  1. Seems then it's best to take off one of the terminals if charging in situ, so there's no conflict with the BMS?
  2. I'll 2nd that as my Varta is 10 yrs old.
  3. Start/stop can stop working for many reasons even with a healthy battery. You could contact a member nearest you with VCD's who could code a new battery you bought and fitted yourself. A shortish drive without coding will not do any long term damage or fit the new battery at the members location.. A link to VCD owners. https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1Td73_uUUqscV3nRm5br_o89PmBU&msa=0&ll=21.259901462991593%2C83.39240985000004&z=2
  4. But how would that affect the chargers system into thinking the battery is not fully charged when OP said it had turned itself off because it was full?
  5. My Varta battery has a manufacturing code which from the internet tells me it's 10 yrs old this month.
  6. Was everything switched off so no demands on the battery? Have you had the car from new? A previous owner could have permanently disabled it.
  7. I read in another forum, Banner batteries have the mfg date stamped on top of the negative terminal as per screenshot In this case it was mfg week 42, yr 15
  8. Can't you contact the seller and ask them to check?
  9. Have you been on a good run since changing the serial no? Can you put the battery on charge to see if it will take a full charge? If it does, stop/start should kick in depending on what consumables are on.
  10. At least you know which "specialists" to avoid in the future.
  11. Does the convenience consumers display show anything drawing power?
  12. Suggest you go to a competent auto electrician. Seems the dealer is just guessing and throwing YOUR money at the problem.
  13. Nostalgia. I had something similar with a Hillman Imp. I don't want those days back🙂
  14. But you have to let the clutch out very slowly, so you could say there is some slippage.
  15. Maybe. I'm not complaining.
  16. If it wasn't for the re-coding after fitting the new battery, it's a simple DIY I'm lucky, my original battery is 10 yrs old this month.
  17. Agree and in my case 100% trouble free. The OP has a Scout. Apart from his "off road" mode, should it behave as mine does when he selects S?
  18. You're using the gearbox exactly as I do for engine braking. For steeper hills I move the shifter left to manual mode and flick it to select which lower gear I want.
  19. Have you asked the garage about it and had the stock answer "they all do that"?
  20. Yes, 1.6 TDI. 7 speed. I've confused myself as I thought they all has the same characteristics.
  21. Mine is exactly the same, except I don't have paddles.
  22. OP is just talking about moving the shifter to the S position, not pressing the mode button. If you're slowing down then it will start dropping gears. OP say's his is not doing that, so there is a fault.
  23. Valid point. This is the 1st DSG I've had. If on the demo car I tried and it did not creep, I'd have queried it. If I'd been told "they all do that" I'd have been none the wiser and accepted it even tho I'd find it annoying. In queuing traffic, I try not to creep forward on the brakes by leaving a big enough gap to go forward on idle speed or slight throttle thereby avoiding some clutch slip. Putting the car into my narrow garage is made easy by creeping, without it it would mean using both pedals or using the handbrake, neither desirable. Auto's are for ease of driving and coupled with the start/stop and hill hold I'm more than happy. I'm also happy with my battery which is 10 yrs old this month.🎂
