  1. I had to disconnect the battery for some remedial work and reconnected. Apart from having to reset the clock the car performed as before with no difference and fuel consumption shown on the display showed no change.
  2. Interesting. I will refill with Shell Helix Ultra 0W 30W as the engine was quieter on start up
  3. I drive a 1.2 tsi engine which is doing me proud. At the first ever oil change the dealer put in 0W 30 viscosity Shell Ultra oil for changes. The next oil change the dealer had changed oil supplier and put in Castrol Edge long life 5W 30. I intend to change the oil myself so on the websites for the oil companies they have a Find the right oil search facility. I have found that most companies recommend 5W 30W for long drain intervals but 5W 40W for fixed servicing. Why is there need to put in a 30W for long life and 40W for shorter drain intervals?
  4. Or the Nissan Cube. I like quirky cars as previously I had the bug Multipla and then the Roomster. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
  5. I am changing my filter soon for the first time. Does it automatically locate when screwing home or is there a set procedure? Wifey says I have to do it parked in the road as recently our drive has been block-paved.
  6. I have a 1.2 tsi with the inverted oil filter. Does the filter have a non-drain valve? I assumed once filled the oil filter holds the oil rather like holding fluid in a pipette or straw with a finger over the end. I saw a video of oil changing on these engines and to drain the filter is showed to unscrew the filter just enough so air breaks the seal and drains any remaining oil back into the sump. Just a thought
  7. Our Roomster has the basic display screen (not the Maxidot) and the Roomster shares much with the Fabia.
  8. Have you accidently set the speed warning function if you exceed a certain preset speed? It happened to me when I was using the preset button on the stalk to zero the computer settings and I unknowingly activated this function and the beep was heard over a certain speed. It plagued me for a week until I had a light bulb moment and realised. I always read the manual from cover to cover and this dawned on me. You need to cancel the Speed Warn function by following the instructions in the owners manual under 'Warning against excessive speeds'.
  9. What about stop/start function. Does this compromise turbo cooling?
  10. I removed the top glove box but the air bag installation was not as shown in the youtube video. There were no 3 torx screws to remove to free the airbag prior to be prised out and I could not see how to remove the airbag. I bottled it and booked it in to the local Skoda dealers. They have the updated engineering notes and manual on how to do it. At least I found out how to replace the light in the lower glove box as it sits on the top with a translucent lens to illuminate the glove box
  11. Reading this about electric windows this has happened since new. When the windows are half open and I lift the window switch the to close the windows always goes fully down and then I lift the switch again for the window to full close. This not only happens on the driver's side but also on the passengers and it annoys my wife as closing the window is a two-finger lift operation. After 8 years I have got used to it.
  12. Dunno. We have an electric built-in oven made by Stoves and going strong for at least twenty years. It has a top conventional oven and fan bottom oven. Probably made before energy efficiency labels were thought of
  13. I have ordered and got if from my Skoda dealers. Just have to fit it. Is it easy to lift the airbag out? The videos do not make it clear as to what you have to lever on to raise the airbag.
  14. I makeup my mind without being influenced by ads. I pick a particular vehicle by need and requirements rather than marketing influences. My last vehicle was a bug-eyed Fiat Multipla which I owned for 10 marvellous years. It took us around Europe 6-up with luggage without a murmer. If I had listened to a work colleague who was against Fiat as a brand and my son who never saw the beauty, as I did in the model, my life would have been poorer for it.
  15. My brain hurts. Best left alone!
  16. I have solved it, I believe. It fits into the top of the storage tube to stop the tubes from flailing around when carrying
  17. I have got Sealey technical department scratching their heads as to what it is used for. I am concerned as to if it is an internal part forgotten to be fitted during assembly. If you, JR, also had one then it is an accessory which is not listed, not mentioned in user instructions and a mystery to the suppliers
  18. I found this item attached to the foot stand. I have asked Sealey and sent this picture but had no reply. Any ideas?
  19. Just bought a vacuum hand-pumped Siegen, marketed by Sealey, and from the choice of tubes the 4mm was the only size which slid down.
  20. I am returning it for a refund as you say JR the coil of the pickup tube is pre-formed and will not straighten and it measures 7mm not the 6mm as specified. I have found a Sealey vacuum pump at my local parts factors for £53 and comes with 4mm, 6mm and 8mm pick up tube diameters. The sensible choice.
  21. I have seen the Tetraclean ads featuring Edd China but I am sceptical how that works
  22. Problem seems to more widespread than first thought.
  23. Thanks for your advice,. I will certainly look at the TP69. It is just that the thought of removing the engine tray before accessing the sump plug puts me off. I have measured the dip stick width and it is 4mm. Then I measure the Lidl pick up tube and it is slightly elongated measuring more like 7mm, not the 6mm in the literature. What has happened to precise German engineering? I spoke to OWIM and expressed my disappointment that a German made pump limits some VAG engines from its use which is their home market. They certainly did not field trial the product before marketing it unless the pick up tube was sourced from China!
  24. Just took advantage of the electric oil pump priced at £12.99 at Lidl. It is distributed by OWIM which is German so I imagined it would suit VAG engines. Lo behold the pick up tube is 6mm diameter which is too big a bore to slide down the dipstick tube.
  25. Of course greater the speed greater the variance on the speedo. My Roomster shows 77 on the speedo when 70 on the gps. So at 30 on speedo you are doing 27 actual. This variance saves you if your speed has crept up unwittingly in urban streets passing the dreaded speed camera.
