  1. It’s a single mass flywheel in the 1.6 isn’t it? So you should get away with just doing the clutch. I’d reckon about £500 from an independent garage. My old 1.6 is still on the original clutch at 219k so I didn’t have to change it.
  2. Sorry, I’ve posted before about this noise but please see the video below. That’s the car stationary with load being applied to the engine. I’m pretty sure it’s manifesting itself for a brief moment whilst accelerating out of 2nd and 3rd gears but sounds like an exhaust blow from the cabin under engine and road noise if that makes sense?? Driving isn’t affected and no codes available but it’s a bit annoying and hopefully nothing serious. She’s a 2020 1.5 TSI with 53k miles. Serviced with 0w20 508/509 every 6/7k.
  3. I've begun to notice a weird noise that can best be described as sounding like the exhaust is leaking or the revs are simply louder for a brief second under load in 2nd gear. I can hear it when the window is down and I'm driving close to a wall as a sort of intermittent metallic rattle when the accelerator pedal is being depressed. It also manifests itself most clearly on first start up if you rev the car, then it quickly seems to vanish but return later. Anything to worry about? It's a 2020 1.5 TSI with 52k miles.
  4. I had to get original VAG pads. Anything else just rattled in the calipers.
  5. Would it be okay to fit these to my car? They don’t require coded in it or anything do they?
  6. My old 1.6tdi 15 plate was a taxi too and often dropped a bit of coolant now and then. I just topped it up and it’s still going strong at 230k.
  7. I owned the car for 4 years and it was a taxi so lots of short journeys. I made sure that when the regen began I always drove the car until it had completed and that I always completed one motorway journey per day. I was getting at least one regen per day. There’s no point in getting worried about something that probably won’t happen. I only had the DPF light come on once and a quick Italian style blast over some B roads sorted it.
  8. Hi there. I had the noisy fuel pump on my car. The Skoda warranties guy agreed with me it was the pump and it was allegedly replaced under warranty at a cost (to Skoda) of £495. I say allegedly because almost as soon as I left the dealership it was noisy again so I’m convinced they couldn’t hear the noise in the workshop (it’s intermittent) so took a decision not to change it but tell me they did. Now they’re saying they won’t change it unless it actually breaks. That’s terrific for a taxi with passengers hearing a loud droning noise.
  9. Did you ever get to the bottom of the noises? My car, a 2020, is driving me insane with the noises. Loud brakes, loud power steering, road noise so bad you think a window is open, different engine notes from whisper quiet to chuffing away, various twangs, crackles and creaks. It crashes and bangs over any rough road in a way that chatters your teeth. 150 hp apparently but gets ragged at the lights by Nissan Micras. There’s a clutch judder in first gear that varies between bouncing and an barely imperceptible grind but only if you’re always conscious of the judder. Let’s not mention the notchy gear change though. Dealer says there’s nothing wrong with it but I’ve got to drive it 10 hours a day (it’s a taxi) so it’s really getting to me. I honestly wish I’d never bought it and got a Mondeo or Insignia instead. To compare I have a 28 year old Ford Escort that’s better in many ways than this car at least it’s quieter in the cab and better over rough surfaces and no clutch judder.
  10. Problem solved. It was a phone charging cable that was smouldering at the connection end. It had fallen down onto the floor so I didn’t notice it. It’s also burned a hole into my rubber foot mat. I was about to charge up to the dealers as well and have a moan.
  11. Filled up with petrol last night and noticed a burning smell when I drove off. Seemed to have gone when I got home so I thought nothing off it. Opened the car up this morning and there was smoke inside. My initial thought was the fuel pump but there’s no smell there having lifted the back seat. The smell appears to be more from the dash area. It’s certainly inside the car anyway and the heater motor is noisier than it should be, perhaps it is that? Anyone any similar tales of woe that can offer any advice on where to look?
  12. My mechanic has sourced the NGK VW ones for me. £68 for 4 though….
  13. My 1.5 TSI has just turned over 40k so I was looking to get the plugs changed. I’ve seen recommendations for Denso Iridium but my local factors can only supply Bosch or NGK. Can anyone recommend Bosch?
  14. I'm not sure if this will help you but my 2015 1.6 CR TDI was like a bag of spanners until it warmed up. This began when I bought the car at 36k miles and it was still doing it when I sold it at 200k.
  15. 100k? Pah! I’ve had 400k on an Octavia.
  16. Thanks. Sounds like another fuel pump for my car then. I wonder if it's anything to do with E10 petrol.
  17. Hi there. Did you ever get to the bottom of this noise? I have the same on my 1.5 TSI which has the GPF. Skoda replaced the fuel pump under warranty as they "diagnosed" that as the noise source but the noise has returned again immediately albeit intermittently. The droning noise seems to come from the middle to rear of the car and it's exceptionally annoying.
  18. Does the GPF on the 1.5 TSI make a noise when it's doing its thing? Like a regenerating DPF does? It's just that I had my car in at Skoda for a replacement fuel pump that was very noisy and now the new one is noisy as well. If the GPF is located from the middle to rear of the car could it maybe be that which is buzzing loudly??
  19. It’s a 20 plate with 36k. I’m going underneath it tomorrow. I’ll let you know what I find that the mechanics couldn’t.
  20. My car is making a creaking noise too when turning at low speeds - a three point turn for example. Also the power steering is very crunchy at the end of travel and makes a rubbing noise into the bargain. I suspect the steering rack but a split CV boot cover would be a good bit better.
  21. Wondering if anyone else has a fuel pump that buzzes loudly on idle? Had mine replaced under warranty last week as the dealer agreed it was faulty. Now the new pump is doing the same thing. I’m beginning to wonder if this is down to E10 fuel. Anyone else experiencing this - it’s a 2020 1.5 TSi.
  22. Hi. I had the electric coolant pump replaced but it turned out it was a broken wire as the code came back. So I would check the wiring before buying a new pump. I’m not sure what the part number was but he got a good deal on an original part from TPS.
  23. A motorway run is no use. You need to give it an absolute thrashing down a B road dropping gears at high revs to get the correct temperature - what’s called an Italian tune up. My DPF light came on at 120k, I stuck in some DPF cleaner and super diesel thrashed it down country roads for an hour and it cured the problem. Car is now on 220k (with a different owner) and there’s been no DPF issues since. I had the same car as you - a 2015 Octavia 1.6 TDI CR.
  24. I have numerous noises coming from the front suspension on a 35k 2020 car. Mechanic can’t find anything wrong so I had a shock absorber changed to see what happens and it was still noisy over rough ground. As a taxi driver it is driving me mental and I don’t have unlimited funds to change out every part of the suspension.
  25. After only 35k miles? - creaking/clicking when manoeuvring at low speeds - ie a three point turn - a rubbing noise from the steering, again a low speed turning/manoeuvring, at certain points in the turn. - a horrible (intermittent) crunching noise when the steering approaches/reaches the end of travel (full lock) (I know it’s not advisable to put on full lock but often there’s no choice). And if there is an issue with the rack/pump will it be covered under the Skoda warranty??
