  1. Indeed yes. The rears are on my list of things to do before next MOT. Have read that the parking brake needs to be reset once done.
  2. There is another long thread relating to this elsewhere. A common fault usually remedied ( sometimes only temporarily ) by fitting a new glove box lid. By all accounts a design fault that was never fixed.
  3. I think the fronts would be quicker than the rears as there is no need to mess about with the parking brake/VCDS settings.

17" rims seem to be as rare as hen's teeth. I ended up getting a 16" rim with an oversize tyre to even out the difference. It is legal to do this but recommended as a short term fix only until you get the original tyre fixed.
  5. Nor me, however this time I think I just got lucky.
  6. The fitter may have followed the same process but it wasn't mentioned when I got the keys back. They had been dicking me about for 3 weeks with a broken balancer issue so maybe he did try a bit harder to get it right when fitting the new ones.
  7. Thanks for the reply Toot. I'm not sure if the fitters reset the TPMS or not. I checked the pressures after I got home and tweaked them all to 32psi which is where they should be for lightly loaded vehicle. Did nothing else at this stage but after about 100 miles the TPMS warning light came up on the dash. Checked the pressures again when the tyres had cooled to ambient and they were all within a knats of where they should be. A final tweak then reset the TPMS.
  8. I finally managed to get a couple of new front tyres fitted to my Superb over the weekend but unfortunately the tyre fitter's balancing machine was out of action ( been nearly 3 weeks now!!! ) Anyhow, I got a refund for the balancing that they couldn't do and was going to pop in somewhere else to get it done however after a quick blast up the motorway at speeds of up to ~75mph the wheels are showing no obvious signs of needing balancing, ie no shaking or vibration of the steering or generally. I did a further 130 motorway miles over the weekend with no signs of trouble. Have I just struck lucky or should I have them checked out anyway?
  9. Wow, that is A LOT of oil for a gearbox. More than what goes in my engine!
  10. Without wishing to hijack this thread, I'm having trouble accessing expected screen options for a clutch reset/adaptation using my VCDS. I get as far as Selecting Control Module > 04 Basic Settings > at which point I should get a drop down box with options such as ' 02294 Main Pressure Valve Calibration', ' 02295 Clutch Valve Calibration' and '02298 Clutch Engagement Point Adaptation' amongst others. Unfortunately I get none of these. I've queried this on RossTech forum but answers have not been particularly useful. It appears that many of the tutorials are based on old tech versions of the VCDS whereas my modules use UDS protocol ( whatever that is ) If anyone has successfully carried out or could advise as to how I can perform a clutch reset on a DQ200 with UDS protocol transmission I would be eternally grateful. Screenshot below is as far as I've got. Could anyone suggest which options I should select and what I might expect to see /experience when I do? Additionally, should the engine be running when these adjustments are selected?
  11. Well week 3 and guess what... still no working balancer. Nonetheless got them to fit the tyres and deduct the cost of balancing from the invoice ( this will be done by their 'Internet Dept' apparently ) Took it for a quick spin on the motorway up to 70mph with no noticeable vibration so wondering whether they need balancing at all. Thoughts/advice on this?? Both were front tyres btw.
  12. Much prefer the leatherette look to the furry Alcantara.
  13. Me too and have had no need to change that mindset since 1980 ( when I passed my test ). I'd only maybe consider it if I was driving on snow or ice.
  14. Very poor, however in my case it's not Halfords.
  15. That is an option but I would then forfeit the "free fitting & balancing" sweetener.
  16. More a case of what I haven't had done today. For the 2nd Saturday in a row I got a call from the tyre fitters to tell me their wheel balancer is still out of action and could I re-book for next weekend. This is a chain rather than an independent so the fact that they have been unable to fit a tyre for the last two weeks must mean a whole lot of money is not being earned, so is this a kosher excuse or just BS?. Tyres were ordered and paid weeks ago for so wondering whether its a case of they just haven't turned up yet. As & when they finally get done I'll maybe name names.
  17. Never done it but looks like a smart upgrade.
  18. You would need access to a VCDS or similar to code it. Skoda will do it for you but there are also plenty of independents that have the capability.
  19. Mine has some around the two bolt holes behind the rear number plate. Only spotted this when I took the plate off because it hadn't been fixed properly. The holes in the plate were drilled too close together so the plate had a bow in it and let dirt/muck etc build up between the plate and the boot skin. .
  20. Wow, 70 litres...you must have been running on vapours. I'm currently getting low 60's now the weather has turned a bit milder.
  21. We have occasional similar issues with LCD displays at work. The usual cause is dust getting into places it shouldn't. A quick brush out generally fixes it.
  22. All well and good until you come to sell the car, then what?
  23. Still has a 'long throw' DSG shifter which isn't exactly on trend at the moment. Would have thought they'd have shrunk it down as other VW/Audi models have done.
  24. I use screenwash ( see Toot's pic above ), neat on paper towel roll, then buffed up with a tea towel. Works well.
