My 63 reg 1.2tsi has done it since new but not on every start-up. Sometimes it does it and sometimes not. If the tensioner tightens with oil pressure then for the first few seconds before oil pressure has built up surely the chain is slack? I can't get my head around it. When it first happened I put it down to possibly tappet clatter but don't know.

I would stay with it. The Roomster is brilliant and mileage and age is nothing to worry about. Returning from Cornwall this weekend mainly the broken down vehicles being attended to by the breakdown services were the Audi's and BMW's while I soldiered pass with a smug look on my face.

Road noise is common. My son's Fiesta is as noisy and also my brother-in-laws Yeti.

I have noticed that other Roomsters have this feature so I suspect that a dodgy batch of pressings were used

Do continental prices work out cheaper for the buyer in France than the UK? I have always felt that the equivalent model in the UK is more expensive compared to our continental counterparts. Of course manufacturers may change specification levels to make a comparison more difficult.

I am surprised that the rear pads lack meat when new.

It is tempting to use the power on tap. I graduated from a Nissan Micra to a Triumph Dolomite 1850HL. The increased torque and power output and 0-60 times around 10secs (good in the 70s) made me squirt the throttle to get the push in the back which I found intoxicating. In Australia I hired a Mitsibushi 380 auto and that had muscle. Today I have matured and quite content to poodle around with 86bhp. My glory days are over.

Advisory is an old chestnut. I was advised my tyres only had 4mm of tread left and the brake pads only had 40% linings left. You are right. I only took up the offer because it was a freebie and curious if I would notice any difference. It proves this 'about time to have this done' should be 'don't fix it if not broke'. My son's 5 year-old- Fiesta was re-gassed yesterday as it was not blowing cold but my brother-in-laws Galaxy never was re-gassed in the 11 years he owned it.

Reading other posts of other models was the Roomster the last marque with the least hangups and the most sane buy? I am now petrified to buy a new Skoda with the problems of DSG gearboxes filled with the wrong oil, software and hardwire glitches, electronic nightmares of reading VCD codes and general frustration of understanding bluetooth connection, updating gps maps, and angry that I cannot play something basic as a CD. After 7 years, I have had no problems with running issues breaking gearboxes, software bugs and emission controversy. I count my blessings!! Amen.

Owned the Roomie from new since 2013 and I can say it has been a pleasure and the most reliable and least expensive vehicle I have owned. Apart from dealer services I have spent nothing on repairs, I admit it has only travelled 40k but everything is original apart from one number plate bulb which blew and tyres. I have owned the Roomie from new since 2013 and I saw it at the dealers when it was wrapped in the white plastic protective skin. I have not had any accident damage to the nearside wing but it has always been raised and does not fit flush and slightly proud with the bonnet. It has been an irritant but I realise that the Roomster is not a Rolls-Royce. I wonder if it was a bad batch of pressings and if other owners have the same? Perhaps a prospective owner or dealer may query if the car had been in an accident. The first photo shows the offside wing and the second the passenger side which fits flush.

I realise that tyres have a limited shelf life but I have noticed that the only factory-fitted rear Hankook is showing signs of deterioration after 6 years. My sister-in-law's Fabia of the same age is shod with the factory-fitted Continentals and they have no signs of perishing. I have never had this tyre problem before and am wondering if Hankooks are prone to it? I realise that tyres should be replaced after 5 years for safety reasons. I have always been particular about maintaining correct tyre pressures.
