Any coders that could lend a hand?
As I type this evening already If anything I think this was under reading and he was still gunning it as he passed me, still another 600m of 40mpg limit to go.

Any coders that could lend a hand?
To follow this up I have this working quite well now using this set of instructions. https://core-electronics.com.au/guides/detect-speed-raspberry-pi/ I did upgrade to a Pi 4b with more memory. It's taken some tweaking but it is producing pretty reliable results now. In contact with the community council initially to see what can be done with the data. One of our regular little neds - The red box is the detection area. The green box is the object detected. the green box doesn't always surround the car sometimes it picks up on a part, or lights for instance. the system doesn't detect cars as such, it detects moving objects and tracks the object through the detection area comparing frames. It has some known values taken from a reference calibration image which it useses to calculate the speed.

Help with payment methods on a Samsung phone
You'll need to load a CC into one of those systems and you should consider if you are comfortable with that. I'm not aware of any security leaks but I'm always uncomfortable at the level of intrusion these companies leverage through their services. that said I've given in and have a CC in my AppleWallet. And it has save my bacon a couple of times when I've forgotten a real wallet. Just make sure you've got autopayment turned off etc in any app stores. There should be an additional challenge to any payments.

Weird Audi A6
I had a painter in with a car in this style. Said that the car was not, registered, mot'd, taxed or insured. As long as you don't touch the system no one bothers you. Typically British, follow the rules and you get clobbered with the slightest infraction. Don't follow them at all and it's too much bother to catch you.

definitely got a few of them round here

Vehicles wot I have owned
Not done this one for a while (ownership order and sometimes having more than one at a time) 1989 Vauxhall Astra 1.3 Merit 1997 Vaxhall Astra 1.6 16v Arctic 2001 Ford Focus 1.9TD 2004 Renault Clio 1.5dCi (100hp) 1993 Kawasaki ZXR400 2007 Skoda Octavia VRS TFSI (and starting in these hallowed halls) 2010 Honda Accord 2.2d 2015 Mazda 3 2.2d 2016 BMW 335d 2013 Mini Clubman Cooper 2019 Mini Countryman JCW 2018 Ranger Rover Vogue V6d 2013 Mini Coupe JCW 2016 Suzuki Jimny 1.3 2016 Mazerati Quattroporte V6d The BMW 335d and the RR Vogue are probably the closest I've got to the perfect car to do everything. If the BMW was an estate with uprated M sport brakes I think it would have nailed it. I can see us going back to either of those cars in some way.

Any mini PC users? Geekom, Beelink, Minisforum, etc
I setup an AcePC mini PC for my son during lockdown. TBH it's run without a beat for about 4yr. Admittedly it is an underpowered celeron and I wouldn't want to use it evrey day but it's done the job for us and he still uses it for basic homework tasks. He's got an xbox for gaming. I think he'd probably be better of with a new Raspberry Pi, I think one of the newer models would do these basic tasks better and would probably be cheaper.

Emergency Autonomous Braking
Is it not standard fit on cars now? But only works below 20mph or something like that.
-
Brake failure at 90mph.
I'm a bit of a cynic over these stories tbh. They never seem to lead to a recall or safety notice which implies nothing found. I'm sure with older petrol driven similar incidents it was fairly normally to see the driver get nicked later. Why was the Jag doing 90mph? If the throttle was stuck or a connection left open why 90? Top speed it limited to 124 but assuming there is a fault why would the limiter apply? Cynic talking - guy got caught doing 90 and rather than take the 4 points he's blaming the car for a bit of publicity too.

Sturdy computer chair recommendations
I have just replaced a cheap amazon chair. The Amazon one did me really well for a good 5yr which wasn't bad for £35. But I work from home now and it wasn't up to 8hr a day on it. Still fine as a chair it's not broken. It was an Amazon Essentials, it's not available now or I'd send you a link. I invested in a used HumanScale Freedom chair which is £2k new hence going second hand.

Sturdy computer chair recommendations
Budget? I bought a used chair from these guys - https://corporatespec.com/ They have a lot of very high spec stuff which is discounted but still not cheap.

Brake replacement, how hard can it be?
You might have needed disks but the warped disks line sounds like BS. I have never ever owned or even heard of anyone I know having actual warped disks. A warped disk would usually indicate a problem with the brake caliper since that can twist the disk itself. Contaminated disks causing pulsing/judder, absolutely had that loads of times. Can be cured by driving like a loon on an empty road getting the disks really hot. Garages like to try to scare people into replacing pads by using all sorts of BS terms. BMW used to quote "braking miles", I've had percentage wear and all other sorts. They usually start to look very awkward when you ask "what's the measurement?", and they haven't measured. And franchise prices for brakes are criminal. When I had a Range Rover the dealer quoted £1100 for front disks and pads. Got it done at an indy for £400 and he apologised for it being so high.

Digital Switchover 2025 - End of Landlines just 2 years away
I’m a few years out of it now but the main solution was a digital bridge in the home allowing the old kit to be connected to the digital line. All usually had a multivendor cellular backup.

Car Park Fires, Transporters / Ships, any fires, any EV,s involved or not thread, were they the cause just there and so made fighting the fire harder.
I had a Fullfat Rangerover for those years and it was actually nearly compeltely reliable in that time. I had one warranty claim for a baggy leather seat and one repair which was a misaligned tailgate. That was apparently quite common as the motors are not always equal twisting the plastic panel. They wouldn't take a warranty claim on that. What was uncovered in routine servicing was that JLR at the factory had put the brakes pads in wrong. Two outers on one wheel and two inners on the other.

Mine was ok but maybe it was an oddity and I only had it a couple of years

I'd read (not substantiated and can't provide source) that the Range Rover was subject to a recall. I know there have been a few fire risk recalls over the years. I wonder if you failed to have a recall carried out on your car if you could be held liable if it did something like this.

ULEZ and other similar schemes we are being told are all about clean air for everybody but are they really just a means of making money from motorists?
IMHO any scheme to reduce or limit driving in the city centres without a corresponding increase in public transport spending in the same area is simply revenue raising. They also increase pressure on car sales which benefits some party donors.

Shocking news about Luton Airport carpark fire
One hopes that the car park owners will be refused their insurance claims for not following best practice. A few big losses might change attitudes where legislation hasn’t forced it. Or possibly the car owners insurers may go after the car park owner to recover losses.

Classic cars 80's/90's untaxed for over 20+ years then become SORN.
I thought you had to Sorn or they fined you for not telling them you don’t need tax. Catching people out was the whole point of sorn wasn’t it?
-
What would you have done?
Maybe I'm cyncial but there have been many stories of the years about runaway cars and most have either ended up as something stupid like accelerator stuck in the carpet, it's just gone quiet or the driver ends up in court. So for me, balance of probability is that the driver is at it for attention or a numpty.

Closing Amazon Prime account.
Yeah you'll keep access through your Amazon account but I doubt it'll be feasible to download these videos for offline use. They'll probably allow you to download through their app as long as you check in every so often online. You have to remember when you 'buy' a film or music online you are only buying a license to access it. You have no right to have a physical copy offline. With Music you can download to MP3 but I don't think the same facility exists in video.
