Decent indie garage in Reading, Berkshire at all??
Reading is nothing special. Think of it more as a city than a town. I know several indie mechanics locally. The one I use is well versed with the VAG range, has the complete VCDS/Rosstech setup and is the only one I'd trust with my Octy. If he doesn't have the kit to do what you need, he'll have sources who can. What do you need doing?

Polestar 2 Reveal & 7 minute recap.
Why do EV designers insist on having an iPad glued to the dash and sticking out sore thumb style, like this? Is this the best they can come up with?

Random spring found in passenger footwell??
Oh that's interesting.... I found the same thing knocking around in my car when I first got it, and never figured out where it came from!

WARNING Remote locking vulnerable to attack
Pretty much all vehicles can be opened, tweaked and driven away using non-destructive methods... Indeed, there are people who specialise in this sort of thing though many have a legitimate business employing such methods, mainly when you forget/lose your key. What keeps the thieves away is how much of a pain in the backside the methods are, and how much money they'd lose by using destructive methods to acquire your motor. A security measure may be a slight, mild or even moderate inconvenience (look at motorcycle chains, disclocks and the like), but it's probably far less of one than having to walk home in the piddling rain and freezing cold because someone easily nicked yer wheels...

iPhone 12 - recommend me a case
I was somewhat wary of Spigen, based on how often I saw them either peeling, and/or cracking around the camera cut-out on their S21 series. Most cases seem open-fronted now, to allow for curved screens.

iPhone 12 - recommend me a case
Dunno if they do 'em for iPhones, but Otterbox cases have always been my preference. They always get the best reviews in terms of protection, although the high end ones are a little bulky.

Latest EV's with Tail Lights that are the whole width of the rear of the car. WTF is it with some Designers / Manufacturers?
I quite like it, to be honest.... I just wish they'd styled the rest of the car to match the '1980s Cool' as well. Perhaps they could bring back the Vector W8, with a few modern features?

Touch screens in Cars
They're in this to make money - They're subhuman and so don't count any more... and they probably know full well, but still don't give a flip. They're the sheep from which the above-mentioned money is to be made - Again, drivelling subhumans who would likely never even read such articles anyway.

Touch screens in Cars
Did they need to write the article? Was it not already blindingly obvious to people?

Digital directions sign.
The roads could be closed due to works, in which case this sign could reflect this and be updated far quicker than your SatNav.... the fact that the council/HA likely wouldn't actually get around to the alterations for weeks is what lets the technology down.

Dog Harnesses
I have chest harnesses and full-length MOLLE coats, both with D-rings to which is affixed an adjustable strap that clicks into the seat belt buckle. They're the easiest and most convenient for three medium-large dogs. The wife has her CRV's entire boot padded, with a guard cage.

Good Online Places for Replacement Number Plates
What needs configuring in the configurator? If it's bog standard, that should be the default setting... and all of them should be legal. Long as you don't mind them advertising their business on the lower edge of your registration plate, in "massive 10mm high lettering", most places should be just fine.

VW Group to phase out manual gearboxes
I'm also in the minority. I find that the more stuff gets automated, the lazier drivers become, myself included. It's the first step to fully eliminating the human from the equation.

The MG 4 and 5 EV and Maxus vans - Game changing cars & vans from SAIC
I have to say, the MG5 looks mostly like a proper car inside, which actually has me far more interested than most EVs. The Marvel makes the usual mistake of eliminating most of the controls and just slapping an iPad on the dash.

Ease of servicing
Often a car is designed from the outside in, meaning the engineers have to figure out how to fit everything into whatever whacky design that the designers have come up with.

OBDEleven on the Mk1?
The mechanic who helps me look after my MkI seems to think so. Which modules are supposedly inaccessible, according to these comments?

GB stickers no longer valid
I object - How dare the United Kingdom advertise itself on my registration plates without my permission!!

Cherished number: dealership using number plate for 'free' advertising
I know what you asked, but the question itself is loaded with your own presuppositions and, as such, your views are inseparable from it. You cannot have an opinion on the situation as presented, if it is not presented without bias. You should have first asked whether we agree that it is advertising in the first place, followed by asking whether we agree with your perspective on the matter, before finally asking what we think of the situation if the first two premises are found in the affirmative. As I believe I made clear enough, I find that the subtle and discrete use of a website is in no way intended to be advertising in any useful way, and that I find several other justifiable and unrelated uses for including the website (some already mentioned), I therefore have no problem with the dealer or plate manufacturer including their business details on something they have produced. As for the history of your car ownership - That is not really relevant because times change, as do laws, and ignorance of them does not prevent them from still affecting you.

Cherished number: dealership using number plate for 'free' advertising
No, I get the point.....[Redacted] I get that you "see no reason why" on a lot of things, seemingly because you just don't want to understand and appreciate the rest of the world's perspective on things, and that you expect the world to be the way you want it without you having to make the effort and tell it so in advance... My wife is a bit like that. It's hilarious! I work for a large company. 35,000 employees, and we're a well-known name. Consequently, we have a lot of stuff with our logos and slogans plastered all over it. If you look reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal close at every single item, you'll find that each will also bear the name and website of whoever manufactured and/or printed our logo on the item. It's standard practice throughout the world. I see no reason why you should feel justified in getting your knickers in a twist just because you don't like how the rest of the world works. If you want to break it down to the basics - Did you make the company aware, *before* they started the work, that you officially and formally did not grant them express permission to do what is regarded as standard practice within their industry? If not... tough. You failed to specify a non-standard element of the work, so you have no grounds for complaint.

Cherished number: dealership using number plate for 'free' advertising
OK, sure.... A teeeny tiny 10mm high website URL, which provides a trail of accountability in the event that your plates are deemed illegal for some reason, is not exactly ADVERTISING... and I put that nice and big, because advertising is all about getting your name and brand right out there where everyone can see it, rather than tucking it away somewhere they'll hardly even notice unless they're kissing your exhaust pipe. People are more likely to spot the branding on one of your car parts, like the Audi rings on the brake calipers or the manufacturer's details on the wall of your tyres, but I doubt you're grinding any of those off!! If anything, I'd say the makers of something have every right to put their mark on something they made. Moreover, you seemed to have no objection to the dealer's name and postcode, which themselves are as much advertising as the website, and which is a little hypocritical I think and just being overly picky. The dealer's name is the key element as far as advertising goes, and with the world changing, arguably the website is more relevant than a postcode given how many businesses are essentially digital-only nowadays. It's at the point where the website address is more of an identifier than the company name. Anyone looking to get in touch with that dealer will first and foremost look to see if they have a website, even if it's just to get the phone number. Far quicker than looking up the postcode, tracing the address, and then going along to have a word with them. As for a 'tradesman'... Not quite. I work for a water utilities company, so we generally turn up to fix your catastrophes whether you like it or not... and for all the time we're there, be it hours, days or sometimes even weeks, we're sporting our big logos and branded signage in various highly visible manners.

Cherished number: dealership using number plate for 'free' advertising
So if I have to come and fix a catastrophic water leak at your house, or something, do I have to remove all the company livery (ours and the manufacturers') from our vans and plant, so as not to get free advertising off the back of your trauma? .

Cherished number: dealership using number plate for 'free' advertising
Presumably you're going to rip off all your car badges and other branding as well, since those are technically 'free advertising' that your car was built by Škoda...

Would you sell the car you love and why not?
I don't know your exact financial situation, but it depends on the person. If it's some know-it-all interfering busybody (mother-in-law, perhaps?) then either point out that the cars won't sell for much anyway, due to being a niche interest item, or just tell them to **** off. Financial advisors will obviously suggest things like liquidating any assets you have, but really it comes down to which you prefer - Having a nice car, or being able to eat.

Best climate control setting for driving through a Coronavirus hotspot?
Unless your vehicle has full NBC (or CBRN) protective measures, including oxygen recycling systems, there is no setting that will help you. Accept your fate and drive on through. Based on your profile pic, you should have already had your vaccinations anyway, so there's nothing to worry about. /thread.

ABS usage
Activated it on my wife's car several times, as has she. Not managed it on my own car, though. I've often found teh advice from Police drivers (and riders) is to never try to anticipate what other drivers will do, because they'll always do the one thing you didn't anticipate... but rather, leave them enough room to make whatever mistakes they're going to make, and yourself enough room to escape from them!
