DSG gearbox oil replacement
Yeah, that oil does seem a bit pricy. I thought that quote was for the job but it's just the parts.

DSG gearbox oil replacement
My regular garage, a VAG independent said they didn't service DSGs but put me in touch with the local man who does. He quoted me about £300. (Vague number because the guy gave me a rapid-fire list of prices of oil, filter, labour over the phone and then finished with "Plus the VAT!" and I didn't have a pen handy.) and it's a while you wait service. He said the gearboxes themselves are bulletproof mechanically, with the mechatronic unit being the weak point, but it was no bother to sort out. He was very complimentary about the DQ381's reliability, and said oil changes were really for the benefit of the clutches. I'll probably get it don't next year at 6 years and around 26K miles.

Sudden loss/blip in power.
That is really useful! Thanks for the tip! 👍

EA888 Gen3B - Tuning options for the 2.0 190PS TSI
That is very impressive. 👌 Are you planning to increase the frequency of your oil changes? I assume your oil will be working pretty hard. I guess you're looking at improving braking and suspension, too?

Heading Back to Skoda
Hello and welcome! 👋 My sister-in-law has a 2018 Ecoboom engined car, and she's already had a gearbox failure and I keep warning her about the wet belt system but she's not really interested in hearing it. I am looking forward to a delightful "I told you so!" when it all goes pear-shaped. 😄 Good luck on your hunt for a Skoda that's right for you! 👍

No blanks in the Console Button Bar ?
I'm late to the party as usual, but I really wish we could add buttons with functions to this area. Or at least have it do something useful. I can't say it bothers me to have so many blank "buttons" in the console, but it does slightly irritate me that I have to go through the infotainment system for functions that could be activated with a simple button press.

Dropped a piece of dry pasta into windscreen air vent
That's a tricky one. I would suggest first cornering so you position the pasta to one side or the other, so at least you know where to "fish". Secondly, I'd use something sticky on the end of a long cable tie to fish for the pasta. If you can firmly affix some nano-tape to the cable tie, that stuff is sticky and doesn't leave residue, but obviously you don't want to drop anything else down there, particularly something sticky. Have you tried looking through the windscreen into the vent from outside with a powerful torch to see if you can see the pasta?

Non-fault Claim Questions
I can recommend Saga car insurance. 😋 (Seriously though, they are very good for the over-50's, but not the cheapest.)

Coasting, pcv valve
I assume that's a DSG-equipped vehicle?

the truth about electric cars
There's so much low hanging fruit to harvest when it comes to improving air quality, but the focus often seems to be one of using improving air quality as an excuse to raise additional revenue. I'd ban garden fires and patio heaters. Garden fires knock out a surprising amount of pollution (or maybe not that surprising), and if you're worried about global warming/climate change, any device specifically designed to raise the local outside temperature seems very much out of place.

Coasting, pcv valve
I cannot say how this is done on the Scala.
-
Coasting, pcv valve
This is something I've thought about, and I'm using ECO mode less now, as when in drive mode, lifting the throttle gives better fuel economy than coasting with the engine idling, though with a penalty of a loss of speed. Cruise control works down to 20mph and seems to give optimal economy, if you pick a sensible speed, and don't lock the car to a speed just below a gear upchange.

Can you clarify this please, if you didn't exchange details?

Satnav update - idiot guide!
Hi @WorkHorse, what a pain for you! IIRC, Skodas can be a bit fussy about what memory cards it will work with. Are you using the original Skoda branded memory card? EDIT: Whoops! Just read you are dealing with a Skoda card. I assume you still are using that card?

Hi @cheezemonkhai, can you move this to the Superb forum for @MANUTDSTOTT when you have a moment, as he stands a better chance of getting an answer there. 👍

Infotainment
Hello and welcome! Yes, it's caused a few people a bit of bother. Is it misbehaving, or are you get irritated at the removal of some of the manual controls that have been replaced with touchscreen controls? Or even both! 😄

the truth about electric cars
Beyond this, EV lease costs have shot up, which may be a knock-on of the increased insurance costs. (Possibly due to a very cautious approach when repairing crash-damaged EVs. Even a whiff of a damaged battery and it's replaced.) A colleague at work leases a Hyundai Tucson and his lease is up in January. There's no way he can afford to replace it with another under the lease scheme, as the cost of the new lease is ... Bah! I can't remember the exact difference and don't want to pull a number out of thin air, but I recall it was three figures/month more than his current PHEV Tucson when he showed me.

Octavia buying: gearbox, trim and engine trade offs
You make a good point. I can't recall the last time I saw a Camry around by me. Everyone seems determined to drive around in some flavour of SUV.
