  1. I once had a car that did this and the boot light was staying on, I had to drop the seats to find out.
  2. Electrical gromets for use on a metal back box, excellent idea. Love the thread, keep at it.
  3. They sell a similar generic version at home bargains, it's a bit too small for the Octavia but it still works well enough. Can't find it online sorry.
  4. On any vehicle they reduce spray on fast roads. I'm sure they keep the vehicle a bit cleaner.
  5. Could it be you have an Amundsen unit? f it does need a card, ie not Columbus then try this. Before i risked trying to update my nav (2019 MY Octavia) I decided to buy an SD card from ebay and download to that so that if I messed it up I could put the OE card back in, the ebay card was a genuine Skoda card and worked, including the update, and my own card works too, so I just flip the cards when I update so I can just go back 1 set of maps if the worst happens. So I'd suspect someone who needed a card nicked yours, and if you buy one from ebay it will work as long as its a genuine cars. (My seller was from Czech repuplic - cheap there.)
  6. Ah the good old days of a 128mb card. Now when I were a lad ... I do have issues with the card contents - album art mostly works but not always. And the new MP3 something format doesn't work either. I can't see where on windows media player to change the option to rip and save tracks to simply mp3 or mp4 - they both work.
  7. Yeah its a pain, you need a very small funnel and it'll squeeeze past the restriction, otherwise at some point you'll pour a tad too much and it'll spill over the engine then drip on someone's lovely new block paved drive and cause a bit of bother. I got a set of 3 small orange funnels from somewhere (probably toolstation) and they work a treat - on of em fits. On the sump plug front if its like the Octavia it's plastic and large so dont look for a nut.
  8. Bolts work by stretching (Hookes law). The pressure on the bolts is reduced when other bolts are holding as tight or tighter, so If I release the locker first the other bolts are sharing the load. Same when re fastening. The other 4 bolts are squeezing the wheel to the rim already so less pressure on the locker - and I don't fasten them quite as tight. When I've had lockers fail it's been the head that fails, in that you can't put sufficient force on them to undo the nut - what caused the failure who knows - but If it helps then it's worth it. You have 5 to tighten and undo so it's the same work anyway.
  9. A lot of Jap cars have no tilt sensor on the alarm, a lot of cars made for the Jap market don't have an alarm - they don't need one. They add one for exports but more as an afterthought. I always losen the locker firts and tighten it last to try and minimise the stress on the bloody things having had several fail over the years.
  10. Ah from Dunfirmline? Then as a canny Scott I'm shocked you didnt wait until 1.61mm tread was left 😑
  11. Damn it, everyone hates a smart arse!! 😁 It passed, no advisories. I had a walk down the road to Lightcliffe Skoda while it was in the garage, had a look at the new octavia Vrs and a large 4x4 Kodiac. Both looked absolutely superb. The salesman tried to show me the VRS and said the boot was a bit smaller than mine, but he couldn't show me because the showroom vehicle - a hybrid - was flat, and was locked up. Doors were open - the inside was lovely but I would like to see a heated front screen and front seats too for that kind of cash.
  12. The time has come for my first MOT, I must have had the Octavia nearly 2 1/2 years. I'm confident it'll pass, I've got new winter tyres on and new wiper blades, no issues with the car so far, in fact I love it. But never the less fingers crossed ...
  13. Oh the irony. The "older system" that works. Why is it that so many advances in tech make things harder? I don't wish for the return of the cd player or the cassette - but an SD slot can store hundreds of albums and works, why change it?
  14. I play it from an SD card, it does keep its place - I put all tracks into folders (By artist as an album) I wonder if that helps? and the album art does disply - but the image file has to be tiny. I was getting album art from https://musicbrainz.org/ Even then some of it is too big and you have to use editing software to make the files smaller. An easy way to do it is to send it to yourself on Email, you get the option then to shrink the file size straight away. Not tried a USB stick sorry, hope that helps.
  15. I think they'd look even better with a coat of gloss black hammerite on em. You could get wheel ttrims if desired, but for ease of cleaning better left as is. Croq does have a point, we fit expensive alloys that end up scuffed and can't weigh much less than steel wheels - they certainly feel heavy when changing them. Steelies with a chrome hub cap and painted stardust silver would look fine I think.
  16. No noticable noise increase with any panel filter I've fitted mate.
  17. About 1% extra with a pipercross panel filter, 245 made 298bhp with superchips map and 302bhp with map and filter. Hardly earth shattering but as I keep cars a few years I think a cleanable filter is a good option anyway. I was pleased to scrape over the 300 mark, but to be honest it's difficult getting the power down until 3rd gear anyway. I've kept the original paper filter to stick it in if I need to while the panel filter dries after a clean, but on my last 2 cars I've just cleaned them on a hot day and they dry in the sun pretty fast anyway. It did make me wonder how a 1% gain in a 60bhp Corsa or something would feel.
  18. Hey I had the same thing. It never worked so I gave up. Good luck.
  19. Ah bugger. Dreadful. I was assuming they all took a card as the first guy said he lost the card. Sometimes it really is a cast that we are overcomplicating stuff where a sofware hitch can bugger everything up and no manual method to fall back on. I have the cash for a new car and I'm tempted every now and again, but some of the new glitches are really putting me off. My car is just under 20,000 miles and would be about half the value of a new model. I don't think they are twice as good - so for now I'm sticking with a Dec 2018 vRS.
  20. Interesting threrad, my car is 3 yrs old in December, I might give it a trickle (4ah) charge before winter sets in after reading this.
  21. Buy a new sd card from ebay, I did this as a precaution because I didn't want to risk messing up the nav. A card from Czech republic was less than £20 and it worked. I am presuming a new card would sort the problem?
  22. Good call, whenever we go walking or climb a hill I end up having to hose off my mats. I ended up getting 2 sets so I can swap 'em while one dries. I would be ok with cheap ones, more of an occasional user. I wonder if you could cut them out using cloth mats as a template? Not ideal I know.
  23. One of the reasons I chose Dunlop sport maxx was the lower DB noise rating. Though I can't remember what it was now!! 68 maybe?
