  1. i've been using disposible earplugs on mine (might be a 125 maxi scooter, but the previous owner stuck an annoying loud exhaust on it as he wanted to be heard by traffic!) https://sites.google.com/site/earplugsbypost/home i just keep buying the testpacks they do, 20 different pairs for a tenner, not found anything i really like yet, but thrown a few useless ones in the bin
  2. i'm on a piaggio x8 125 with the full 15bhp (feel the power!!) it'll do over 70 on the flat (according to the speedo more like 65+) and the bit of motorway i need to use is a 50 limit anyway! the L plates are now in the bin!
  3. Just pulled my L plates off my scooter for the morning! I can now cut 5 mins off my time to get in and out of work by being able to use 200 yards of motorway
  4. Mod 2 . . . . . . . . . . . Passed!
  5. commuting most of the time (15 miles, mix of 30/40 limits and dual carriageway), and the odd ride out over a weekend or when its nice! i like the idea of the mt07 tracer, but there isnt any within 50 miles of me for sale! test is on tuesday, so hopefully get test passed, and then go test ride as many as possible before buying
  6. your right, it isnt the adventure type i was thinking off, but different things catch my eye on different days. As i think i said in my first post, no 100% exactly what i want!! knowing me i could end up on something totally left field! i keep thinking about the NC750, but people seem to describe them as dull (not saying thats a bad thing), and i dunno weather to go for something less powerfull as a first bike and be sensible for 12 months, or go with something a bit more like what i have been learning on (CB600F, hornet i think) and learn to use it.
  7. what are peoples thoughts on the Honda CB650f? https://www.newcastlemotorcycles.co.uk/used-bikes-c4/honda-cb-650f-p39389 cheers
  8. cleaned my scooter and was horrified at the state of some bits. Then again, it hasnt been cleaned all winter, despite my commuting everyday! Had a lesson for my mod2 and remembered how to ride a bike after my lesson last week was a nightmare. bought the new gloves out again as it warming up a little!
  9. as the wife is allergic to nuts i'd rather not be buying peanut oil, any other good alternatives?
  10. bit of advice for some detailing/cleaning. the black plastics around the dash on my bike are looking really bad at the mo, with some going white. is the heat gun and boiled linseed oil the best way to bring them back up, or is back to black the better way. cheers
  11. thought the superb was based on the octavia platform, which is based on a golf?
  12. whats wrong with the ride. no matter what the rating of the tyres are, on 16's it should be like a magic carpet
  13. well thats some new metal clips bought (thanks for the reminder, 1 or 2 are missing already, and i broke one yesterday. 6 tins of spray adhesive for the carpet/MDF build bought, as i have used 1 already! for the B Pillar trim, i tried to pull it away at the bottom, but looking behind it, it looks like the is a locating pin that faces down and drops into a hole in a metal hanger or something. thats why i assumed that i needed to take the upper carpeted trim off first before lifting that piece up to remove it. have you got a link to skodas guide so i can have a better look. thanks
  14. bought myself some summer gloves on saturday, wore them for my lesson on sunday and got my winter gloves out again this morning! if the forecast is to be believed, i'll be getting my thermal liner out again for tuesday / wednesday
  15. does anyone have any instruction, or link on how to remove the interior of a superb? i need to remove the front seats (undo the 4 bolts, unplug any cables after disconnecting the battery i assume), although the capitive nuts being loose makes me worried i also need to remove the "B" pillar trim, and the trim along the bottom of the door opening. I had a play on Sunday trying to remove these, but it looks like i need to remove the trim at the top of the "B" Pillar in order to remove the bottom trim, but i cant see how the top trim comes away. I found the screw hiding behind the airbag logo, but it still dosent want to come off, and i dont want to use too much brute force (yet). if anyone knows how to remove the bonnet release handle, i'd love to know. in case your wondering, its to fit some audio in the car, so 0 guage power cable down the passenger side, and 3 pairs of RCA cables, plus speaker cable down the driver side. Thanks!
  16. Its not going to go off road, i just like the look of the adventure styled stuff, and also i prefer to be sat upright rather than bent over (am not really that flexible, and the Honda CB600F i'm learning on has a habit of making my wrists ache as it is), my current scooter (Piaggio x8 125) has me sat very upright, which i quite like, and also makes the visibility for me, and for other to see me quite good. I have seen a few BMW 650's around, but i havent really looked into them to be honest so i'll add them to the list, i also quite like the look of the triumph tiger 1050, but i think that can wait for a year or two before i go there! One option is still a larger scooter (i like the luggage space for work stuff and gym kits etc) but having learnt gears, i'd rather carry on with them, and it's nice playing with gears rather than both the car and my bike being automatic.
  17. If those fit, would it be a fair guess to say that 245/30/20's would fit as well then, or would that be depending on the width and ET of the rim?
  18. maybe its just me reading other peoples insurance and wondering why i cant insure something for £80! Anyone for any suggestions on bikes to look for, its going to be used 95% of the time for commuting (dual carriage way and 30/40 limits, nothing interesting), and maybe the odd trip out to the countryside. I kinda like the adventure bike look, but i havent tried anything yet, so if someones got any ideas for a good first bike i'm all ears. I quite like the look of thing's like the Honda NC700/750 and the CB500x, and some of the 650 adventure bikes like the vstrom. What are dealers policy's on test rides, i dont really fancy buying something without some sort of ride before hand. I dont fancy shelling out money and not liking something before i even get it home. cheers
  19. I Live in sunderland, so not exactly one of the best areas, and yes, i was going for Fully Comp, and i'm (not wanting to admit) that i'm 40 this year. At the mo, a 250/300 scooter seems like a better idea :(
  20. Passed my MOD1 on Wednesday and have my MOD 2 booked for 3 weeks time. So i have been scouring places for something to get if i pass, and thought i better put some ideas through the insurance wringer to see if the insurance quotes are sensible. stuck a Honda NC750SA through the wringer and got a quote of £750 for 10,000 miles a year (i'm commuting to work) parked in my back yard. i managed to bring that down quite a bit by saying it was parked in a garage (£600) but that still seemed high to me. Am i being a bit optimistic about what sort of bike i'm buying, or is anything going to cost me a fortune to insure for the first year or 2? Cheers
  21. nice, love seeing different wheels on a superb estate. i keep thinking some bentley 20" rims would looks good
  22. As you say, its 6 quid, so bought one to try. does anyone know of a similar adapter that would fit a factory DAB aerial to the kenwood, so you dont have to use the screen aerial that comes with it?
  23. can anyone confirm this? would love to use the inbuilt GPS rather than the sticky one that comes with the system. To be honest, its a shame that a head unit costing a grand had to use so many adaptors and stuff rather than just connecting directly to the quadlock and aerials the car has in it. If a £150 amazon special can do it, why cant kenwood?
  24. what are your thoughts on the honda? Its one of the bikes i have been thinking about after i get my test passed, the position, and the extra storage would be very usefull to me. thanks
  25. Congratulations! I'm waiting for a test appointment, the local test centre dosent have any free dates until the middle of May :(
