  1. When as the last time it went to Dakar? It seems to have been based on South America for years until this one.
  2. Covid is going to wreak havoc with racing again in 2021 it seems. This amended schedule has apparently been presented to teams by new boss Domenicali. Here is the proposed 2021 calendar in full: March 28 Bahrain Grand Prix April 18 Emilia Romagna/San Marino Grand Prix, Imola May 2 Portuguese Grand Prix, Portimao May 9 Spanish Grand Prix May 23 Monaco Grand Prix June 6 Azerbaijan Grand Prix June 13 Canadian Grand Prix June 27 French Grand Prix July 4 Austrian Grand Prix July 18 British Grand Prix August 1 Hungarian Grand Prix August 29 Belgian Grand Prix September 5 Dutch Grand Prix September 12 Italian Grand Prix September 26 Singapore Grand Prix October 3 Russian Grand Prix October 10 Japanese Grand Prix October 24 United States Grand Prix October 31 Mexican Grand Prix November 7 Sao Paulo Grand Prix November 21 Australian Grand Prix December 5 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix December 12 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Australia delayed, China cancelled, Hanoi missing, Imola and Portimao back in.
  3. Albon to race for RedBull in 2021... In the new dumbed-down low-tech DTM. Wow, that's a serious demotion.
  4. First real F1 news item for the New Year. Opening race set to be postponed: 2021 F1 Australian GP set to be postponed amid COVID restrictions | F1 News | Autosport Could be back to Bahrain for the first event.
  5. Ummm no. Both of mine did this intermittently from new. The first one also had the creaky front suspension which was far more annoying, and the second has the draughty drivers door window seal. Point is, its a cheaply built car for third world markets and not really up to Western Europe quality expectations. Did I mention both needed new turbos inside the warranty period...
  6. Having the best car has always been important, but the teams with the best cars make them even faster when they can by employing the best drivers. Williams managed to win titles with relative journeymen like Rosberg, Hill and Villeneuve, but they always hired the really fast guys when available; Mansell, Piquet, Prost & Senna all drove for Frank. You have to doubt that massive multi-nationals like D-B would employ any driver if they weren't convinced that he would gain more points over a year than anybody else. Clearly they don't think Max is worth the risk yet, or they would have prised him out of his RedBull contract long ago. Other claimants to the honorary title of "best F1 driver" have not only had access to top-level cars but many have had contractually subservient team mates too. Schumacher, Fangio even, had the good cars and team mates who were not allowed to win. Hamilton by contrast was pitched in to sink or swim against double champion Alonso in his first season, and has seen off his team-mate in what is it? 12 of 14 seasons since. The top teams tell the top drivers when its time to go for the benefit of the team. Ferrari dumped Prost, Schumacher, Alonso and Vettel because they were no longer top dog. Williams binned champions Mansell & Hill. Mercedes will move Hamilton out when its his time too.
  7. Few can sustain the effort. Mika Hakkinen, for instance, won 2 titles back-to-back, then his form fell off a cliff in 2000, burned out. Many drivers could potentially win races in the Mercedes and maybe the title, but to keep on doing it is something special.
  8. You have to hope not. Some of the biggest names in Sport who've recently been knighted are badly tainted by drug scandals, although none have been un-knighted yet
  9. Hamilton Knighted in New Years Honours.
  10. Ingram out of Toyota after 7 years with Speedworks, due to Sponsorship clash. Rumour has him taking his sponsors to Hyundai, with Rory Butcher taking over as team leader at the now 2 car Toyota Gazoo Racing.
  11. Champion Ash Sutton stops the rumours of a move to WSR, announcing title defence in expanded 3 car Infiniti team
  12. Known fault Search forums or Google Resistor Pack.
  13. Haas announce that Mazepin will drive for them in 2021 despite the recent scandal, after their internal investigation in to the affair... (...found that Daddy Mazepin would chuck an extra $20 million their way no doubt) Well I dont supose he has any option now, his legal challenge to Stroll's purchase of Force India has been denied by a court in the last week or so.
  14. Shyvrs245 Truly, and also in minority sports like Motor-Racing. Cricket Rugby and Athletics seem to do better out of the honours system mind you. Although with athletics and cycling there's a bit of a whiff of cheating around some of the recent Knights.
  15. There hasn't been a post war motor racing driver knighted during his career. All 3 were long retired when they were awarded. The only active racers knighted were Segrave and Campbell (awarded for LSR achievements though). That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Hamilton is awarded...the Honours Committee seem far more egalitarian these days.
  16. Just read back through some bits of this forum. When Vettel was fired in about May this group touted Sainz + Perez as likely replacements. Now Carlos has a Ferrari and Checo a RedBull.
  17. Yahoo. He won't beat Max in qually, but he's going to be a real asset in the races. Vamos Checo!
  18. 39 year old fastest in Abu Dhabi F1 "young driver test" Young Brit driver Callum Ilott named 2021 Ferrari F1 Test Driver.
  19. Well, I had to step away from my race stream to eat a roast dinner, but nothing happened in the meantime... In fact nothing happened all afternoon. Congratulations RedBull but otherwise, what a non-event. Its never been a track that promotes good racing, but it does attract money - just like Monaco.
  20. Not convnced those 3 make for an exciting race around this track. McLaren Vs Racing Point might be what with Perez coming from the back with a fresh engine and tyres
  21. I get all logos from here: Heart 70s - logo for VW Infotainment car radio (media.info) I put them on an SD card. Put it in the spare slot - my Amundsen has one slot for NAV and one for music or updates Then used the System Update function on the head unit, pointed it to the logos folder and they all copy in.
  22. Which Bahrain track is best for F1? 1 The GP circuit 2 The endurance circuit (2010 GP) 3 The perimeter circuit (2020 GP#2) I thought the short track was pretty exciting to be honest. I reckon they should try it again.
  23. HAM fit to drive Merc. RUS back to Williams. AIT out. FIT has second go at Haas.
  24. Last to first. When Button did it, he was hailed as a miracle worker. When Clark made up a whole lap to lead at Monza the same. Watson leading a Mclaren 1-2 winning from 22-23 on the grid is amazing. But Perez achievement is completely overshadowed by Russell's woes at the moment. Hopefully it will later go down in history alongside the other greatest F1 race comebacks.
