  1. Good pics. Was it a straightforward job?
  2. That's what I'll do as well. If I don't post on this again, you can assume it's fixed. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  3. Nice looking car. Just get the most watertight warranty you can when you buy.
  4. I know about the reverse gear sweep, and it does this whenever circumstances dictate. The random rear screen sweep when in Drive is a new one, having never witnessed it previously in my 3 years of ownership.
  5. I noticed yesterday that my rear wiper did a sweep without me operating the switch on the steering column. Only spotted it once so I assumed I must have knocked the switch without realising. Then this morning on the way to work it did it twice more. (It was raining on both occasions) The front wipers are set to Auto so only operate when rain is detected on the screen and this works as intended. Does the rear wiper also have an Auto function that I'm not aware of?
  6. Makes sense. If the starter turns, the engine 'aint seized - unless you've stripped the flywheel or starter sprocket which is V unlikely.
  7. If there is an air lock, could you not run a length of hosepipe down the filler neck and burp it out?
  8. Indeed...My premium went up 45% this year, no claims or changes from last year. A comparison with other providers showed no improvement to the renewal quote. Have just read an article in the Grauniad stating that spare parts are in short supply with extended delivery times to dealers which in some instances are causing insurance companies to write off perfectly good cars because the spares are not available.
  9. Update: 4 months on and still shake free🙂 Looks like I got lucky. The manager at the tyre fitters said they would refund the cost of the balancing ( i'd paid upfront via Blackcircles ), but of course that never happened.
  10. It won't get resurfaced until it falls apart but unfortunately 'thump-thump' PQ concrete pavement is extremely hard wearing, far more so than asphalt. I drive on the M20 daily and the PQ is still perfect after 33 years!!
  11. Should have left the gubbins attached. Get through traffic a whole lot quicker with the blue lights flashing.😁
  12. Do you get an opportunity to take a test drive before handing over your money?
  13. Everyone's at it!! Autoglass ads on the TV stating 'as little as £20' to fix a bullseye on a windscreen, without saying that that price relies on you having windscreen insurance. Otherwise £220!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for something that you can do yourself in 15mins for a tenner.
  14. That happened when I had a new belt, pump & idler fitted by an indy. Took about 3 weeks ( 1500 miles ) of top-ups to fully burp itself, no problems since. Suspect they didn't follow the correct procedure with the VCDS.
  15. Surprised that the S/S is linked to the distance/proximity sensors. My Superb isn't ( DSG ), neither was my previous Merc C200 manual. Re-activation of the Start is totally dependant on what my feet are doing to the pedals - brake or accelerator for the DSG or the clutch pedal for the manual.
  16. My previous car (Merc C200 tdi ) did this, albeit intermittently, but never when in the garage for servicing. No fault codes were ever stored and no warnings on the dash. Had it for 5 years from new and Mercedes could never diagnose or find a fix because it wouldn't happen when they had it.
  17. They really should employ a proof-reader.
  18. What's the weather like where you are? Mine did something similar yesterday when parallel parking and I put it down to the seriously hot weather we've been having for the last week or so and bone dry rubber suspension parts. I reckon after some rain it will go away.
  19. For what it's worth, my crank bearing seal is also leaking but at the other end. It was picked up during the last oil change. My mechanic says it's only slight at the moment so I'll deal with it when it finally goes back in for a new clutch pack.
  20. Sounds like the crank bearing seal could be leaking. Usual way to tell is by smell, gear oil is very distinctive ( and usually quite clean ) and always reminds me of Gin(?)
  21. Currently 240,000km and it drives as 'almost new' but not quite.
  22. I would suggest that you move the car 10m from the door first, Measure up to the centre of the headlight and then transfer that measurement to the door. This will allow for any change in level in the 10m between the car and the door.
  23. My local Esso near work have adblue on draught for the truck drivers. I used it in my previous car ( Mercedes C200 ). Assume it's the same stuff that's used in cars? Didn't seem to cause any problems and half the price of the bottled variety.
  24. The way I read the filler cap table is : Standard load 2.1/2.1bar Front/Rear. Eco 2.4/2.4bar Front/Rear. Heavy load 2.5bar Front / 3.2bar Rear. Hoping that is correct. I had mine inflated to ECO pressures for about a year but noticed that the centre track was wearing more quickly that the edges ( over-inflation ) so I now keep them on Standard pressures. Generally only me in the car with little or no extra load in the boot.
