  1. That's where the camera/sensor is if you've got lane departure warning fitted. The cutout is there even if you haven't got that. It's probably also for active cruise control but I don't think that was around in 2014.
  2. If you leave the wiper stalk on the first setting (intermittent) that should bring the rain sensor into play. That's how it works on my Karoq, and my previous Octavia vRS. Try it with the screen dry, then spray some water around the top centre of the screen (outside!) where the mirror housing is.
  3. In one post you say dealers should be left out of this, in another you make it very clear the dealer is liable. If they're liable, they can't be left out of it. The point about this particular car being an ex-demonstrator is that it will probably have been used and driven several times, not just driven a few yards off the transporter into the showroom. Hence is possible the faults have already manifested themselves; and if they have, the dealer will know they do exist, and in that case the dealer is deliberately concealing actual (not potential) faults. That's all I am saying. I also acknowledge that the Octavia IV generally is prone to software problems, stemming from the design, testing, and manufacturing processes, and that's where the manufacturer is responsible for supplying faulty goods to the dealers.
  4. Cheers, I've seen overnight it was used in the Leon.
  5. Being an ex-demonstrator has a lot to do with it. They've been running the car with several fairly obvious faults. is it likely none of them have occurred until Jamie82 took delivery? I don't think so. Also, whether they were apparent beforehand or not, in which case being ex-demnstrator is largely irrelevant, Jamie82's relationship is with the dealer, not Skoda UK. For instance, if you buy a washing machine from Curry's and it breaks down fairly soon (there are specified timescales) then it's Curry's liability in the first instance, not the manufacturer. Consumer Rights Act 2015.
  6. What?!?! 9.6% ??? That's a ripoff. Not even the likes of BMW and Mercedes charge that. Mercedes currently asking 6% APR on new, BMW 2.9% APR. Skoda's website is asking 4.9 % APR on Karoqs.
  7. And while we wait for news, just a reminder, this was an ex-demonstrator! Any hint as to the dealer - which direction from you on the compass is it a four hour round trip?
  8. Did we have the 1.8 engine in the UK in 2014? I've deleted all my old PDF Octavia brochures, but I'm not sure we did, so there'd be little experience of it here. I could be wrong.
  9. Yes, there are some mechanical/positional issues that make it complicated, especially the sliding seat aspect. That doesn't bother me, but I agree others will appreciate it. I do like the reclining (or, rather, uprighting) ability of the Varioflex, both for comfort for back-seat drivers passengers, and the slight increase in boot capacity. I just wish they weren't so heavy to lift out when I need to, I'm not the strongest person around!
  10. Try a free valuation on Parker's, if you know the reg. And for a few ££ you can fine tune their valuation. I've found them very accurate when the dealer's shown me their price screen.
  11. Shold be 2025. At least that's what's in my two keys, and that's what I replace them with. And welcome, by the way!
  12. Definitely this. The gap into the boot left by the armrest on the VarioFlex seats looks very low-rent. It could certainly have been engineered with a folding partition, but I suppose the bean counters said no.
  13. Just a polite reminder, since the post's a few pages back, it's only a couple of mm between success and failure with this adjustment. It's easy to go too far, and the boot locking is crucial. It was easier on my old Octy where the rubber bump stops basically screwed into the hatch. These "ratchet" stops on the Karoq are a step backwards IMO.
  14. Some 16 or 17 years back I went into my local Mercedes dealer having seen online they had half a dozen used C Class, all well within my budget. Because I'd taken an hour away from my bank office I was smartly dressed, bespoke suit and tie (open neck shirt was still not the done thing then) and was better dressed than any of the sales staff. After several minutes of being ignored one of them looked up from his computer screen, looked at me, picked his phone up, and THEN asked "Are you alright there?" "I'm looking to spend around £20k on a pre-owned C Class, and see you've a few in stock, outside on display." "You'll need to make an appointment, here's a card." Then started dialling on his phone. "I can see you're too busy, could anyone else help?" I asked, looking round. There were five other sales people. (They were all men, apart from one young woman who was with a customer.) "Dunno." "OK, well here's my card, since you gave me yours. Ask your manager to call me by close of business (I could see him in an office behind a closed door), or will I have to speak to the Managing Director in the morning?" Then I walked out. There was no phone call. Around 11 the next day I rang and spoke to the MD who was not happy when I told him about the "customer service" the day before. He called me back later having checked with the salesman and invited me to go in and look at the cars with him personally. There was no real apology. Since they'd had three chances to try for a sale - the first encounter, the lack of referral to other staff, and the non-receipt of a phone call, I told him he must be joking. I bought a Saab 9-5 2.3t a few weeks later, a much better car all round than the C. (in case anyone's wondering, there's no race element to this story. But if it had been my neighbour getting this treatment it would've made the press.)
  15. Thanks Berisford - it's obvious now you mention it!
  16. Used car prices have risen over the past few months for most makes. I bought my 1.5 SEL Karoq 14 months ago at 9 months old and 15k miles. It lost a round £3K over the autumn but has recovered around £2.5k of that!
  17. Bear in mind they're made of a type of pastic, not glass - so there'll be a lower melting point than glass!
  18. Thanks to both e-Root and TNWNA, excellent DSG information above.
  19. GM's accountants have been destroying Vauxhall since 1925.
  20. Hi, sorry, I can't help (but at least I've read your posts).
  21. Thanks e-Root, that's the most comprehensive and informative post I've seen anywhere detailing the DSG boxes across the Skoda range. It clears so much of the fog.
  22. I presume it's a manual gearbox, certain DSGs won't take much extra torque, the vRS has a different DSG from the lesser models.
