the truth about electric cars
Nothing on a vehicle is IP65 sealed, a vehicle is not designed to operate underwater.

the truth about electric cars
By the words directly preceeding my conclusion. I'm surprised you should need to ask the question, try reading more carefully. We have no idea of what the dealer said or is saying, only what the driver claims. Unfortunately or perhaps fortunately I have had many experiences going back decades of peoples behaviour when they are hiding the facts and the signs they give off. Had there not been flooding on that evening I would not have commented but equally the subject would never have been raised.

“Engine must be running”
Re the electronic battery testers, it sounds like at least 3 of us have them. I have found that the battery has to be disconnected from the vehicle otherwise it will give highly pessimist readings even with a brand new fully charged battery. I have also noticed the difference in the DIN/SAE readings but remember they are different testing regimes so the same new battery would give a different AH output according to which test method was used. The temperature should not be an issue, the testers report the off load voltage and temperature and make corrections for them, without that every battery on a stop-start car charged to only 75% would be condemned by the tester.

the truth about electric cars
The key word is "submerged" and not water ingress. Owner drives through flood and vehicle stops, breakdown services called out, large repair bill, "how can the weather be my fault?" 🤔 You could get the same abdication of responsibility for their own acts from a driver of a diesel vehicle that had hydro-locked but it would not be seized on by the media. Reports breakdown at 10pm, vehicle collected within 3 hours and the owner made more than one complaint about lack of service the following day. not the best way to get good service but indicative of the aggressive behaviour of someone hiding the facts. He evens says that he expected to get a bill of £500 to £1000 so knows he is responsable for the damage.

Does anyone have the wiring diagram for an Octavia Mk1 Fuel Flap release please?
Connector A4 is a likely candidate.

Huge jump in premium!
Why the big difference between the above 2 sets of figures written only 10 weeks apart?

Struggling to figure out as to why my fuel mileage/range seems to go down quick
Range is calculated as explained above, all things being equal its pretty accurate to just under 1/2 a tank at which point both the fuel guage and the indicated range drop far quicker than the actual fuel consumed, this is to create a virtual reserve capacity of 5-7 litres of fuel remaining when the tank shows zero and remaining miles show zero, I always drive another 50-80 miles after that point and in doing so I can refill to very close to the actual fuel tank capacity and have a range that equals what is shown straight after the fill up. I can usually judge mine down to the last couple of litres and have not run out yet which would be undesirable with the common rail engine, on my last 800km autoroute journey I refilled with 59.4 litres after holding out for the exit and cheaper fuel station that I wanted, that was cutting it a bit fine.

Huge jump in premium!
But you are regarded as a higher risk accident magnet by the insurers hence your premium increase.

the truth about electric cars
Please stick by your words this time, it was only a few days ago you said you were stopping, not sure if it was this thread or not but it was the same nonsence, I don't think you even stopped for breath.

the truth about electric cars
Its not that I doubt what you said, I know that your words I quoted were rubbish and were nothing to do with a mechanic checking for a misfire and everything to do with the pool of burning diesel shown in the photos of the car park fire, a fuel which you say can only burn in an engine cylinder under massive compression to support your contention that the flames are from a lithium battery pack. I honestly think you dont know half the time what you are writing or what you have written, even when people quote it directly you go off on some tangent. n people quote it directly you go off on some tangent.

the truth about electric cars
Rubbish, diesel burns at atmospheric temperature when vaporized and exposed to an ignition source, at which point the fire is self sustaining. It was used for heating and lighting long before the Diesel engine was invented and continues to this day.

the truth about electric cars
Of course I have, I have worked with it several times. Why ask a dumb question instead of addressing my sarcastic assertion that hundreds of the vehicles in the car park would (not) have been so equipped? You just get funnier and funnier with your projection 😀 Am I allowed to not read it and not make the claim which I was never going to make anyway?

Huge jump in premium!
I suppose I should stop whinging that my car insurance has risen to €180 = £155

Huge jump in premium!
They dont need to. Any more than the company that quoted you £4.3K needs to justify their price. But as you are looking for justification of why Direct Line taking over BBM who were giving up because of spiralling claims (according to you) would increase your premium then the obvious would be:

the truth about electric cars
For someone who sermonises that all others have closed minds I am surprised that you did not include WMD in your possibilities! "A simple nitrous oxide kit........................." Good point there must be hundreds of those amongst the parked cars, laughing gas is not something anyone reading this topic will need.

Thank you, its as I thought, you are right to challenge the notion of "Free car" but it is in my view free when compared to someone not in reciept of benefits and who has to save the money to purchase a vehicle, pay for all its repairs and maintenance and insurance out of their own funds that they have worked for. Comparable to a company car where the driver will have paid extra taxes. The point I was making is that the OP (not knowing their situation) could well be in a big hole through losing their vehicle through the actions of someone who had not the same investment in theirs and for whom a new vehicle will be provided relatively painlessly, the same as if it were a company car.

It was based on what you wrote in the last couple of weeks about how your vehicles were paid for. What is PIP? Money recieved to purchase a car or for transport/adaption etc? That is what I meant by having no (personal) financial investment in, it would have been the same comment if it were a company car driven negligently that had caused the accident. If the PIP recipent gets another Motability vehicle at the end of the 3 year period what happens to the £2K that you speak of, is it lost and they have to stump it up again or does it or a portion of it roll over? I have always considered you a canny Scot, you have several vehicles of your own so I assumed that you would not have an additional Motability vehicle if it wasn't financially beneficial.

Battery light coming on and off
A replacement alternator is hundreds of times more likely to fail than you existing factory fitted one once fitted with a new brush pack/regulator although the reliability of those wont be as good as the original. My MK1 wore its brushes out after about 200K miles but in far fewer years so yours are probably worn/sticking, with a new brushpack/regulator it was still going strong at 325000 miles. Replacement alternators are poor quality compared to factory fit and always have been. You are lucky to have good access to yours judging by the photo, it will be easier to replace the brushpack/regulator than change the alternator.

All the ingredients for a recipé for disaster. Cars parked on pavement both sides of the road. Driver on mobile phone. Driving free car that they dont have any investment in. Expect to be doorstepped by some very aggressive recovery drivers either from your insurer or Direct Line insisting that they take your vehicle away, don't let them! Direct Line being pro-active will probably contact you to try and use their claim handling service, courtesy car, repairers (unlikely in this instance) etc, as you have no personal injury that might not be a bad thing, they are pretty good.

Android head unit - straight swap option for Bolero gone wrong...Help!!
I might have one of those in mine yet to be discovered. I could never use the factory Bluetooth because it would not look for a new phone and kept bringing up messages about previous phones which could not be deleted, I tried and then lost the will to live. My head unit worked but I kept getting error messages saying the factory bluetooth module could not connect to the radio (no surprise) so I had to disconnect it like you and also remove it from the Can gateway installation list as it then showed no comms with the ECU. The Bluetooth on the head unit on the previous Octavia was really rubbish, microphone in wrong place and it wanted pairing again everytime I restarted the car so I have not even bothered trying with this Chinese head unit, it has enough flakiness already without trying another function. But I have a perfectly serviceable factory Bluetooth module with the factory microphone in the correct position, does anyone know if this could talk to and work with the Chinese head unit or does it have to be the OEM basic radio which I would not revert to.

Car Park Fires, Transporters / Ships, any fires, any EV,s involved or not thread, were they the cause just there and so made fighting the fire harder.
Fire under bonnet for whatever reason like 99 percent are melts fuel line fuel drains from tank by gravity and runs downhill from there. It looks exactly like every other ICE vehicle fire that I have seen and caused which is sadly far too many That's what comes from having a certain minority group all around you.

@@Lee Lee, you seem to have access to plenty of Viz cartoon PDF's, do you have any of a Simian Semen powered Range Rover? I tried but it still looks Bronze coloured to me.
