  1. So we'd kind-of dismissed this and were back to thinking that maybe a small derv would be the right thing for us. However I had a call booked with the Octopus EV person to go through the options etc. So mostly fluff but in the end got quoted on a VW ID3 (can't recall spec but can dig it up). Quote was £317 per month dalary sacrifice for 3yr at 12k a year. This included = maintenance, insurance, road tax, tyres at 20k or 2mm, free charger at home, and 6000mi energy credit. Deal also included discount rate with Octopus at 6p kWh overnight. The Clubman will use more than £400 a month in fuel. Plus it's an expensive bugger to run for everything else as well. It should sell for about £17k though. Seems almost too good to be true and I need to double check there isn't a £10k deposit or something.
  2. I think you're right, Party B. Plod have form for abusing CCTV themselves. Misuse of CCTV is normally unlawful as opposed to illegal so plod won't get involved and will leave it to the regulator the ICO. The ICO in turn are completely overwhelmed and are unlikely to investigate anything that isn't a very serious breach of the legislation. So really to some extent you can do what you like but pointing the camera at a neighbours bedroom IS illegal and plod will step in.
  3. Quite believable and Party A are completely within their rights in both cases.
  4. So data protection is one of my hats as well. the rules around CCTV are actually quite complex and you have to take into account case law and published government guidance as well, just reading the letter of the law is not the whole story. But...long story short. Just like the majority of the law don't take the p!ss and you'll be fine. Longer story... You are perfectly entitled to use CCTV on your premises but you should avoid that CCTV recording video across other peoples properties. Most CCTV systems include software to block out portions of your video feed to avoid that where physical positioning cannot complete the job properly. I do this on my own system. I've told the neightbours and offered to show them that I'm not recording their houses but tbh they don't care. Recording the street is generally considered to be ok, you actually do not have a right to not be recorded in the street but you do have the right to not have your image used for profit or business without consent. Street scenes are generally not considered to be recording individuals unless an individual is the subject of the video. Where that can get more complex is in a less busy street whre there may be a series of identifiable individuals walking past. Should you have a sign up that asys you are recording, technically yes. Although you are unlikely to be prosecuted in any way for not displaying a sign for a domestic system. A sigh is good thing for preventing crime anyway, tbh I recommend a sign even if you have no cctv. I'm considering a fake cameras in a few locations in addition to the real ones. So.. where you do record identifiable individuals (i.e. Ring doorbell) you technically become a Data Controller under UK-GDPR by doing that and you are required under law to process that data in a lawful manner. You could find youself subject to a legal demand for the CCTV footage you hold. Similarly should you think it funny to publish something on YouTube from your camera system you may be subject to legal action if you do this without consent. The police may also request then demand footage from your camera system for the purpose of investigation. Should your video feed been thought to be inappropriate i.e. you failed to stop your cameras recording the teenage daughters bedroom next door either by positioning the camera or by failing to use software option you may be subject to other legal action such as you being a stautory nusance or other anti-stalking legislation. Are you likely to have problems with your CCTV? If you don't take the p!55, no you are very unlikely to have an issue. But be aware that otehr people may have right to the data you are recording and a failure on your part to respond properly might cause you issues.
  5. It was their sub-contractor. But Openretch bear responsibility so I'm not letting them off by blaming the hired help.
  6. I would usually protest about work trying to put an app on my personal phone but I actually have the work MFA on my phone as I use MS Authenticator anyway. It's just another MFA. It's tied to the time on your phone rather than any secret sauce. If it's just the MFA app I wouldn't really have an issue. If they want to put a MDM (device manager) on your phone, avoid that, it can mess stuff up. I think you cna insist on getting a device but tbh that might be more of a pain for you in this case having to carry a second device. I'm a Cyber Security Consultant in my day job btw.
  7. Not to worry Openretch will manage to **** it up no matter what. Watch when they're drilling, I ended up having to lend them my drill bits to do mine. then the pulled the fiber out of the cabinet and into the conduit. Only found out after they'd cut my copper. Have the Easterbank locals been milling round the trucks like 28 days later? ;-)
  8. The Mrs is a bit of a badge snob, she loves her minis. I actually think the Enyaq is one of the less offensive cars. We need to do the sums I think.
  9. Ok 7p a kWh I didn't have the number to hand. What do I like, honestly, basically nothing. I very much do not like modern cars at all right now. The except would be the new Renault 5 but whether that functions as a usable vehicle would need testing. the majority of the rest I find pretty hideous. The few I've been in I found the interiors cheap and scratchy. Acceptable if you are in a basic car, not so acceptable in a £50k bmw. Mrs already going cold on the idea through the day, I think she thought it was a free car not £500 a month. An example of the current deal is a salary sacrifice Reanult 5, on at £350 a month (scottish taxes would actually make it a little cheaper) with 6000 miles charging rebate, free charger installation. 12k a year for 4 year, no deposit/up front payment thing they do with lease.
  10. No Polestar options, the Volvos are 500-1100 a month. If we were doing it would be way down the price range or we're as well to keep what we have and pay the petrol. Or we might just look for a 1.9td Polo 😁
  11. We're not paying at all for cars right now so it making the choice a bit harder. We keep what we have and only pay fuel service (JCW so parts are a bit eyewatering) or start to cough 300-500 for a lease car but have little to pay for fuel. JCW probably worth £16-17k on Motorway.
  12. Work had just released a new EV car scheme to us with some option that are even making me consider it. I've little interest in EVs tbh other than as potentially cheap transport so I have little knowledge of the cars or the tech these days. However we're getting offered salary sacrifice on EVs plus 4000 free chargin miles plus ev rates (it's with octopus so 5p kwh ev rate over night). Little 'un about to start school full time needing a daily commute of about 75mi a day total (cripes never noticed it was that much). Currently using some fairly petrol heavy cars so 32mpg ish. So couple of questions - any decent cost calculators online to see if it's worth it? I've looked at a few and they are terrible Need some direction re cars, looking for <40k, I guess about 200mi range (couple of days + spare), 5 seats that will take adults in the back, comfortable and not made of the same plastic that toys on kids magazines are made from. Octopus doesn't have all that many brands tbh. Not too bother about looks, it's a dishwasher on wheels after all.
  13. Dear lord that is lovely. Not my fav colour but the XK120 and XK150 (and D-type) are some of the prettiest cars ever made
  14. I looked at a Rubicon about 5yr ago, good fun but my word build quality was some of the worst I've ever seen
  15. I know of one local authority that has large diesel generators for backup, proudly filled with eco biodiesel. The guys forgot that biodiesel goes off, and turns to jelly. Fired up the gennies for a test, putt putt caputt. Thousands of pounds of rotten diesel had to be removed and the engines cleaned out.
  16. the data centres will have been fine, it's the network connectivity between them and the ATMs that will have gone down. Cellular base stations only have hours of capacity. The DLAMs in the street have a few hours maybe. But if the ATM relies on a local router it will have gone down.
  17. It's AI design, there you go keep prodding and eventually you get the same thing -
  18. After much arguing, I got the banana in. It was fixated on having a banana next to a 1960a Lotus or GT40 but after a few prods got this... With this I humbly suggest I'm better at designing cars than most manufactrers. I'd rather buy this one.
  19. I wonder where designers get all their ideas from... CoPilot draw me a childish picture of a car.... 10min with a free AI and I am a car designer Admittedly it refuses to include a banana for scale
  20. Aand just today
  21. Is it just me or does every new car now seem to have been designed in Minecraft? I used to be able to identify a car in seconds from a flash of one corner or a small part, now...nope I have no idea everything looks the same.
  22. Subaru XV? Bit more clearance than your average car and they generally don't use low profile tyres which smooths out the ride a bit. Will be a bit gutless compaired to a GTI. My MiL has a bad back and loves the ride quailty in my Scoob.
  23. If they meet the required standard then the cheaper fluid is likely to do everything you need. You just have trust it has me the standards. If you are buying from a reputable supplier then it's probably ok. If you're buying from Facebook your DOT4 brake fluit is probable made of jam or Bisto.
  24. Didn't get a pic but was passed the street by an AM [I think] DB11 or Vanquish. It was pretty, not old school AM pretty, but sounded like god gargling granite.
  25. How badly designed is the ****panzer if you cannot get it type approved but soemthing like this can be done easily https://tanks-alot.co.uk/product/diesel-sultan-cvrt-just-56-miles-sul191/
