Emergency Stop
If the cars being used had that safety feature, and it wasn't deactivated, then it should have worked in these tragic cases. I suspect either the car did not have the feature, the full throttle overpowered the brakes, or it was purposely deactivated. There can be an option in the menus to turn them off. Usually, they automatically reactivate when the car is restarted. Maybe in future AI enabled cars will identify and prevent this sort of thing. Telsa and others can identify people already.

Scala Tyre Pressures
Neither can I, which I why I thought that a slightly different rotation speed at higher motorway speeds may be the issue here

Scala Tyre Pressures
I understand that the tyre pressure system uses tyre rotation speed to determine if the pressure is wrong. If a wheel is rotating at a lower speed than the others then it can trigger the warning. So if the air pressure is correct in the tyre, could it be either: the new tyre is a different brand/model and its slightly different diameter to the others (newer tread depth)? You said it was similar, but not the same. the new tyre requires higher or lower air pressure that the other tyres to run normally? I have different Bridgestones on my Scala compared to the factory fitted model and the tyre shop said they prefer slightly higher 2.5bar - and I notice a difference if they get low. Perhaps run the new tyre and 2.5bar and see?

Scala - question before buying
I don't have that feature in my Scala. That would be annoying if it did. Is it not an option in the infotainment menu? I know there are the steering wheel controls to turn it off each time but some of the infotainment menu options can change things permanently.

Scala - question before buying
With the seat in my driving position it is 180cm right to the edge of the boot diagonally. So its tight. Depends on the seat position. If you had the front passenger seat forward a bit it should be fine. But the larger side of the 60/40 split is the drivers side (Right). I don't have a centre ski hole in the rear seats, it was an optional extra. I don't really see an issue with the seat safety, but its your call with how you feel about it.

Scala - question before buying
Yes, they are the same seats. We've not seen it as a problem at all, but if you want peace of mind then see if you can find a car with them and try it out.

Scala - question before buying
Hi I have a 2020 Scala with sports seats, full glass back and 1.5DSG. I've had it since new and done 77,000kms 1.) I do plan on having car for a long time. Are spare parts expensive/cheap? - I've not had to replace any parts here and still under 5 a year warranty, but suspect they are similar to any other VW parts 2.) I tested Scala with a manual transmission, but will be buying 1.5 gasoline 150hp DSG. Is it smooth, does it work/shift well? - Yes, no complaints really. Works great in sports mode. 3.) I am thinking about buying the version with spoiler and extended glass on the rear hatch door. However, is it more likely to get damaged in case of somebody rear-eding my car? Or does it not make big difference with regular one? - Looks much better and no damage to date. No issues with it. The tinted glass helps cut out heat. 4.) What is fuel consumption at speeds of 160-170kph? I travel a lot through Germany and i love Autobahn without speed limit. Would you guys (and girls) say that the car is fuel efficient (if driven by speed limits outside of germany?) - Long term average since new is 5.7L/100km . On motorway/open road driving I can get as low as 4.5L/100kms. I have a mix of motorway, peak hour traffic, all sorts. 5.) Would you consider this a good car for someone who drives at least 20-25 thousands kilometers per year? - We do about 22,000 per year (the car sat unused for some time over Covid lockdowns soon after we got it!) . No complaints at all. Power is good in such a light car - overtakes well and quick off the mark. Sure, every car maintence is gonna cost a lot after 200.000km, but do you guys think Scala can make it up to 300.000km, with proper care and regular maintence? - So far 77,000km and no faults at all. The engine is fairly common across Volkswagon family, so best see the DSG and 1.5TSI are like in general across the ranges. 6.) Is there anything you really love/hate about this car? - Good family car for 4 of us and small enough to park easily. Good size boot and legroom 7 Sports seats - We have the sports seats. Im 180cm, my wife is 158, so same as you basically. Neither of us have any issue and I really like them. Hope that helps.

Handbrake sticks on and then clunks free when you set off
I've had this occasionally. Usually after I've washed the car and the discs have been wet, then dry out. They get a bit sticky perhaps. Its not the first car I've had this happen with. I've done 44k miles and there has not been any problem with brake performance and no concerns with the annual test and servicing.

Throttle response
You cannot change the default normal mode to do this. However I find if you are in normal mode and need to extra response just tap the gear lever (7speed dsg) backward when in drive and it will put the car in sport mode immediately. Much easier than pressing the buttons Tap it backward again and it returns to normal mode. It does it in eco mode too.

Electrics Gone Haywire.
I've had some similar issues with my 2020 Scala over the last few months. EPC light on (clears after restarting the engine), Start/Stop auto-disabling for whole journeys and sometimes the infotainment doesn't turn on (black screen) and I have to press and hold the power button on it to restart it. The car seems fine and no limp mode or protection mode issues. Just these random things occasionally. I thought maybe the battery power is starting to drop with age (I understand start/stop systems work batteries quite hard). Next service I'll ask them to check the error codes for anything.

Reversing Icon
Yes it's auto breaking if it thinks you are about to hit something. Its done it to me several times and can miss read the object. You can't turn off the rear one as far as I can see in my car.

SCALA 1.0 versus 1.5 petrol engine for rural driving
I have the 1.5 and also driven the 1.0 a few times. For Rural driving the 1.5 definitely has more power and easily gets up steeper hills and has confidence in overtaking. The 1.0 feels like it needs more effort under load or at speed . At slower speeds and around town, it's had to tell them apart. Both are quick off the mark once you learn the nuances of the engine. For longer trips and rural driving I'd go for the 1.5. The economy is superb, especially when cruising and the ACM mode enables (it is completely unnoticeable except for the dash indicator - no issues with it at all)

1.5 TSI engine and real-world fuel consumption?
For congested urban only driving and if you are a bit heavy-footed then it could be about right. Having a manual might be worse too if you keep it in lower gears more often, as the 7 speed DSG might be more efficient for stop start, slow speed conditions perhaps. I have 1.5 dsg and I do mixed driving and the long term average is 5.4L. I see closer to 7l when the traffic is more stop-start.

STOP / START
What happens if you don't use the dashcam at all? Does the problem go away? If so it could be a fault in the power cable of the dashcam causing the system to glitch. What about if you connect something else to the 12v instead - eg a 12v-USB plug and charge your phone on it. Does the problem happen still? If yes, then it could be a problem with the socket. If not, the try the Dashcam connected via USB cable to that plug to prove a faulty power supply to the dashcam (or the dashcam itself is at fault). It sounds like where you are the rear 12v socket is not standard, but are the rear USB or Front USB sockets there and could be tried too? You'd need a suitable cable to connect USB-Dashcam, but the are cheap and worth a try.

Scala,front tyre wear.
Sounds like the pressure is too low with that wear. I have 1.5 TSI DSG, 25000kms done and it's still got at least 10000kms left in the Bridgestone 17inch rubber.

Škoda Scala couple of questions
I wouldn't get it just for the satnav - Google is better and free. I constantly use the Android Auto and like it, especially with spotify incorporated to it. Other people I know who have it enjoy playing their virtual display for a while, then it just ends up on a 'default' mode displaying what a normal analogue dashboard does. the novelty wears off perhaps.

Scala.. should I buy one?
Im am the same size as you and I have had the standard seats on loan Scala's, including one took overnight as a "try before you buy". I found no issue with them over about 150Kms of mixed city driving. The one I purchased has sports seats however and I find them excellent. I've done 22000KMs so far including several longer journeys on B roads and they are very supportive and comfortable.

My Scala configuration, comments please
Its interesting to see the different markets - here in New Zealand the glass tailgate, sports seats and sports steering wheel, rear sensors and reversing camera are all standard, on a 1.5 TSI DSG for what exchanges to be list £18000 (or £20000 if full LED and climate control added). Standard 5 Year warranty and 3 year servicing too. Although we never pay list price and always get discount. Australia does the fully spec'd version with everything in it for about £20000 The deals down under seem quite good relative to UK

windshield wipers
I had issues with the factory wipers, and even had them replaced and still issues. I ended up getting quality 3rd party ones and they work much better. They are standard aeroflex 26 and 18 blade system that VW use

My Scala configuration, comments please
The LED lights are considerably better than standard, so a worthwhile addition, especially if you do a lot of night driving on poorly lit roads. If I was to pick anything on the list to drop, it would be the variable floor (unless you do lots of load carries), Lattice insert and front sensors ( I can see the front of the car...) I got the decorative door sill covers, rubber mats all round (including reversible boot mat) and cargo netting for free from the dealer at purchase so surely your dealers there can do free accessories as least as part of the deal too

Rattle from front wheels
I do get a creaking sound sometimes from what feels to be the suspension, when I go over a bump at low speed - usually speed bumps. It seems very similar to your video. I don't know why it happens either and it does not happen very often. I have not done anything about it and just live with it. I'd be interested if there are any ideas/fixes/suggestions though too.

Real world mpg for the 1.5 engine?
My Scala is the 150 1.5l with ACM and also the sport modes (Eco/Normal/Sport). The modes maybe make only 1-2L/100 difference, but the performance change is noticable in Sport. I've also driven the 1.0L version several times as a loan car and I found it to be not any better in economy or even worse. Maybe you need to drive it a little harder or because it misses the ACM (the 2 cylinder ACM is active quite a lot and it must save a fair bit). It could also be because it is a loan car.... I feel the 1.5 TSI 150 is great, even if the engine sound isn't quite as fun as the 3 cylinder 1.0.

Front seats - comfortable?
I have the sports seats - and these are the best seats I've had in any car. Manual adjustment which is fine but they really hug you and you can get a good position and lumbar adjustment.
