Call the AA or RAC. I think you can join immediately and they know a few sly tricks. You are right, the car is deadlocked. The manual says occupants can't open the car from the iside when it's like that.

Did the car lock itself? I know if I unlock mine but don't open the driver's door it locks itself after a short delay. And if you only unlock the boot, that locks when you close it. My wife did that with the keys in the boot.

Fair enough. You can ask another Octavia user to try it in his car. I suspect the garage broke one of the pins in the car's SD card reader. It's a bit of luck that it still functions at all. Did you fully format (not quick-format) the Skoda SD card? Not essential but does correct any errors on the card's file system.

I think it's a faulty nut behind the steering wheel. I ask again, have you unzipped the download? Can you post any screenshots from File Explorer? Are you using a Windows PC?

You can't update the SatNav with a USB drive. Nor can you use a 'spare SD card'. The SatNav is looking for a special code written on the SD card in a protected partition.. Have you unzipped all the files from the download? The file you download is compressed and has to be uncompressed before use. You must use the Skoda SD Card. You need to move the Maps folder already on this to a computer for a backup and then move the new Maps folder onto the Skoda SD Card.

Why can't you update the SD card?

The resistance goes up as they heat up. They draw 100mA hot so 1.2W each. Just test the fuses in the engine bay and see which one is switched and piggy back off that.

You take the SD card home and update it on a computer with an SD card reader. You can update the Ents system with a USB stick but not the Nav. You don't need to buy a new SD card.

I suspect the card has been forced in when in the wrong way and this has knackered the card reader. Test the card in a USB reader connected to a computer and see if it is readable. The update has to to be downloaded on a Windows PC or a Mac and unzipped onto the card. Is your SatNav in the car working?

Was this in darkness? The driving lights at the front will be on in daylight but there are no driving lights at the rear (at least on my Yeti).

Ergonomics are going backwards! It's much easier to control the heat/demist/face/foot distribution with a rotary knob than sliders - you remember where they 'point'. The new rotary knobs are digitised and only command an increase or a decrease. I like controls that move where you want an effect to move. I chose my kitchen hob because the four heat controls were laid out in the same pattern as the 'rings'. The great LJK Setright often wrote about this. If you ask someone who wears a digital watch the time and ask them again ten minutes later, they can't remember and have to look again. If you try this with a person wearing an analogue watch they will say, 'it's nearly ten o' clock or it's about half past three, as appropriate'.

On my phone is version 7.7.2. On Play Store it's also 7.7.2 last updated 11/11/2020. But on my laptop, when I go to Play Store it says 'installed', last updated 10/12/2020 and version 3.5.5. Go figure!

No it hasn't. Leave the old version alone and wait for the update. 🤗

I believe you, but why uninstall first? The app will update itself automatically. Just be patient!

I have MySkoda installed on my Android phone. I check daily, but there is no update yet. It was supposed to be available ' after 4/12/20 and after 10/12/20 for iPhone.

I have tested them now. I used a Flir thermal imaging camera. The ambient temperature was 10°C and the heated part reached 46°C.

One culprit could be an after-market oil filter which has no check valve / non-return valve. But it could now be too late if engine starts have lacked oil pressure for a year or more.

I have not fitted them yet but will hook one up to 12V and see how hot it gets. As it draws only about 100mA it will only be 1.2 Watts but I did feel a little warmth when I did the load test.

My manual says the jets are heated when the engine is running and the ambient temperature is below +10°C

A delay could be dangerous if your windscreen is obscured!

I did my wind chill experiment. A fan blowing air on a digital thermoter wrapped in a bit of kitchen paper towel. Dry bulb 22°C Wet bulb 17°C Vodka bulb 13°C This was 37.5% ABV This explains why screenwash jets can freeze up at 0°C ambient when the concentration is good for -10°C (my fan does not equate to 40mph so evaporative cooling could be greater).

Most are rentals and the drivers clueless.
