Urgent - part number please
Before you point me there, I have checked the pinned parts thread and most of the links are dead, or do not answer my query. I need to get on ordering a second hand ABS pump for my 2005 1.9 TDI Octavia estate Mark 2 1Z5, mechanic is looking too but is away for a few days now and I have not got the part number off him. Online searches have pointed me to 1K0907379K... is that right? Happy to share VIN too if needed but someone else may know. Thanks. Looking forwards to responses.

Query over garage diagnosis for dash lights
Quick question - I started a thread a while ago about an ABS/ESP light coming on, and the ABS pump was diagnosed. The day before I took it to the garage for this to be looked at what is commonly known as the 'engine management light' also came on. Now the garage have checked this over and said this is linked to the ABS issue and not something separate. But Skoda refers to this as the exhaust system light. So could an issue with the ABS cause this light to come on as well? Or not? It isn't flashing, and there was no change in engine performance, still the same as ever...just three amber steady lights... ABS, ESP and the little engine image.

Aircon not pushing air
Good topic. I am also in the position of only getting any air blowing when in top speed (4 out of 4 in my car... like Radioactive Man's goggles, positions 1, 2 and 3 do nothing).

ABS warning light issue - module diagnosed
Apologies for the delayed reply! I took it to another garage and turns out... it was the ABS pump! So that's a gulf of about £1000 in repairs between the two garages.

Temporary "trembling" sensation when driving
A funny thing happened on the way to the motorway. After having already been driving for 20 minutes without issue (and indeed, in this car, for six years...) I reached the end of the M49 from Bristol -braking to a stop of course - and the roundabout that leads onto the M4 westbound, and on pulling onto the slip road by the new Severn Bridge, the car randomly started trembling (best way to describe it). It was very slightly jumpy, you know. It was the same in all gears and speeds. It still went without being noticeably underpowered, but obviously you wouldn't want to drive to Edinburgh or similar feeling like you were in a suspension free medieval waggon. I pulled onto the hard shoulder, lovely view, and restarted the engine - and the problem was gone. Hasn't been back, either, despite driving again in various conditions and speeds. This isn't a car that doesn't have its odd moments - some of which are documented on this site, which are seen once to never be seen again. If anyone thinks it might be at all related, I also have an open thread for an intermittent ABS light.

Intermittent seatbelt warning light/bell
I had this issue - "intermittent" eventually became "constant" and in the end I had the belt buckle unit replaced. It will be the driver seat unit at fault as there are no sensors on the others, because who wants a beeping constantly if the driver is alone in the car?

ABS warning light issue - module diagnosed
Hi all. For a few months the ABS warning light has been coming on intermittently; when not on, the ABS works. When on, doesn't etc. Thought it might be a sensor. Took it to a local, reputable garage today who didn't do any visual checks but scanned it and yielded:- 1.01276 ABS hydraulic pump - electrical fault in circuit I asked if sensors and wiring etc had been checked and was told no, as 'where do you start'. Only option was a new ABS computer module at £1300, which is more than the car value. Car by the way is 1.9 TDI Mark 2. So... is it effectively a slow write-off (seven months left on MOT) or is there hope?

Headlight removal
Yep brute force and lubrication is key. Now what was I talking about... Anyway the biggest bugger when removing the lights if you need to remove the whole unit is when the electrical connector will not shift from the socket.

Air bag warning light
The tape is directly over the light, behind the plastic screen - no examiner has ever mentioned it!
-
Air bag warning light
When I say blank, I mean the garage (rather than the owner) did what I said - - the airbag light on the dashboard has been blanked by a piece of black tape.

Air bag warning light
My car had an airbag warning light prior to my buying it. From what I can gather by weaving all the paperwork I inherited into a story, they eventually decided there was no issue, further exploration was too much work, and for seven or eight years the airbag light on the dashboard has been blanked by a piece of black tape!

Boot not opening
Cheers all - managed to fix it by putting some tape around the little plastic drum on the spring that pushes the latch, just to give it a tad more contact, and that did the trick. Veeeeeeeeery basic fix though!

Boot not opening
Morning all - issue in a nutshell, and advice please. Our boot won't open; the motor works and you can hear the release mechanism whirr when the press the button above the number plate, and if you look through the window you can see the little spring-loaded plastic drum move, but it doesn't seem to have enough 'oomph' to press the little release catch on the door itself. It's had this issue for years, but I've never got it looked at as after a week or so it has always resolved itself, and then been fine for another six months or so. But this time it seems to be stuck like it, though it will sometimes open if you push down on the door or pull slightly as you press the button. Last time it did this it seemed to work if you pressed the left hand-side of the release button, but not this time. Any ideas? Oh and it's a 2005 estate.

Clutch tick when depressed
All I can say is mine has done this for years and years, on and off. As you say when the clutch is depressed, there are five or six faint clicks or ticks. Never had it looked at and doesn't seem an issue!

"Buzzing" sound from fuel tank ? after turning the car off... ?
Could be the fan? That's the only sound I've ever heard after turning the engine off, if it was partway through DPF regeneration at the time.

Stupid question but... where is the radiator cap?
Thanks all. Wanted to bung in some coolant leak stopper which was only a fiver on Amazon but has worked a treat!
-
Increase oil level and fuel consumption
My first thought reading that was... is 450 miles from a tank generally considered a good starting point? I get disappointed if the fuel light comes on before 600 (depends on conditions etc!)

Stupid question but... where is the radiator cap?
Well bugger me. Thanks though!

Stupid question but... where is the radiator cap?
Never needed to know this before in five years of - stop laughing at the back - owning the car. But where is it? Google seems to think the coolant resevoir cap is the radiator cap but that can't be right. No manuals, engine bay diagrams or other places seem to be much more help. So... this is a 1.9 TDI mk2, where is the radiator cap?

Dash dimmed, dials dropped to zero on motorway.
I had some similar weirdness once, after pressure washing the car. It was fine the day after after drying but something was shorting.

145Mph for 20 seconds, have I ruined my engine?
That's what you call "driving like granny" if you've ever gone across Germany on an autobahn.

Has a handbrake cable snapped???
I had a snapped cable recently and this sounds like it. Had to almost rotate the handbrake back 180° before it felt like it would hold! Ratchets I didn't know existed.

cd stuck in radio (škoda octavia 2006) on original radio
No issues with the battery at all; it's a physical fault I think with the ejection mechanism rather than an electrical one. And it's still in there!
