  1. When you wash the car, dont use a rag to do the exhaust pipes when the engine is running, (like I did) if you block the gas from coming out for even a second, this will cause the exhaust management light to come on because it thinks its clogged up. On the same note, just had mine come on for third time deiving 30 miles a day. Each time, I drive the car at 1500 revs in 5th about 50mph on a nice long road and it usually clears but a pain in the arse... maybe should have got the beamer 320d now....
  2. Okay so here goes, The wife is trading in her 1998 R reg 1.8iS Mx5 in racing green for an audi convertible and is getting £1800 from the garage. The thing is - I love that little car and whilst the wheel arches are rusting a bit that car has been the most reliable thing ive ever known and it is lovely to go out for a spin in it with the roof down - its only done 58,000 miles! I keep thinking to myself Im going to miss the thing because I also have a VRS octavia tdi and great as that is, you cant beat an open top little sports car! (even if yes you do look like a hairdresser but the fun outweighs that) I can give her £1800 no probs, and have it as second car but then I will have 2 MOT's 2 insurances, 2 tax discs 2 service bills etc - what do you thnk? keep it or let her trade it in....? she will get the audi regardless so just wondrin whether to be a 3 car family or not
  3. Great Advice, Mine has just done the same on a run up the A5. Stopped as soon as I could, checked for leaks but nothing and engine temperature fine. I also checked the fuses under the bonnet as the Manual says. There was one fuse that had popped up out of its housing which isnt a surprise as the council do not fill any of our pot holes here its nuts...... anyway put that back and its okay. for now. I will do the pins as well asap as we just had cold spell. Cheers.
  4. Wheres my car pic gone?

  5. I always used to go for Michelins Pilot Primacys but have to say my current Dunlops seem to be much better in the snow and feel more assured.
  6. Yep thats right - kinda sounds like a microwave that has just finished cooking a pasty.
  7. I have just found some VAG 507000 oil - it was in the garage but has what seems like a best before date on it which says 2006.... It is castrol 5w 30 and Im hopin to use it in my VW PD engine.. It is completely unopened.... So, question is, is it okay to use it?? as I say its never been opened? cheers
  8. I just got a tray massive tray of veg's from the sunday market for my sunday roast - 1 cabbage, 5 parsnips, brocolli sprouts carrotts and big potatoes....1 quid! bargain! Got home then realised I had no mint sauce so had to go out again!
  9. Okay I here you and can relate to it. About 2 years ago I was coming round a bend on the way to work - it was the same bend I always go round and was doing about 15 - 20 as its about 70 degres. Same as you the back end just let go and I ended up snaking over to the other side of the road - luckily nothing coming which was a miracle. I wondered what had happened.... Turns out the road was covered in diesel from a lorry that was leaking....I wonder if that is what it was? Also you might want to check your inside and outer edge tread on the rears... if you havent already...
  10. Please could someone point me towards a tech guide for mending rear air vents on an Octavia 2.... I have the housing pulled out in my living room... What I need to know is how to open it up and/or how to re-sit the flap on the front as looks like it is pushed in and has come away from its hole....and is out of sync with others. Cheers - I did try searching but didnt find anything. Thankyou
  11. We had a tangerine skoda in 1979, Please god dont bring that back!
  12. I think you have done a great job Colin.....This site is has helped time and time again.
  13. I feel for you mate - its a shame you cant track them down... You know the problem is you never had one of these fitted:
  14. I can't comment on servicing yet, but I liked the guys at Jewsons. I dealt with Sam and Paul. They were really patient with me when I bought my car. I spent about 3 hours in there going over options, had a great test-drive with Sam who gave me plenty of time and cups of coffee to consider things and I felt well looked after. The guys are great if you tell them exactly what you want and what you can afford. It's not a slick place with young guys in smart suits just out for commission but is a bit more of a family firm type atmosphere. So if you are buying a new/used car in my experience they were good.
  15. Yep, its a shame the dealer network has a few terrible ones! Good luck with your Superb.... Its a cracking car and you wont be disapointed!
  16. Just playing around with what I'm led to believe is a royalty free image of a Superb VRS... Note to Mods - please feel free to remove this post if I'm in violation of anything - I dont think I am! heres the link: superb vrs on Flickr - Photo Sharing! and with LE gold wheels! http://www.flickr.com/photos/42847247@N07/3949133630/ Im not an artist - so dont flame me, but just wanted an idea of what one might look like and had 10 mins to spare.....
  17. oooh - you have fairy lights in the front valance too......! Looks dashing in white.
  18. Took a ride in a Laguna before getting my new Octavia. Wasn't very impressed with it as it seemed to not have much poke when pulling away. In truth, it was just a bit dull, and all my mates said DONT BUY FRENCH - you'll regret it. This was also seconded by a neighbour who owns a Citroen C4 diesel that died a week or so after the warranty ran out... You really cant go wrong with the Superb - Every review I have seen has been really positive... The 170 is a very good engine with plenty of pull to put a smile on your face and the interior is excellent. The superb also won Autocar - best family car 2009 and is very convincing..... Skoda Superb | New Car Awards 2009 | Car Reviews | Auto Express So go with the Superb! or if you still have doubts also try the Mondeo, Insignia and Mazda 6 to get a full perspective Good luck M8
  19. Yep stripes are good: But depends on the racing pedigree/colours. Fiestas and RS's look okay with stripes because the the Ford Racing Heritage. Same as Fiat Abarths. Whereas my neighbours dodgy corsa 1.2 doesnt quite hit the mark....
  20. I hope not, I dread to think what would happen if anyone fell on it. Is it like those Boudica chariots - ie sticking out from the hub?
  21. When I was a kid my Dad had 4 Estelles.....120LSE's and so on.... I really loved them as did he... Regardless what others said about Skodas being unreliable - they never let us down....and were great.. Unfortunately, I went to a posh school (not my fault) and went through years of hell with so called friends ripping the p*** out of me for my Dad having skodas - kids can be really nasty - skoda jokes all the time and especially when your Dad is the only skoda owner amongst a sea of BMW's and Mercs....quite nasty at times. Didn't do the confidence much good at the time and used to make my Dad drop me off up the road - which I regret now. Now I'm a good deal older/wiser I couldnt care less, I could have chosen a 5 series or a Merc but went for a Octavia II VRS ... I love it, its a good looking capable car that people look at and think " is that really a skoda?" So I suppose what Im trying to say is Skoda owners have an inner confidence.... We dont need a "so called" flash car to inflate our social status...
  22. This is a weird one... On the Mark 1 Octavia I put in Halfords Extreme Brilliance H4's which were great, very white and a blue glow to them too..... So now I have the Mark 2 - I decide to put in Extreme Brilliance H1s main beam because I like the white and blue glow.... what happens - the things are yellow.... Very strange as was looking forward to white/blue glowlights to go with my Xenons. Anyone else notice this? Maybe Its the bright white of the xenons that makes them look so yellow....no idea....
  23. OMG - Dukes of Hazzard in a VRS - better paint it orange now...... ....and I thought it was somekind of vibrating lady seat....
