Well, Skoda's motto is "simply clever".

It makes some sense to change the pump at the same time as the belt due to its relationship with the belt even if its given no trouble There's no guarantee that the new pump won't fail prematurely.

In the UK, Skoda recommend a belt change every 5 years, so the water is changed then. I believe that if the car has the silikat bag it extends the working life of the water way beyond 5 years.

For the TDI's it would be until the timing belt was changed.

Seems like engine oil as you have to top up more often. Oil is thinner after a run making it easier to leak from somewhere.

The steering is electric, no fluid reservoir.

Well, it wouldn't work at all first thing but at the end of my trip it did work and read 80%

Out of interest, would a smart charger only charge to around 80%?

The odd times I've checked the SOC using the trip set button, I've never seen more than about 70%. I'll check it in a few days time before starting the engine (not used for about 2 wks) and again after a 250 mile trip I'm planning.

My viewpoint. You've done that trip with no heavy consumers running, apart from maybe headlights and a/c. If the alternator gives you that reading under heavy load I'd expect it to be more than capable of charging the battery under a light load. As mentioned above the battery is probably on its way out.

What engine?

If you have the 3 button remote, the middle button unlocks the boot only. Don't leave the key in the boot as the lid locks as soon as you close it.

Is cold starting affected?

Unlucky. Can't remember the last time I had to replace anything to do with an exhaust system. Probably why there is no stock, no demand.

Can I ask what happened to the exhaust?

Put a tester on the wires at the pump end, operate the stalk and see if there is any reading. Test for output at the stalk end.

I would call it a false warning because the tyre is at the correct pressure. As your mechanic has checked the wiring this only leaves the sensor which as you've been told countless times is probably at fault. Get it changed for your own and passengers safety.
