it does look amazing but then so do the other thousands of race blue ones Shame we cant get a tahiti blue which is darker and deeper than race blue.....used to have it on a rover tomcat and it was gorgeous.... Anyway -- Black it is!
  13. Yep agree with that, but silver keeps cleaner - you could have a yellow one! (apologies to the banana brigade)
  14. Smart guard is offered by my skoda dealer on a newish car im purchasing.... Is smartguard a film or is it a liquid or is it magic dust or something.... The dealer didnt explain but I need the answer quick as im picking up the car on Thursday! Help!
  15. So, is Smartguard a liquid or is it a a seethrough plastic film? any ideas - If it stops stone chips on bonnet then that might be a good thing maybe.... mmmmmmm.......
  16. What is Smart Guard? Just been offered it for the sum of about 200 quid by dealer on a nearly new car ---- What is it ? Anyone had it? is it worth the cash -??? £200 goes a long way for me - thats my spends for a couple of weeks. Cheers
  17. Excellent Work Now can someone do one for a Mk II vrs too - Diesel and Petrol please!
  18. hello Will MK1 octavia 1.9 tdi K and N fit into a 2.0 VRS PD tdi? anyone got the answer please! Thanks - Would have posted in tech but wouldnt allow me too.
  19. Well, It makes a difference (In my Opinion) on the 1.9tdi - When I put it on, it made a nicer intake sound, if thats possible on a diesel, and seemed to free it up a little - just my opinion though - not based on tests or anything... Apparently the gain is likely to be only 1 or 2 horsepower if any! but a lot better if you free up the exhaust as well.... However, looking at it economically it cost me £30 and lasted 4 years which is good money well spent. So does anyone know will the Mk1 1.9tdi panel filter fit in the Mk2 PD VRS? ta
  20. Hello all, I tried putting this in ask a tech but it wouldnt let me post!????? so apologies... Just want to know, will K and N panel filter from a 1.9tdi octy mk1 fit into an OCTY Mk2 Tdi PD VRS or do I need to buy a new one? Thanks in advance as always....
  21. I had this dilemma too. I went for VRS. Reasons, Found cabin seemed really small in the SEAT and A pillars intruded too much for my liking - in the end wanted the practicality of the OCTY
  22. Apologies if this has been posted but if not, have a look - quite interesting reading... I found it and thought twas good to share! http://www.skoda.co.uk/pdf/emergency%20services%20190509.pdf
  23. Totally agree - Progress Skoda are a good set of guys.
  24. Yep, seconded Perhaps if Skoda UK took a note from Briskoda, they would reply to my emails I send them so I might just buy another skoda rather than jump ship. Glad to hear you had fun round Silverstone and welcome M8. I am excited about joining the VRS club too - my ship is almost docked.
  25. Okay, first off, im not that mechanically minded so forgive me! Diesel mondeo 2 litre tdci - apparently has 400nm torque - whereas VRS TDI has 350nm of torque - BMW 520d has about 350nm torque too! Question - how does the mondeo compare in terms of ooomph! and just wondering - anyone driven the 520d and is it underpowered? cheers! These are my 3 choices for my new car! - I love the old skoda, but looking for a bit more luxuriousness and okay performance too.
