  1. That has happened to me three times in 12 years. I just press the middle of each sensor with my thumb. The suspect one is the nearside sensor nearest the kerb. I found the black rubber seal around the sensor was wet and squishy after washing. Did the press check and no further problems.
  2. Sometimes my rattles on cold start up. There is a slight noise from the hydraulic tappets but that is all. Ours is supposedly to have had the improved tensioner. The dealer filled mine with 0W 30W when the spec is 5W 30W so is that of benefit for the chain? Yes, 0W circulates quicker but does it lack body for faster rise in oil pressure which activates the tensioner? When we had the hot spell in the summer the thinness of the oil made the chain make a rubbing sound for a few seconds which worried me. The impending service and oil change eliminated that noise.
  3. Just enjoy it. Mine is 13 years old and has had no issues over the period. Everything still works like new and is now on 72k. My brother-in-law when he owned a Yeti was always asking to drive my Roomster. He has a Scala now.
  4. Have you turned the wheel to raise the beam on dip and check it is working? Mine is set on number 1. I find them very good on main beam.
  5. There is no power under 1500 rpm when the turbo kicks in. For example, I fettle the throttle while in second gear on an approach to a roundabout see a gap, put throttle down and nothing until the revs reach 1500 rpm then it yanks you forward. Nothing is wrong with the engine just a characteristic of power delivery. I change down to first gear for instant acceleration. Adapted to this since I picked the car from new. I know yours is auto but engine must behave the same. I had a Fiat Multipla 1600 petrol and yes that was more responsive on the throttle as Fiats are.
  6. I had an issue with my rear sensors which happened quite randomly. I had the initial beep and then a constant beep. I went around the sensors and pushed inwards with a finger which cured the problem. Sometimes wetness can get into the seal.
  7. I think Jaguar had a confusing range with it SUVs. What is an i-Pace and e-Pace or similar names? The saloons and F-types were its strength and traditional market. I hope it survives but competing with Bentley narrows its position in the market.
  8. I have a Roomster and wonder why you removed the bulb from the glovebox? The bulb is constantly lit but extinguishes when the car is locked using the fob.
  9. Roomsters are pre-infotainment so no menus.
  10. Occasionally when I am bored I read the Owner's Manual. After 12 years of thumbing through, on page 29 under the heading of Automatic locking and unlocking it states, " All doors and the boot lid are locked automatically once the car reaches a speed of about 15km/h." I have never heard the click of the doors locking so I presume this feature was never included in the spec or offered as an optional extra because the sales brochure doesn't mention it. Has anyone got this feature?
  11. It is never specified as an item to replace. I believe it is in the fuel tank and should need no maintenance. As consolation my mates Passat has the fuel filter in-line. He replaced it after 20 years and opened up the original. There was next to nothing in it in the way of debris.
  12. My pal has a 23 year-old Passat with the original exhaust.
  13. I am tempted to consider. What is holding me back is the speed of battery development with solid state batteries giving longer ranges but not widely available. Give it 3 years and I might have the itch to 'switch'.
  14. My Fiat started instantly but the Roomster is lazy. Sometimes the chain makes a sound before tensioning, but not always
  15. Will it start using Easystart sprayed into the air intake (airbox)? If it runs using Easystart then its a fuelling matter. Try the easy options first.
  16. I have a 63 plate also and from cold they are not instant starters: they take a few turns before firing. I have had this since new so not a concern. Can't help with the other problems unfortunately.
  17. This may help. The handbook says fuse 50 is for stop/start DC/DC converter, infotainment, radio. The fuse box may be a universal fitting as Roomsters don't have stop/start or infotainment.
  18. I started the engine from cold and raised the bonnet to hear if there were any unusual noises. The engine was in fast idle mode around 1100 rpm. I heard a sound from the right of the engine near the airbox like a spark plug spark 'click' noise with the engine dropping to normal rpm. The question for the technical-minded is what controls the rpm from fast idle to normal and what makes the 'click' sound? Engine is 1.2 tsi.
  19. The vertical rods are droplinks and are a cheap fix. As Paws.. said they are advisories. If money is tight get the advisories done over a period of time.
  20. Are the speeds 1 and 2 also not operating with the aircon turned off? If it is the case then its the resistor unit as rum4mo has suggested. The upper glove box lid has to be removed and passenger air bag has to be lifted up to replace the item. Mine went a couple of years ago and I had the dealer replace it as I did not fancy messing about with airbags.
  21. After 12 years one of my dipped beam bulbs expired. I replaced it with an H7 bulb but is the main beam bulb also H7? I bought two spares from the local spares shop but being Lucas I expect them to last 12 months.
  22. It is a high pressure fuel system and the noise is more of a 'knock'?
  23. Avoid the models with the sliding opening sunroof. They are subject to leaking and running water in to the footwells.
  24. There are two 1.2tsi: one with 86bhp and the alternative with 104bhp. I have the 86bhp and enjoy the lower insurance costs. I have had the 86bhp from new over 12 years and have had no major issues over 66k. I have taken mine on European trips fully loaded and have found it not wanting. Touring mpg has been around 53mpg so very economical.
  25. I went from a bug-eyed Fiat Multipla to the Roomster so the family approved until my son's girlfriend said it looked like a hearse!
