  1. I have numerous noises coming from the front suspension on a 35k 2020 car. Mechanic can’t find anything wrong so I had a shock absorber changed to see what happens and it was still noisy over rough ground. As a taxi driver it is driving me mental and I don’t have unlimited funds to change out every part of the suspension.
  2. After only 35k miles? - creaking/clicking when manoeuvring at low speeds - ie a three point turn - a rubbing noise from the steering, again a low speed turning/manoeuvring, at certain points in the turn. - a horrible (intermittent) crunching noise when the steering approaches/reaches the end of travel (full lock) (I know it’s not advisable to put on full lock but often there’s no choice). And if there is an issue with the rack/pump will it be covered under the Skoda warranty??
  3. I have a similar issue. Went down a pothole and have a noise when going over rough ground. The only thing the mechanic could find was a slightly weeping shock absorber which he changed but the noise still persists. He can’t find anything wrong at all. I asked him to change the strut top mount as there is a creaking from the steering but he didn’t as he said there was nothing wrong with the top mount. I wish he had just changed it as it’s only £25 and at least would have eliminated that possibly. There’s nothing more frustrating than a noise that can’t be diagnosed especially when the car is a taxi and I’m driving it for 10 hours a day.
  4. I simply bought the new solenoid from Skoda (£25) and swapped it out in a couple of minutes.
  5. Sorry Pirellis of course. It has Michelins on the back which I mixed up with the Pirellis. Yip. What an eejit I am.
  6. My 1.5 TSI wheelspins like mad. I put it down to the tyres - Michelin Cinturato P7s - as you hardly get loads of power in first gear (I've got to rev the guts out of it to get it away quickly and then all the power is delivered in 3rd gear when I don't actually need it). Might contact the dealer.
  7. I like the styling on my 2020 SE Technology, the boot space, the interior is slightly bland but effective. Apple car play is good as are the little extras on the SE such as heated mirrors and centre arm rest. It handles quite well and is smooth on the motorway. I don't like the juddery clutch, the noisy and intrusive 1.5 TSI petrol engine, the crappy acceleration from zero on a 150bhp car, the creaking top mounts, the notchy and uneven steering, the poor paint finish, the cheap, horrible carpets, the horrible drive at low speeds, the unstable nature of it when it's windy and so on.
  8. My 2020 (31k miles) 1.5 TSI is making this noise. It’s especially noticeable when making a three point turn. Mines is in at the dealer just now as the fuel pump is noisy so I might chance my arm and see if they’ll replace the top mounts as well.
  9. I'd like to add to this thread and state my 2020 1.5 TSI Octavia is doing this now. Steering is fine at low speeds but anything above 40mph it's notchy and sticky.
  10. Thought I’d share my experience. The original stop/start battery on my previous 15 plate Octavia lasted just over 100k miles. A replacement cost £140 supplied and fitted.
  11. Mystery solved. Took it into a different dealership and the fuel pump has been diagnosed. Changed under warranty next week.
  12. I’ll check this out thanks, I’ve got my own mechanic looking at it later this week. Skoda can’t even send a technician out to the car park to listen to the noise for two weeks.
  13. My 1.5 TSI has an annoyingly loud engine “buzz” in the cabin at idle. It sounds like a loud heater fan but the tone changes up and down. It isn’t always present and the start/stop masks it. You can’t hear the noise outside the vehicle or with the bonnet open and strangely enough it feels like it’s coming from the rear of the vehicle but I can’t be precise. Anyone have the same issue?
  14. I don’t use full lock, I can only compare it to my previous Octavia and the power steering was quiet on that. It’s possible the clutch is slipping, but after 9k miles? I think the engine is just really unrefined. I can’t believe Audi owners put up with it for the extra you pay for one. All In all I’m just really disappointed in this car after 15 years of buying Skodas. The paint finish is poor in places as well and the car is really jerky when it’s cold.
  15. I've had my '20 1.5 TSI since May when it replaced a '15 1.6 CR TDI. I acquired it with 9k miles, it's now on 29k. I've had several Octavias, dating back to a '05 plate 1.9 PD which did 410k without being annoying. I'm not sure I'm enjoying the ownership experience of this car however. So if other owners can confirm the below is normal, I'd be grateful... - acceleration out of 1st gear isn't quick, how they get the 0-60 time is beyond me, it only starts to motor in 3rd gear but by then you don't need the power. For a car with 150bhp (more power than an RS Turbo) it's pretty slow. I own a 27 year old Ford Escort that has a more consistent drive. - It's noisy above 70mph, I think thge 139mph top speed is optimistic. - Power steering is really loud when nearing full lock, much louder than any car I've ever owned. - the engine note is always changing - there's sometimes a loud buzzing in the cab at idle and it can sometimes be as loud as a diesel on tickover but sometimes you can't even hear it. - clutch sometimes judders in quick first gear pull aways. - It's really lumpy on cold mornings. - I've got brand new Pirelli Cinturato P7s on it, yet it can wheelspin in the dry. - you can't use OEM brake pads on it as they clunk, you need VAG original parts. - oil is super expensive - front suspension is creaking at low speed manoeuvres. - fuel consumption is atrocious, the ACT is pointless. - Front assist is very erratic and the auto wipers choose when to work. Apart from that I like the interior and the spec, not sure I can live with it for another 3 years. Kinda wishing I'd just bought a Mondeo now.
  16. I had a clunk (amongst other noises) on my previous Octavia (15 plate 1.6 tdi). Started about 100k and was still there when I sold it at 200k. Was pretty annoying and like you couldn't find any play anywhere. Put it down to the brake pads clunking as they weren't original equipment.
  17. Would this explain the slight judder I get from the clutch occasionally when I pull away quickly under load? It was happening at 9k miles and now the car is on 27k and it’s not got any worse but it’s not great either.
  18. I sold my 15 plate 1.6 TDi CR with 200k miles on it and it it constantly regenerated so I wouldn’t worry about it. The new owner has covered another 10k and it’s still going strong with no DPF issues.
  19. Just like me then. I recently changed my 2015 Octavia 1.6 TDi for a petrol 1.5 TSi only due to LEZ regulations. The car had just under 200k miles when I sold it. Oil, filter, air and fuel filter changed every 9k miles. Original engine, turbo, clutch, dpf, no issues with EGR or injectors, original glow plugs. Only things changed was one drop link, two front shock absorbers and an exhaust sensor. Oh, and heater blower motor.
  20. I did my own services on my old 2015 1.6 CR TDi. I must have changed the fuel filter about 10 times and I never topped up with diesel and the car is still going strong on nearly 200k miles.
  21. I fitted Monroe shocks to my old 15 plate. Reduced some of the noise but not much.
  22. I’m beginning to think the clutch or an aspect of the clutch is gubbed. I’m going to phone the dealer on monday. The car belonged to Europcar before I bought it so God knows how it has been driven. It’s disappointing as it has only done 12k.
  23. Yeah it’s in normal mode. For some annoying reason the car always returns to normal when you restart it. The old one didn’t do it. anyway I’ve discovered a way to stop it which is to blip the clutch slightly again after lifting it up before accelerating. It only really happens once every ten times or so when changing so I can live with it for now. I’m assuming it’s a “feature” of the car.
  24. I’ve read all about the “kangarooing” issues and tbh my car drives absolutely fine except there is a hint of clutch judder when pulling away in 1st just after the biting point. It doesn’t happen all the time and can be totally avoided by changing to 2nd immediately, over revving or dipping the clutch. Sometimes I get a clean, nice getaway. Having had a 1.6 diesel that was still on the original clutch after 196k it’s a bit disconcerting. It’s a 2020 1.5 TSi with 12k miles. tbh the inconsistencies in the driving experience in these cars is driving me mad. I’ve had Octavias back to a 2004 MK1 1.9 PD and the MK3 seems to lack the workhorse quality they previously had. Would a dealer software update help perhaps or am I on course for a new clutch after only 12k???
