  1. Inevitable, I suppose.
  2. Ironic that a Mercedes powered car caused the Safety car episode. Wonder who will supply Williams’ engines next year? 👹
  3. Reminds me of ‘the Likely Lads’ episode where Bob and Terry are trying to avoid learning the England match score... tbh, I’m quite happy to know the result before I watch it, but having said that, , I intend to be be watching C4 all Sunday afternoon!
  4. Love my 18reg SE L which I’ve owned since March this year, but have noted the road noise. I must do a search on here for adding extra soundproofing. Anyone post a link? The only other concern I have is when doing say a 3 point turn, the DSG box is slow to ‘catch up’ with the change from D to R, especially if on a hill or deep camber. But otherwise, I can’t think of a better all-round vehicle - huge boot (hatchback), lovely beige interior, lots of toys, etc etc
  5. Yesterday evening this warning appeared on my Octavia’s screen, so I changed the battery, using a slightly thicker 2032 I had ‘in stock’. I must say, it’s one of the easiest methods I’ve come across - once I’d found the how-to in the manual, that is... As you do, I picked up my iPad and went to this site - I always “unread content” as one of my favourites, and surprise surprise, there was this thread prominent. Reading some of the comments, it seems I was lucky in having no problems, everything worked first time.
  6. Edit: sorry, just noticed I’m posting in the wrong forum, but I’ll leave my comment...🤫 Yes, mine is an aftermarket AliExpress TypeA, (see Wayland’s thread) and when I first installed it, it was very reluctant to work reliably. I lost count of the number of times I took the glovebox out, and lifted the tailgate lining, to check the connections. After a few months, it now works almost all of the time, occasionally frustrating, but I’m living with it.
  7. Early on in the thread it was suggested that a quick spray of WD40 into the bellows grommet would help. I tried it and it did. 🙂
  8. Admittedly 2018 car, not mk IV, but I get excellent illumination from my AliExpress aftermarket version.
  9. Spot on. Although mine is a ‘personal’ plate as well as it being unique...
  10. Each to his/her own, some look good, some look naff. Mine is unique! 😎😎
  11. OK, point taken, chaps. I was thinking of (older?) cars with a cable operated bonnet release, where there are ways of releasing the bonnet without access to the key. This was quite an issue on another forum I frequented a few years ago.
  12. Must admit I wouldn’t be overly happy at this sort of potential security info being put on a public forum, even though it is in the manual.
  13. Random thought- petrol 99.9p on page one of this thread...
  14. Ditto. I find it annoying as well, so thanks from me too.
  15. Going back to the OP’s question, another thread recently answered it, with reference to the manual (yes! I’d asked the question so was guilty of not RTFM-ing). It resets the long term at 100 hours running.
  16. As well as new wiper blades, a given imho, I would give the screen a good clean. I have used Barkeepers Friend powder - cheap from many hardware shops - followed by a coat of RainX.
  17. Many thanks, Kenny R. That means it’s not a great deal of use then, as it doesn’t look as if it can be reset manually to a convenient starting point eg holiday mileage.
  18. I’ve tried to find how long the ‘long term’ stats is on the Amundsen unit. The figure had suddenly gone down 5 or 6 mpg, and I blamed the switch to E10 petrol for this. But I now see its showing only a 100 or so miles, rather than the several thousands previously, so I assume it’s reset itself. I was hoping it would stay for the length of my ownership. So is there a way of setting it, or is it pre-programmed at say 6 months, or just random?
  19. I asked this on another thread (Octavia 3 forum). Apparently the answer is no. But like others on this thread, I have come to appreciate the benefits of ACC - often long intervals without touching either pedal, for instance. So FWIW, I’d say stick with it, and enjoy!
  20. Not a Max fan, but to come from 20th to second wasn’t a bad day’s work...
  21. Welcome to the forum... Bet the place has changed since I was there in 1970/1!
  22. Glad you got it sorted easily. Well done Halfords?
  23. Baxlin replied to JoFo82's topic in Superb Projects
FWIW, Installing a reversing camera, at least on the Octavia 3 of a similar age, is a diy project, but took me 3 hours+, and a bit of contortionism... see Wayland’s excellent how-to in the Octy 3 forum if you want to explore.
  24. Had this on my previous car, I swapped the ‘bulbs’, in order to confirm or eliminate one cause. No idea how easy this is on your Superb, on the Volvo it was dead easy, pull one pin and the whole unit lifted out.
  25. Had a bit of a chuckle while I was in town this morning. Lots of vehicles queuing at the Shell station, with at one set/lane of pumps, the first car had paid and gone, but the 4x4 behind was still filling up. So the driver of a German car, with 3 points on his star if not on his licence, dives in from the road via the ‘out’ lane, jumping the queue, and starts filling up at the vacant pump. He was maybe showing initiative, but then he takes ages to fill, and holds everyone else up, then has to negotiate reversing out onto the road, into all the traffic that is either queuing, or trying to get past.
