  1. Why should a diesel be different to a petrol re warm-up? Oil still has to get around the engine. I just start the car up, put the seat belt on, get comfortable then go. I don’t think letting either engine idle does anything except waste fuel. But see my sig below...
  2. I asked this in the Octavia 3 forum, and was assured the answer is a big No. ACC or nothing. But I was speaking with a retired Police fast response driver (an old RAF mate) about this, and he said that if you indicate before overtaking, it should override the AI of the system. This has also been mentioned earlier in this thread. HTH Malcolm
  3. It all depends how OE you want it to look, and how much effort and money you want to spend, but on my previous car (which didn’t have satnav) I bought a cheapie Chinese 7” satnav which came with a wireless reversing camera. IIRC it was around £35 on eBay, and did the job. I made a pod for it and mounted it atop the dashboard, all wiring hidden, and a rocker switch to turn off the power. OK, there was a dummy speaker grille which I utilised!
  4. The trouble is, now you’ve ‘gone public’, the clip will grow and grow, and really annoy you every time you get in the car.....
  5. Is this deja vu?
  6. Had my 1.4 tsi since March, and love the DSG box. Best auto I’ve had, apart from maybe a Lexus hybrid, but that had a lecky motor/drive so was inherently smooth.
  7. Have a look on the Octavia 3 (2013-2020) forum, a brilliant diy fitting guide for plug and play camera. There are several, but the one I used was posted by Weyland, and titled ‘How to - Reversing Camera fitting guide’. Whether the camera featured fits depends on the style of boot release handle, though, and I don’t know whether the Superb has the same. Worth exploring, though, as I did it for less than £50 including buying trim removal tools. HTH
  8. And of course if the new wheel/tyre combination changes the rolling circumference, it will affect the speedo, so also bear that in mind.
  9. Whether it was weak, or brittle through age, but I accidentally broke the parking ticket clip off while cleaning the screen on Mrs B’s Fabia when it was approx 6 years old, much to her annoyance. So you might not have long to wait before there’s an easier way than described above. Please note, however, that using this method means that the car can’t be returned to OE spec when sold or at lease end, which might affect its value to some extent. (Apologies for taking the Mick a bit, but I use the clip a lot, as it stops the tickets finishing up on the floor)

IIRC from when I installed a reversing camera on my Octavia, with the same handle/strap, even when the bolt is removed, the handle doesn’t just pull out/off, it seems to be routed through the boot lining. I must admit though, I was only loosening the lining to get at the back of the boot release handle, so didn’t take much notice of how this bit fitted. I don’t recall having much trouble replacing the bolt, but as I said, I didn’t actually separate the pull-down strap from the boot lining.
  11. Yes. On a ‘Friday afternoon’ Volvo, at around 50k miles, and while not a failure, we had a regular DPF warning light on a 1.6 diesel Fabia. The latter was cured each time by a quick Italian tune-up round the by-pass. Both put down, at least in part, to too much short journey usage, and both now replaced with petrol engined cars.
  12. Where is the aerial? Sounds like it could be a frayed/broken wire, unless you’ve recently added a dashcam or the like, with insufficient cable shielding? Just guessing, really, tbh..
  13. Thanks again all, I suppose one answer is to turn the hearing aids off! 😀
  14. Thanks, I’d not realised that a decibel rating was published, that’s a help, I was just expecting recommendations from personal experience.
  15. I’ve driven 300 miles or so over the weekend and whether it’s because of my new hearing aids, but on anything but smooth roads, the tyre noise has been quite intrusive. The car is a 2018 SE L 1.4 TSI. looks like I’ll be replacing the tyres, what is recommended for producing less noise?

I like the coasting mode, yes, it keeps the engine ticking over, but there is no deceleration caused by the ‘engine braking’, so the car will go further when off the throttle. This means for instance you can lift the throttle much earlier when entering an off slip or approaching a roundabout. I first had it in a 1987 auto Vauxhall Carlton, which had no engine braking in D, you had to drop down to 2 (3 speed auto) to get overrun braking. Subsequently I have often knocked a manual car into neutral to enjoy coasting. Having this function puts paid to the argument that I often faced, that I didn’t have full control of the vehicle if coasting. If Vauxhall and Skoda (and others?) build it in... But I appreciate, as has happened before, I am in a minority 🤫
  17. Thanks, as I feared...
  18. Is there any way to cancel the ‘A’ bit of the ACC, and just have basic cruise control? I have RTFM’d but theres no mention of it. The reason is yesterday I was happily driving on a 2 lane dual carriageway, when the car in front turned onto the (short) slip road on the left, and decelerated quite sharply. My ACC picked thus up and applied the brakes, much to the annoyance of the car behind me. (And me, for that matter!) Before i am accused of travelling too closely behind, the ACC was quite happy at the distance i was previously keeping.
  19. I found my first car, a 1937 Morris 8 convertible half dismantled in a scrapyard a couple of years after I sold it. Wish I’d kept it, but at 18 you want something newer... More recently, my son-in-law took over my Rover 75 at around 154000 miles, used it for a 100 mile daily round trip commute, and sold it during lockdown at 268000 to an enthusiast. Various others - SORN or no record.
  20. Not very often, but I clean the screen regularly, and lift the wipers. But never mind...
  21. Good point, but are they now allowed to remove things, such as the boot floor and the tool insert, in order to check? Didn’t think they were, but I may be wrong.
  22. Re a clamp to hold the spare wheel in place - is one really needed? I wouldn’t have thought that it had anywhere to move to once it’s in the well. Even without, if my boot’s anything to go by, the lots of ‘stuff’ that’s packed around it...
  23. Doh! Are Gulf now sponsoring McLaren?
  24. I’ve forgotten what the McLaren/Gulf connection was. I can only relate it to the Le Mans GT40s. Can you remind me please? Thx
  25. Admittedly mine was the plug and play version for my Amundsen unit, but I couldn’t get it to work at all initially. I was convinced it was installed correctly, and that all the connections were secure. However, with nothing to lose, I pulled the glove box etc out, undid all the connections, and redid them, and it then worked perfectly. I have no idea which connector was to blame, only that one of them was! Also, I made sure that when I pushed the unit back in, it didn’t foul any of the cabling, as this might have pulled a joint slightly out of place. Possibly worth a try? Hope you can solve it.
