  1. Hardly. I was hoping for effortless acceleration up to speed not being beaten away from the lights by a Kia Picanto! Sometimes it’s nice and smooth, other times it feels like it’s screaming it’s head off trying to build speed. I’ve got a 25 year old Citroen that drives more consistently. Maybe that’s the problem with modern cars, overcomplicated.
  2. I changed the oil at 7k because I’m paranoid and hope to avoid any further expensive issues nice it’s out of warranty. Have to say it’s a horrible car to drive. Rubbish in lower gears then all the power arrives in third when you don’t need it. Inconsistent drive and crashy suspension and uncomfortable seats. I’ll not get another Skoda.
  3. Thanks. I feel I've went over and above with regards to servicing, obviously doing an oil change at the dealers every 7k would not be cost effective so that's why I used a garage. The only thing I've not done is brake fluid because the last Octavia I owned still had the original brake fluid at 200k and a check for viscosity showed it was still perfect. The car has wanted for nothing but it's never really wanted anything tbh. It still drives perfectly, the way it did when I got it at 9k miles so this maybe just be the actuator rattling. I just wanted to know where I may stand with them just getting it checked as tbh I can't afford to chuck £100s at them just to look at it. The service bloke was moaning the last time it was in as he said they spent 4 hours trying to hear the fuel pump noise but I think they were trying to fob me off. As you say it needs investigating.
  4. I posted before regarding a rattling noise from the engine under load and also the possibility of the clutch being an issue. Now I believe they’re the one and same issue as my mechanic has identified the rattle as “coming from the turbo area but probably not the actual turbo”. There’s really nothing wrong with the clutch at all. My car is a 2020 1.5 TSI and is a taxi and has done 55k miles. So it’s still 5k miles short of the third year warranty expiration. The dealer is Henrys Skoda Glasgow and they happily “changed” a noisy fuel pump under warranty last year (it’s still noisy so I’m suspicious that it was actually done). Worst case scenario if it needs a turbo replaced will I face opposition to getting this done under warranty? The car has been serviced every 7k miles by my local mechanic using the proper oil and filters, spark plugs replaced at 38k and will get an air filter this week. Receipts have been kept obviously.
  5. I think the clutch on my 1.5 TSI is on the way out. Car still drives normally but there’s a bit of judder (not the kangarooing) sometimes when moving off, a smell of burning clutch in the engine bay and a bit of over revving out of first and second gear. A bit annoying as I drive the car carefully but as it was a hire car for a year before I got it I think the damage was done then. The car has done 54k so what’s the chances of Skoda helping me under warranty?? Absolutely none or is there a wee chance??
  6. I've had my 2020 1.5 TSI serviced at my local garage since I bought it last May, 7 oil services in total. Because it's a taxi it needs a service every 10 weeks or so but I get it done at 6/7k intervals because I don't trust that green water they call oil it has to get. My mechanic has updated the digital record on each occasion.
  7. It’s a single mass flywheel in the 1.6 isn’t it? So you should get away with just doing the clutch. I’d reckon about £500 from an independent garage. My old 1.6 is still on the original clutch at 219k so I didn’t have to change it.
  8. Sorry, I’ve posted before about this noise but please see the video below. That’s the car stationary with load being applied to the engine. I’m pretty sure it’s manifesting itself for a brief moment whilst accelerating out of 2nd and 3rd gears but sounds like an exhaust blow from the cabin under engine and road noise if that makes sense?? Driving isn’t affected and no codes available but it’s a bit annoying and hopefully nothing serious. She’s a 2020 1.5 TSI with 53k miles. Serviced with 0w20 508/509 every 6/7k.
  9. I've begun to notice a weird noise that can best be described as sounding like the exhaust is leaking or the revs are simply louder for a brief second under load in 2nd gear. I can hear it when the window is down and I'm driving close to a wall as a sort of intermittent metallic rattle when the accelerator pedal is being depressed. It also manifests itself most clearly on first start up if you rev the car, then it quickly seems to vanish but return later. Anything to worry about? It's a 2020 1.5 TSI with 52k miles.
  10. I had to get original VAG pads. Anything else just rattled in the calipers.
  11. Would it be okay to fit these to my car? They don’t require coded in it or anything do they?
  12. My old 1.6tdi 15 plate was a taxi too and often dropped a bit of coolant now and then. I just topped it up and it’s still going strong at 230k.
  13. I owned the car for 4 years and it was a taxi so lots of short journeys. I made sure that when the regen began I always drove the car until it had completed and that I always completed one motorway journey per day. I was getting at least one regen per day. There’s no point in getting worried about something that probably won’t happen. I only had the DPF light come on once and a quick Italian style blast over some B roads sorted it.
  14. Hi there. I had the noisy fuel pump on my car. The Skoda warranties guy agreed with me it was the pump and it was allegedly replaced under warranty at a cost (to Skoda) of £495. I say allegedly because almost as soon as I left the dealership it was noisy again so I’m convinced they couldn’t hear the noise in the workshop (it’s intermittent) so took a decision not to change it but tell me they did. Now they’re saying they won’t change it unless it actually breaks. That’s terrific for a taxi with passengers hearing a loud droning noise.
  15. Did you ever get to the bottom of the noises? My car, a 2020, is driving me insane with the noises. Loud brakes, loud power steering, road noise so bad you think a window is open, different engine notes from whisper quiet to chuffing away, various twangs, crackles and creaks. It crashes and bangs over any rough road in a way that chatters your teeth. 150 hp apparently but gets ragged at the lights by Nissan Micras. There’s a clutch judder in first gear that varies between bouncing and an barely imperceptible grind but only if you’re always conscious of the judder. Let’s not mention the notchy gear change though. Dealer says there’s nothing wrong with it but I’ve got to drive it 10 hours a day (it’s a taxi) so it’s really getting to me. I honestly wish I’d never bought it and got a Mondeo or Insignia instead. To compare I have a 28 year old Ford Escort that’s better in many ways than this car at least it’s quieter in the cab and better over rough surfaces and no clutch judder.
  16. Problem solved. It was a phone charging cable that was smouldering at the connection end. It had fallen down onto the floor so I didn’t notice it. It’s also burned a hole into my rubber foot mat. I was about to charge up to the dealers as well and have a moan.
  17. Filled up with petrol last night and noticed a burning smell when I drove off. Seemed to have gone when I got home so I thought nothing off it. Opened the car up this morning and there was smoke inside. My initial thought was the fuel pump but there’s no smell there having lifted the back seat. The smell appears to be more from the dash area. It’s certainly inside the car anyway and the heater motor is noisier than it should be, perhaps it is that? Anyone any similar tales of woe that can offer any advice on where to look?
  18. My mechanic has sourced the NGK VW ones for me. £68 for 4 though….
  19. My 1.5 TSI has just turned over 40k so I was looking to get the plugs changed. I’ve seen recommendations for Denso Iridium but my local factors can only supply Bosch or NGK. Can anyone recommend Bosch?
  20. I'm not sure if this will help you but my 2015 1.6 CR TDI was like a bag of spanners until it warmed up. This began when I bought the car at 36k miles and it was still doing it when I sold it at 200k.
  21. 100k? Pah! I’ve had 400k on an Octavia.
  22. Thanks. Sounds like another fuel pump for my car then. I wonder if it's anything to do with E10 petrol.
  23. Hi there. Did you ever get to the bottom of this noise? I have the same on my 1.5 TSI which has the GPF. Skoda replaced the fuel pump under warranty as they "diagnosed" that as the noise source but the noise has returned again immediately albeit intermittently. The droning noise seems to come from the middle to rear of the car and it's exceptionally annoying.
  24. Does the GPF on the 1.5 TSI make a noise when it's doing its thing? Like a regenerating DPF does? It's just that I had my car in at Skoda for a replacement fuel pump that was very noisy and now the new one is noisy as well. If the GPF is located from the middle to rear of the car could it maybe be that which is buzzing loudly??
  25. It’s a 20 plate with 36k. I’m going underneath it tomorrow. I’ll let you know what I find that the mechanics couldn’t.
