  1. Interestingly, I had raised the boot stops to really secure the boot but the cabin over pressured and made the boom really noticeable and my ears really uncomfortable. I put the stoppers on lowest setting and now only notice anything when going over really bad rumble strips or surfaces, and the ear pressure has gone. I'm finally really enjoying the car now. Putting in boot well soundproofing and spare tyre did really make a big difference in reducing suspension vibrations into the boot. Like you the final step is the tyres. The potenzas are 72 db and I'm changing shortly to goodyear asymetric 3 which is 5 db less.
  2. The difference between the mk 2 and 3 is a big one in my opinion. My mk 3 quality, looks, pace, handling and ride is miles ahead of my two old mk2 VRS TDIs. I drove the new TDi and settled on the Tsi this time as i dont do the mileage anymore but If you have the finance, mk 3 the way to go :-)
  3. That's the bit that bothers me about a PCH. I like the idea as I have no real desire to own a car each time. What happens if your circumstances change such as redundancy, and you can no longer afford the payments? Is there no way of getting out of the agreement?
  4. Mine had booming and pulsing of pressure when I bought it. I've tightened boot lid tightly to prevent movement, silent coated and put isolator foam in the boot well (no wheel) and have a double layered boot mat and made sure tyres were correct pressure (really under inflated from dealer). I can't now hear the booming and car so much quieter. Its well worth damping and isolating the boot well for the £80 it cost and hour of putting in terms of noise reduction. I definitely feel its the boot well that is the biggest culprit.
  5. Thanks both. I think the Vrs is an 18inch space saver but I don't understand why I need Skods or if there is a cheaper 18 inch space saver of the same size that would fit? There seems lots of space saver wheels out there for £70???
  6. Hi all after a 4 year absence I'm back in the fold and looking forward to getting involved with the forum again :sun: I've bought a nearly new 2016 tsi VRS and disappointed to find it only has tyre goo. I apologise in advance for repetition and I have read previous posts on this, but im not technical and still non the wiser as to exactly what I need and where to get it from. I was horrified to see the price of the skoda option. Can someone please tell me in simple terms what space saver alternative to the skoda dealer option I need to buy. Cheers in advance
  7. I...must. ...make....this...post...more...interesting :-) anyone taken a pcp?
  8. Hi all Before I start getting involved with dealers i'm trying to work out if whether after discount I'll be able to get the finance deal I want. It would be great if anyone who has taken out a pcp on could give me an idea on the guaranteed minimum value they are offering after 36 or 42 months. Cheers.
  9. That's better than I managed on Conti SC5's. Only 12600 before fronts needed changing. Worst tyre wear I've ever had. I have changed them for goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 2's and tyre fitter reckons these will last significantly longer. The goodyear is noticeably more grippy and quieter than the sc5 and £116 a tyre also good value.
  10. Blimey poor chap for liking another make!!! Its good that we can look beyond old stereotypes about car manufacturers being rubbish. I'm glad no one thinks Skoda are a rubbish brand anymore lol! I love my Skoda and have had a good few over the years. I've also had my fair share of pugs starting with an old 309 as my first car. Never had problems with any of them including the 3008 I had before the vrs. Quality of that was very good. Interior nicer than vrs imo. As ever experience good and bad for any mark. However I do think pug dealers generally poorer in service but I think its now just a matter of preference once we move away from badge marketing and old preconceptions. My pennys worth anyway. Interior of 508 quality. Enjoy but don't bother with pug forums as rubbish. Not up to Briskoda :-)
  11. Blimey, I have only done 6000 miles!! I'll put clutch in when i go out in it tomorrow and see if it makes a difference. If it is the DMF it will undoubtedly get worse and then hopefully the dealer will be sympathetic as i don't want arguments about driving style!
  12. Hi all Today my car has intermittently made a loud clattery type noise when the engine is turned off. I was pulling into the supermarket and initially i thought someone was dragging a shopping trolley across the concrete but realised it was coming from my engine. I have never heard a sound like it and having no mechanical knowledge I wondered if anyone had any ideas and should i be worried on such a new car? Cheers
  13. I also had the same sense of disappointment to see the tops of the door cards are now hard plastic unlike the mk11. Although superficially it looked more modern, it didn't have the premium feel i was expecting compared to the mk 7 golf. Considering how close in price they are now, this was a shame really. I didn't come away feeling this was a must have when the time comes to change mine, although the vrs may change my mind.
  14. Thanks all, very helpful information. Interesting that Europeans visiting this country don't have to do the same with their speedos though. Sound like Skoda saving money on dash dials.
  15. Hi all I'd be grateful if new non maxidot fl VRS owners could confirm their digital display shows speed in km and not mph. Dealer says it can't be switched legally which seems odd if I am not travelling in Europe? Cheers
  16. I have a race blue with the alcantara and it looks great. I worried a bit when I ordered but so glad I did. The dealer on hand over agreed it was the best colour interior.
  17. I sat in the dealer demo picking up my VRS. It was the SE specced up with 17" wheels in silver. Looked much better on the outside than I thought and OK inside albeit vey plasticky and a mile away in quality from Octavia. Dealer agreed it wasn't as well built either.
  18. Car arrived at dealer on Monday and frustratingly I can't get out of work to pick up until Saturday, but that's the quickest new build i've ever had :sun:
  19. Indeed. I would have gladly had the blackline extras but chose not to as the only extra I couldn't go without was curtain air bags and it didn't have it .
  20. Well I had a pleasant surprise today when my dealer told me a confirmed build date of week 42 next week and expected registration for start of november. Looking like a 8/9 week process which is quick. This does seem to reinforce the idea they are clearing the decks for the Octavia 3 by building remainng orders as quick as they can
  21. VRS CR Hatch Race Blue Alcantara Trim Reversing sensors Curtain airbags spare wheel Ordered 10th September and hoping it's not 16 weeks!! (Dealer said 8 to 12)
  22. Thank you all for your comments, they really made me think. In the end I have changed my order to Race Blue. What really swung it was the wife saying I don't have enough time to do all the odd jobs around the house never mind spending all my time washing a b••••y car !
  23. I have made the mistake of reading this forum's discussions on the best VRS colour after I have ordered a black magic. I love the colour but read on how hard it is to keep it looking good. It was a choice between black and blue. Is it really that hard and have I done the wrong thing. I only ordered on Monday so there's time to change my mind but any thoughts of those who have black and blue would be helpful. I want the black and red alcantara trim and if I did change colour, I would still want this as I don't like the white trim on standard seats and worry that a blue car and black seats with red trim will look wrong. Aagh!
  24. Blimey, that is quick! Maybe the changeover towards the end of november for Octavia 3 might mean we get the cars quicker than usual?
  25. Well after a long absence after foolishly selling my old VRS PD, I have convinced the wife that the new deals are too tempting and have place my order. Just waiting for christmas delivery! Looking on the forum its still the best so I'm saying hello and looking forward to contributing to the debates again :sun:
