  1. Another option is to carefully wax the cover and surround as this should help reduce the amount of water collecting between the flap and body. Safer than getting nicked for flashing......
  2. Most likely plastic on metal on the brake pedal box. Try a bit of silicone lubricant.
  3. Leave in ‘P’, switch ignition to on, wait for all warning lights to cycle, depress brake pedal and press the start button. Once stopped at the end of the day, select ‘P’ and switch off. The DSG clutches look after themselves and the ‘P’ mode puts a pawl (locking pin) into place to lock the gearbox output shaft with the gearbox already being in Neutral.
  4. Engine combos are currently being messed up by the WLTP re-certification work so combinations are coming and going all over the place as manufacturers struggle to get all versions tested and back on the market. Škoda’s configurator is frequently ‘left behind’ or contains erroneous data. Dealers aren’t much better! To be honest these Forums usually know far more about what is and is not available that the official supply points - and that’s common across many manufacturers.
  5. I found the same on my 2015 L & K and stopped using it. It was too slow to react either way. I now have matrix LED on my 2-series and have never been flashed. It stays on auto all the time however as noted above, I find it a little too mesmerising watching the lights in action with the pattern being steered and dipped/raised as traffic conditions dictate. The downside of LED lighting is that if they ever get broken, each headlight unit (non-repairable) costs more than £2k! The matrix LED emitters are over £400 each so it’s a good thing they are supposed the last the life of the car. Are Škoda ever going to add LED to the S3?
  6. I’ve seen on here that Škoda Dealers often have to send the car to Audi Dealers for this work as they have the kit.
  7. Probably used 101 instead of 999 in case they get clobbered for ‘misdirecting’ the call at the SOS call centre. Could well be worth flagging this to the force concerned to make sure a message gets back to the supplier contact centre about classification of calls. If life and limb in immediate danger then it should be a 999 call only. Some Motorway Control Centres are now run by the Highways Agency - and that may have contributed to the delays. Not good though.
  8. Wow that takes me back! Looks like an old Technics model from the 80’s? It was good kit then.
  9. Mine failed after about a year and never worked again. Dealer fitted Tiguan parts, case passed to Škoda UK and nothing ever came back and no solution. Car long since sent back - someone on here may have it now as there aren’t many Rosso Brunello S3 LnK Estates about.
  10. Assuming a 20A fuse then the absolute maximum power draw would be 240W (20x12) but you should allow a bit of headroom so stay below ~220W to avoid stressing the fuse. Constant heating and cooling at close to maximum current causes fatigue cracks in the actual fusible link material.
  11. If you have a 3D printer (or know someone who has) you could try..... https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3117703 and make your own.
  12. Isn’t golf described as “a good walk, ruined”? Back in WLTP, manufacturers do indeed now have to test with all of the options available. I think they are only allowed to turn the BRW (or windscreen if fitted) and AC off as well as not going for as light a car as was allowed under the previous mess of loopholes! Good to see that PHEV hybrids are also coming into the VED tax bands due to the test regime lasting longer than the batteries can provide ‘zero emissions’ for. That was always a con.
  13. The only other thing to try is take the battery off for 20mins. You will get a sea of warning lights when you reconnect it, but they clear once you start the car and drive it a short distance. Given this isn’t the first time it could either be the unit has gone down or the SSD storage drive holding various parts of the system and nav data has glitched - either of which is a dealer fix required unfortunately.
  14. Stick it manual mode and select whatever gear gives you the correct level of acceleration to get past the vehicle you need to and get back over to your correct lane smoothly and at the earliest safe opportunity. Seeking economy should form no part of any planning, or in the execution of an overtake.
  15. By the age of them (three to five years) they could be both versions. The specialist used to be full of BMWs when the 1st Gen 6-speed ZF was in use, but now their yard had 70+ VW/Audi cars - only a couple of Škodas. When talking to them it was clutches that were the biggest issue. Failure to service could very well play a key part in the issues - as it so often does. When we ordered our BMW Gran Tourer 220xD to replace the Superb, two of the sales people were recent ex-VW and not very kind about the VW box version, referring to it as the Dog S*** Gearbox. What differences there are between the Škoda and other VAG cars I don’t know.
  16. Gearbox programming is simply dreadful as it tries to stay in the lowest part of the Rev range all of the time so is often in the ‘wrong gear’. You are also torque limited as the clutches can only cope with 400Nm. Your Toureg is very likely to be better than that? As above, the low end grunt isn’t there as low as it should be. Keep the Start/Stop turned off or it will catch you out at junctions, it also turns the engine off whilst the car is still rolling - but the Toureg may be the same? No other car make I have driven with Start/Stop does this! Fuel economy is in the very low 40’s, so better than the Toureg but not as good as it should be. Having seen the number of VW/Audi cars with transmission failures at our local gearbox specialist, I would stay away from anything with a DSG box again. Fine when under warranty but no way otherwise. Towing a heavy caravan may put too much load on it and you may be close to the upper limit anyway.
  17. Mine failed when the car was about a year old. Local Dealer never managed to fix it, even with parts borrowed from a VW GB Tiguan. Škoda couldn’t work out whether it was the sensor, wiring, or control hardware. Car gone now.
  18. I read that article with interest too. I made sure that I cleared everything down. And with the S3 not having a built in Sim, was easily able to remove all traces. It’s another area where a still behind the times and technology Dealer network and national customer centre do not understand the implications of what should be done. The about to be ex-Owner should be the one remembering to do it, but many of them don’t understand the tech either....... nor I suspect is it mentioned in the handbook? With BMW now also offering Office 365 on board, it could lead to some embarrassing email or document leaks - and no I haven't enabled it . It is one of the annoyances that I have with the new BMW Connected Drive. Yes the connection allows lots of fancy data to be transferred - though interestingly only to an iPad with cellular (even if it isn’t set up!). Built in Sim only, and expensive data contracts through Deutshe Telecom and whoever ‘carries’ them in the UK. Updating the maps is done 4 times a year over the air rather than via a USB stick. There is no function that I have yet found to ‘de-register’ me as the owner and therefore release the system for reassignment to a new Owner. The 220xD is on lease so will need clearing down in 4 years. Let’s hope the processes have been made easier. Anyone working with the GDPR will understand why some concern about this needs to be shown. For the WiFi, I’ve bought a 4G MiFi Router and use a PAYG Sim which means lower cost, better speeds (DT limit to 10Mbps in/2Mbps out regardless) and it’s mine rather than going via the car.
  19. Trouser pocket. I only use the storage pouch overnight. The risk of the car key signal being grabbed as you walk away from it is minute and anyone trying it would be very obvious - the antennas are 30cm squares typically. Plus you are a moving target so maintaining a ‘lock’ on the key is very difficult. The key range with the KESSY signal is very low. The problem is in homes where keys are often left near a door and therefore easy to ‘grab’. Keep the key further away or in a biscuit tin or pouch and no more problem.
  20. The entire industry is finally waking up to this. Convenience doesn’t mean ‘right to do’ and this is what happens when cyber security experts aren’t involved but bean counters are. Then add the media luvvies producing the sales brochures and all the downsides are forgotten. It will take a customer revolt, the manufacturer being made liable (unlikely in the EU) or a massive reaction from the Insurance Industry before changes will be forced. As an aside sales of Disklok and Stoplock Pro have rocketed recently. I wonder why.....
  21. I had this happen 30 years ago when my new Austin Maestro (stop laughing at the back!) got damaged in transport and was sprayed before it got to the Dealer. The only clue was after the front nearside wing lower bolt sheered off in the Winter of 1985, and when the car went in to be fixed it was found that the entire front end was out of alignment and the nearside doors had been repaired, filled and re-sprayed. The supplying Dealer knew nothing about it. I don’t know how Škoda deal with this today, but BMW have a special repair centre at Thorne in Yorkshire that repairs any shipping damage before that car goes to a Dealer. No record of the damage is passed to the Dealer. My X6 was damaged and repaired and the fix is only visible under infra red light from CCTV because the metal flake is laying slightly differently. In daylight you cannot see anything. Having spotted the change I asked BMW GB to tell the truth about it, and was told it was an ‘incontinent seagull’ on new paint. It sounds a little like your car got damaged in transport and was repaired by Škoda before the Dealer got it?
  22. Like these..... https://www.amazon.co.uk/MONOJOY-Blocking-Antitheft-Protection-Security/dp/B076KZF645/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1532953086&sr=8-3&keywords=rfid+key+pouch £7.59 a pair. Worked perfectly with my S3 with KESSY. even holding the pouch next to the car had no effect. The car could not get a signal from the key.
