‘Characteristics’ of my Octavia
vedubber, why haven't you rejected the car? There seems to be enough there - engine surge, AC faults, park assist, tail light flicker, transmission whine, (but at high revs that's a characteristic of the 1.5 engine, most of the torque is lower down the rev range anyway) etc. But a lot you could have checked before getting it, like the lane assist (common on most new cars now), and getting in to screen menus (most car reviews complain about this across every make) Turning circle - what have you been driving? Figures from comparable size cars - Octavia 3, 10.6m, Octavia 4, 10m, Ford Focus, 10.7m VW Golf, 10m, Mercedes A Class, 11m, Mercedes C Class 11m, BMW 3 Series, 11m. And the last two have north-south engines so have more room for wheel angle. But seriously, the engine, seat and the numerous intermittent electrical faults are serious enough to warrant a fight with the dealer.

2021 Octavia VRS wind deflectors
Welcome. Loddy! Be prepared for posts asking why on earth would you want spoil the looks of your car with these - my view is I wouldn't do it, but it's your car, it's your choice.

Used, High mileage Skoda Octavia Estate VRS Estate Buy / Avoid
Spend a couple of ££ on Parker's Guide website for an accurate valuation, including mileage adjustment. I think that's a little overpriced for the mileage. I'd also look at gov.uk for the MOT history. I know it's only had two (or should have) - Jan 20 and Jan 21 - but that mileage could show a lot on the MOT records. Get close and look along the sides for panel irregularities - possible accident damage. The Black Magic Pearl is a lovely colour but should show any respray work if you look carefully. Over 30,000 miles a year, and one of those was a year of lockdown - what was it being used for?

Front assist problems please help
If it's clean like Kenny R says, get round to the dealer ASAP. If it's something simple, just plead ignorance and take the embarrassment - it could be something costly. Three months is three months.

skoda karoq
Yet another new thread with a completely useless heading, followed by the vaguest of questions which, as already pointed out, could be accurately answered elsewhere. Sorry to be disparaging of a new forum member, but, really, I ask you.

That'll be the Brexit effect! Just for info, here are two photos of my Karoq with the RGM protector in "carbon fibre effect".

That's like the people who pay Halfords to fit windscreen wipers.

Octavia Mk4 aftermarket towbar
AviationNut is that a removable swan neck, or fixed? - I suspect whichever, the cut is underneath where it can't be seen.

If you really want an aircon service there are loads of indies all over the country who'd do it for half that.

Superskoda Vs Alibaba
Don't forget the delivery cahrges from Superskoda - that'd be another tenner or so. If the Aliexpress ones last only a year, you could order three or four and still be quids in by the time you sell the car. I've bought many things from Aliexpress, somethimes they take a long time to arrive but only regretted it twice. The prices are so cheap anyway. (Putting aside any ethical issues of dealing with China.) There are also a couple of UK dealers who sell parts via Ebay, might be worth a look. Caffyns, I think, and the dealer in Sheffield sometimes through Ebay too.

Dashcam Switched Power
That's what I did with my Octavia, if the female socket is small there should be enough room. There is room at the top of the hard plastic covering where the passenger's left toes would tap against, and there's some metal framing just above there you can use for an earth for the lighter socket adapter. There certainly is on the driver's side. Use plenty of insulating tape to secure the plug and socket together. I strongly recommend looking on the Octy 3 pages, there are a couple of threads dating from a while back with lots of good info. Unfortunately I've deleted the link from my bookmarks or I'd send it. Getting the glovebox lid off and on is a faff but once done it gets easy. I THINK they're mini fuses but they're readily available on Fleabay with a short cable attached. And the Octy threads will confirm the fuse number - it's certainly in the 40s, the rear wiper fuse is the likeliest one.

1200 mile Covid Service
Yep, guessed it was either Mitchell's, Skoda Colwyn Bay, or the one in Oswestry. I only live four miles away. (Mark M would be very unhappy about your experience. Me, my OH, my best pal and his OH have had ten motors from them over the past several years, both Skoda and Mazda, and a mix of new and used, no complaints whatever. I got in at 0% finance on my Karoq last June. No connection other than as customers. They also hosted a Briskoda evening a few years back, around 40 people. They laid on test drives, freebies, a BBQ and free beer.)

Another tow bar query
Hi JohnD, I thought I'd replied to this but I seem to have missed the Submit button. You're quite right, there's so much to consider. I'd still consult at least one specialist though, if only to see if they what they know (or don't). It's one big Pandora's box of worms, that's for sure. (I have no connection to P F Jones, just had a couple of quotes for different motors which I didn't follow up for unrelated reasons.)

Another tow bar query
As others say above - give P F Jones a call to see what they say. Or do you have a local specialist you can talk to? I'd cut out going to the dealer, all they'll do is sub-contract it and add their wedge on top. I've no problem with that, it makes no sense to train someone up for very little work. Dealers just aren't set up for fitting towbars, they only get asked for a handful and won't have the expertise, whereas a specialist will keep up to date on every make. Maybe ask who your dealer uses? Any repuitable dealer will tell you - mine did for my previous Octavia. You will be looking at around £700/800 for a removable one - Westfalia are among the best. But I don't think you'll get an electrically retracting one except factory fitted. You need to find out about upratingthe cooling system/alternator etc - the Kamiq factory prep does this, but the Skoda website doesn't say what the prep for the karoq involves. Yet again, a specialist can advise.
-
Octavia Mk4 aftermarket towbar
I never knew that. I've just looked at the configurator and the Karok just mentions £190 for preparation. I thought it might've been just wiring, but on the Kamiq pages it does actually mention uprated alternator, cooling system, reprogrammed ESC and a front stabiliser bar. I supposed that's why when I was considering an ex-demo Kamiq last summer my dealer pointed out the need for it if I wanted to fit a towbar for my bike rack. I wonder if or how much of the above is fitted by aftermarket fitters, I haven't seen any reference to it by anyone? Is that why the cost is so high? I appreciate once a TB is fitted it could be used for serious towing, but is the prep needed if only putting a couple of bikes on the back?

New Karoq, first impressions and comparison
Phil245 - snap! Slightly separate note - under my door mirrors (SE-L trim, Sept 19 reg) are "puddle" lights, that gently illumate the floor/road/etc when the door is opened at night. Over on the Octy 3 forum, there was a lot of discussion a few years back about what level of trim had them, how to upgrade the bulbs, etc. I can find no mention in any Skoda material or spec pages to these on the Karoq - anyone else have or not have them?

New Karoq, first impressions and comparison
Merlinman, I guess that'd be the post-Brexit "import duty handling fee" con, or whatever it's officially called, I'd forgotten about that. That's a good point you've raised. I've heard from a friend who buys lots of cycle parts that it can be pot luck if they charge you. ( My daughter bought a dress from Australia for £25. Got hit for another £35 as it came to the UK. So far, I've never had to pay on all the stuff I've got from AliExpress.)
-
New Karoq, first impressions and comparison
Merlinman, that'd be for a pair, it's 25 euros for a single? I think the pair were a fair bit cheaper when I bought mine, around 25 euros, which was about £21 then. Plus delivery. I think I'd have baulked at paying today's prices. The boot of the Octavia was really dark with the OEM lights, but with the two new LEDs it was really bright. Again, a pity the Karoq only has one lamp that can be replaced. For those who don't have loads of odd bulbs lying around, there are several UK sellers on Ebay asking around £15 - £20 (free postage on some of them) for VW-Audi-Skoda-Porsche replacement lamps like mine. They seem to be used in cars across the VW group. I haven't dug in to see specific Karoq ones but a seller should be able to provide dimensions to check. On the Octy thread there was never any mention of CANBUS issues. I know from my days with a Saab how problematic that could be. I posted this just as the message above came in.

New Karoq, first impressions and comparison
Hi Merlinman, sorry, I've lost the details of the actual cost - and it was before the pound and euro were at par on exchange rates! I'd expect you're looking at a fiver or so - but you can get quite far with the order in Superskoda to check the final price to see added costs before committing. There might be similar and cheaper on Ebay, and I've also bought electric items from Aliexpress, like a miniature hifi amplifier. I've never had non-receipt issues there but there can be a long delivery delay.

First Stone Chip - 5 weeks old
If anyone's interested, I got a touch-up pen from here for my Crystal Black paint - https://motornuts.co.uk/colour-match-paints The middle one has the same cap and needle nib fitting as the ones you get in Halfords, they're good for very small marks where the pale undercoat is showing. I haven't bothered with clear lacquer on marks up to 3mm, leaving them for a week then plenty of decent polish. Excellent quality and worth trying at the price.
