  1. you still have the Consumer Rights Act 2015. It is not limited by warranty and you have up to 6 years to act. https://www.themotorombudsman.org/knowledge-base/what-is-the-consumer-rights-act
  2. I've been waiting on car prices to collapse for 10yr
  3. When I was in the showroom a few weeks ago I asked if they were busy. They were selling more than ever and even they thought the prices were stupid but no shortage of punters. the only prices I've seen drop are on formerly very expensive cars, Land Rover, Range rover, V8 BMWs, big diesels etc. Everything else is selling no problem.
  4. Ooh reminded me I have a bag of Palm Pilot and Palm 105 PDAs plus a few odd WM6 mobiles phones (pre iPhone days). I've dumped so much interesting kit over the years. My Mrs keeps trying to get me to get rid of my big box of cables, but no way, I know I'll need that sony propriatory micro USB to firewire adapter one day.
  5. Professional opinion I wouldn't touch anything made by Google if I can avoid it. It tracks and stores everything. TBH the apps they supply aren't very good either. My Mrs has awful problems getting GMail to behave itself. Might be a good time to explore the wonderful world of Linux. https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-laptop-and-netbook-25/best-linux-version-for-asus-eee-pc-r105-4175698521/ Linux needs a little bit of learning to start with but it's not as difficult as it used to be plus the best thing about Linux is - it does as it's bloody told. No wandering off to share your data or demanding you download an app or pushing ads on you.
  6. I've always thought that was a sweet spot to buy a car as well. I'd add they often put out fully loaded cars at that stage so get a well sorted, well priced and fully specced car. In theory.
  7. Bit sad, my Mazzer has been delayed. I'd agreed with the dealer that the would be inspected before handover and if discs/pads were under 50% they'd be changed. Dealer also offered to change oil. So brakes are getting renewed but they found a broken spring on the car and they are going to change the front pair. But Maserati springs are on back order, 2-4 weeks 😭
  8. We're about to move up to 4 cars in the household between the Mrs and myself. We've 2 occasional cars (>1000 miles a year on each) and 2 daily cars (>3000 a year on these) but we're pretty low mileage. 3 of the cars will be in my name. The 3 we have now are all on seperate policies. What is most efficient way to insure these vehicles without getting into knots on NCB etc?
  9. That one in Dundee might not be available any more 😜
  10. owner of the garage was pretty up front. He’s got an older GTS himself. Said he loves it but don’t expect Mid 90s VW reliable. However internet chatter is that they are better than their reputation. It’s coming with 12M aftermarket warranty that’s nothing like approved used warranty but it’ll cover the big stuff. I am quite childishly looking forward to being asked what i drive, it’ll be nice to say “Maserati” rather than BMW, Audi, Ford etc. It’s exotic (say with a Waynetta Slob voice).
  11. Might be a week or so till i pick it up
  12. Aaaand I’ve gone and bought a Maserati. 2016 Quattroporte diesel. Time will tell if this was a terrible mistake. But it’s a very pretty mistake
  13. Ah I had that Chieftec case in blue. I loved that case it was a total beast and really easy to work in. I'm sure I have a stack of P2 processors somewhere in my Dad's attic
  14. Ring is a data thief. Owned by amazon it transmits everything back there and they keep it. Numerous security issues as well - 2 second google - https://thehackernews.com/2022/08/new-amazon-ring-vulnerability-could.html
  15. Deffo prices softening on some cars although not exactly cheap. Seeing prices not looking as mental as they were on LR stuff recently (looks like I did shift mine at a good time). Lots of Ex-lease M5s hanging around. The Non-competition stuff is dropping now but not the comp models. Stuff further down the price range is still hanging in tight. I need to get something bigger before summer but there is very little around that still doesn't look very overpriced to me.
  16. BMW discount for cars over 3yr as well, or they did.
  17. BMW used to just go off the computer, I gave the counter guy a hard time when he said "Sir you car has 1500 braking miles left you should consider changing them (for whatever crazy dealer price)". When askd him what "braking miles" were he couldn't tell me and when I asked if they'd measured the pads and discs the answer was no. "Don't try that ****e on me" I think was my answer. I've never had it again, they've always measured. But I had had the inner wear report but it actually turned out to be true, although I had the brakes done at an indy anyway. Mini like to do the tick box for work as well to authorise. I think for dealers anything to do with brakes is a simple 'no, you're too expensive'. LR wanted £1100 to do the front brakes on mine. Had them done at a 4x4 specialist for £400 and he apologised for that. Conversely Mini wanted £600 to do the front brakes on the JCW, I was £550 at the indy. Again they apologised and actually showed my the trade price of the discs they were so shocked. But I guess no pattern parts for a JCW.
  18. I'll agree with olduns. It'll dead cat bounce. Car will start and as soon as the engine is turned off the battery will drop charge faster than a fast thing I'll agree with olduns. It'll dead cat bounce. Car will start and as soon as the engine is turned off the battery will drop charge faster than a fast thing. Doubly so if the owner is somewhere inconvienient. 19. Starting to see some movement now on expensive to run cars.
  20. There will be an outcry on this, as usual. They'll back down, as usual. And then it'll be sold as if it was a cut, as usual.
  21. Would they have known, maybe. Can you do anything? After 12yr nope. Plus if you've had 12yr of trouble free motoring then the repair has not materially affected the performance of the car so you don't really have any damages to claim for even if you could now. I understand that you do feel a bit pee'd off at the dealer though.
  22. My standard comment on this, If I can legally pour myself into the back of a self driving car drunk as a skunk and slur at it to take me home, then and only then, I'm interested. If the car drives but I'm responsible, then nope I don't want it. tbh I have a few unpleasent experienced with 'intelligent' cruise control to make me think that right now even that is a step too far.
  23. Nuts, bad enough I was £14k for a mint low mileage 2016 Jimny and going by Autotrader mine was cheap. The updated models were on the forecourt for £24k for a 2 seat van version.
  24. I've been through this with Mini, the used warranty can say (as mini's does) "battery is covered" no exclusions etc. When you ask a dealer.. "oh no it depends". If you're not happy tell them to put the old battery back in and take the car somewhere cheaper. If they've dumped the old battery before having an agreement to do the work then you will be having a different conversation with them.
  25. If they won't honor it and you genuinely think they are being devious about it then you can take them to the ombudsman. But you need to complete their own complaints/appeals process first, or at least attempt the process. I love how it says "stress free" when any insurance claim is incredibly stressfull normally. You should reference their own wording if you have to complain.
