  1. I would say it would be beautifully 'run-in' with a long hot run.
  2. Might feel differently on new tyres if the present set are nearing the legal limit.
  3. I bought my 1.2tsi new in 2013 and it has proven ultra reliable. All the bulbs (lamps) are original apart from one number plate bulb. It has taken us visiting seven EU countries without missing a beat. I have taken my sons sofa and other rubbish to the recycling centre in seat-out mode and I love it. The most reliable car and least expensive maintenance vehicle I have ever owned. For its age only a modest 60k so it will probably be the last ice car I will ever own lasting another 10 years. Love it!
  4. I have thought the gap rather large but it allows for the reclining of the back seats. However, I am not concerned as the Sunset tinted glass makes it nigh impossible to see anything in the boot. Don't know if Sunset glass is standard throughout the range though. Mine is 2013 SE.
  5. Moving lanes to allow joining traffic to merge onto the carriageway and then a merging car speeds up to prevent you from moving back into nearside lane. Last week one driver undertook me while I was doing the national speed limit.
  6. Thank you. Please can you recommend an OBD scanner. I have an infra-red digital thermometer which may be useful if I know what to point it at!
  7. I realise it is colder now winter has set in but the engine seems to take longer to warm up even in the summer months for the blue light to extinguish. Wish I had a gauge instead. Where is the coolant thermostat located in the engine bay on my1.2 tsi? Although being a later model my sister-in-laws Fabia has a gauge and reaches 90 degrees C a lot quicker.
  8. There were two prices for an aircon service; one price for the older type of refrigerant and a higher price for the latest refrigerant. The older gas was replaced for half the cost but now the prices have been aligned to reflect the higher. A con. Sorry for the pun!
  9. As an update my fob battery is 10-years-old and when I wanted to find my vehicle last week in a car park it activated while I was 30ft away so still good. My son has a 2017 Mini with keyless and as you say his have had to be replaced.
  10. It may be the same as my Roomster but if you reset the 'inspection service' notification do the same as the 'service notification' but have the hazards on as well. It seems strange but it works for me
  11. If its any comfort my 2013 Roomie 1.2 tsi has had chain noise since new (10 years ago) on cold start up. I have the new tensioner, according to the engine number, but it happens randomly.
  12. Catalytic convertor may not be doing its job
  13. Select 2nd gear and drive below 1500rpm. Press accelerator and feel the pull when turbo kicks in above 1500rpm.
  14. I presume the turbo kicks in above 1500 rpm
  15. At the factory my Roomster was filled with G12 but I believe the dealers topped up with G13.
  16. My resistor pack went with all speeds apart from one. I bought the part from my dealer and followed the instructions on the video but I removed the glove box lid and did not fancy mucking about with the airbag. Bottled the job and gave it to the dealer to do and they accepted as the resistor was bought from their spares department. Cost around £90 for labour but that was just before covid
  17. I have been hearing a rattle when the front passenger door is closed: the sound of something loose at the bottom of the door. I blamed it on my son who slams the door when he alights outside the station. I did not relish the thought of removing the door card to locate the rattle. I remember some years ago that my Nissan Micra had a ticking from the drivers door while driving and the dealer said to lubricate the door hinges and stay which stopped the ticking. I inspected the Roomie's door stay and decided to grease the stay as it looked rather dry. Finding some Castrol LM grease in the shed (which belonged to my Father when he greased the nipples on his upright Ford Popular) I sparingly greased the passengers door stay, and then the others. I opened and closed the passenger door and hence no rattle was heard. Job done.
  18. I may treat myself to a new liner. The driver side is fractured but not sheered off. I avoid bumping up high kerbs which may have damaged both sides. I suppose the flexibility in the plastic has reduced over the 10 years and the liners have become brittle. Over the 10 years of ownership this has been the only problem incurred.
  19. Has anyone else got broken or damaged extensions to the rear wheel arch liner? The nearside has broken off completely, which I suspect was done when driving over a farmer's field to the car boot car park. It has exposed the seam and cill. I suppose the only remedy is a replacement liner or just forget it!
  20. Yes. The engines are 8V. Mine is a peach of an engine and I enjoy it on long journeys and very economical.
  21. The insurance market is not very honest. Your car will be auctioned off, repaired and back on the road. That is what happened to my son.
  22. The thin line in the windscreen is called a window aerial. On page 147 of the Owners Manual under section Windows and Exterior, Caution: the last bullet point states: • Do not clean the inside of the windows with sharp edged objects or corrosive and acidic cleaning agents - there is a risk of damaging the heating elements or window aerial.
  23. I have the 85bhp engine, it is chain driven and is fine. Sometimes I hear chain noise on a cold start up and it did it from new. After 9 years and 54k miles nothing untoward has happened. The revised chain tensioner was introduced on models after 2012: mine is 2013. The Roomster was offered with the 85bhp or 105bhp. The 85bhp is in a lower insurance group so easier on the wallet.
  24. Is the Scala neglected and not promoted as much rather like the Roomster?
  25. I had a broken PCV valve after a major service on my Roomster. I suspected it was broken when the air filter was replaced because the air box top when pulled up and back to release the filter puts leverage on the pipe to the PCV valve and breaks the spigot where it enters the rocker cover. How many other broken PCV valves are out there with unsuspecting owners?
