  1. The numbers favour the 1.0 true, but Rapid expert Chris above has always had a 1.2 I believe. I have 30k miles in each which say the numbers are wrong. The 1.0 has on paper more torque, but the band is too narrow, and as a result it's much more demanding to drive smoothly. It is also noisier when accelerating and, like most triples, it's quite a nasty harsh noise. The 1.2 in comparison is creamy smooth. Indeed, I would say the pre 2015 chain cam 1.2 is the nicest 4 cylinder I've ever owned. The later 16V belt cam one you'll be looking at has a little more power and economy, and is I believe more reliable. Depending on the registration date, some 1.2 only pay £30 road tax too. BOTTOM LINE: 3.5 years after trading a 1.2 for a 1.0 I still regret it. It's a rubbish drive in comparison.
  2. Montreal binned for 2021. Istanbul the replacement.
  3. No that was 2019..
  4. Some years of the hybrid era like 17 or 18 were pretty good though. Mercedes hunting down the championship leading Ferrari through those seasons. This isn't the first year Mercedes have had competition.
  5. What about his opponent? Max went off under safety car, and didn't get passed by Leclerc Norris etc because Charles plain chose not to. (no killer instinct I feel) You know if the boot was on the other foot and the Ferrari had gone off leading approaching a restart, you wouldn't have seen the RedBull for dust as it streaked away. That was a massive let-off for #33.
  6. The last recall on the chain engine was 2012. There were isolated tensioner issues since I think. About noise, mine was sometimes a little rattly immediately on start, but otherwise very smooth right through the rev range.
  7. It's a chain not a belt. Has been known to go wrong but rarely on post 2012 ones.
  8. Toto seems to be blaming George, but also saying that a Mercedes junior driver employed by another privately owned team shouldn't overtake the works cars??? But only the people with access to telemetry will actually know if Bottas did jink to the right. and cause George to run wide.
  9. Based on history It probably wont happen again but a great result regardless. Max losing to team mates in qually: 2020 - 0 times 2019 - 1 2018 - 3
  10. Last year I was banging on about some relatively unknown Mexican who deserves a chance with a top team. Bu66er me if hes only gone and outqualified the mighty Max on just his second race at RBR. Fuerza Checo!! Albon's comeback prospects just took a dive.
  11. So.... champion MIr is upset that Marc followed him in Q1 to get his qually time. It's dangerous , not fair etc...boo-hoo boo-hoo. Marc then did an even faster time without the tow, but Mir's still moaning. Any way on to Q2 where MM93 ended up on Row 2. I didn't look any further down the grid so I don't actually know where the current "champion" qualified.
  12. MM93 is clearly fast. FP3 has just started and 3 of the damn caravan club are tucking in behind him for a tow into Q2.
  13. MM93 back to work today. Sixth fastest in practice, 0.4 seconds off the lead, on his first day.👏🏻👏🏻 Oh, and 0.4 faster than team mate Pol, who's been riding the bike for several months.
  14. It is by far the best 4 cylinder I ever had. Smooth, quick, rather more powerful than the book 105PS (102HP) figure, surprisingly torquey, and a lovely drive all round. And the shortlived 16V one was supposed to be even better.
  15. I've had both and have a 1.0 now. After nearly 4 years I still regret trading the 1.2 for it. There must have been some underlying EU reason for VW, Ford and others to build these crappy torque-free 1.0 triples but nearly all of the ones I've driven have been utterly hopeless.
  16. Marquez given OK to return at Portimao.👏👏
  17. Motor sport looks likely to die soon. No internal combustion = no interest for me.
  18. Billy Monger didn't get a drive then?
  19. Did I misread or did only 6 cars survive qually?
  20. New rules, big chance for one team to get a jump on the design front a la Brawn double diffuser. 2023 will probably see a return to the established order but yes there is a chance of a shake up next year.
  21. Rossi qualifies on the back row between KTM & Aprilia no-hopers Leucona and Salvadori. Must be time for the GOAT to stop before he hurts himself. Other massive disappointment at Honda with star signing Pol Espagaro 17th on an all Honda 6th row. Only reserve rider Bradl making the top 12.
  22. It was a good race but if Max doesn't win the title this year with RBs current level of car superiority, will he ever win it? The " Max is the best driver crowd " have been been a little quieter this week (apart from numb nuts Piquet and his son) as RedBull somehow frittered away a massive pace advantage. That was a big blow struck by Hamilton and Mercedes, but even they are downplaying their chances of doing it again.
  23. The squeaky front end was endemic amongst earlier Rapids. Many many threads on here about it over the years, maybe even some cures for it. Use the search function (top right of the page on the Windows version) I cured it on my 2014 by trading it for a 2018
  24. But "he only wins because it's the best car" say the haters... Not this week it wasn't not by a long chalk. The Red Bull was even faster than it looked in qualifying too as Max damaged the underfloor in Q1 and it couldn't be fixed during the session.
  25. Great win for Mav, and also Sam Lowes who bossed the whole weekend in GP2. Did you see the amazing start - the Ducati's were 1-2-3-4 into the first bend, and one of them came from 14th on the grid!
